Chapter 35: Zombie Bird Attack

Well, not completely collapse.

Some people turned around and fled in terror the instant they got close.

Others screamed wildly while attacking, swinging their weapons around randomly and accidentally beating their own teammates instead.

"???"

Joo Joowon widened his eyes in disbelief as he watched a chaotic group of people scatter in every direction.

Some acted as "human shields" while screaming loudly despite having combat power worth practically nothing.

Others remained frozen in place, not running yet also not attacking, as though their mentality had completely shattered while they cursed loudly at the top of their lungs.

Meanwhile, their screaming attracted all the nearby zombies that had originally not noticed them at all, causing the situation to spiral into complete disaster.

Because the two fastest runners reacted quickly enough once things went bad, they managed to avoid being surrounded by zombies.

It looked like they were about to successfully escape back into the apartment building.

However, at that exact moment, a zombie bird noticeably larger than the others suddenly swooped over while leading a flock of zombie birds behind it, instantly surrounding the escaping survivors.

No matter how thick a person’s clothes were, clothing was still clothing, not armor.

The zombie birds pecked with their beaks and clawed viciously with their talons, tearing the fabric apart piece by piece.

Very quickly, the people collapsed onto the ground, allowing the zombie birds to feast on them happily.

Some of the fallen survivors were infected by the zombie virus quickly enough to avoid being completely eaten alive.

Instead, they rose shakily back to their feet as mutilated zombies missing chunks of flesh and limbs.

Watching this scene, Joo Joowon honestly felt the urge to give them an "applause" for their performance.

Were these people deliberately trying to make life harder for the surviving humans?

Where the hell had this group of morons even come from?

Having more people did not mean charging in recklessly like brainless fools.

Shouldn’t they first choose easier targets to build confidence as a team?

Shouldn’t they first assign responsibilities and roles to each member beforehand?

What were they doing down there, performing clown acts?

With enough manpower to gather this many people together, why not clear their apartment floors first and obtain more equipment before going outside?

Seriously, what exactly were they thinking?

The opening of the marketplace would inevitably encourage some people who originally planned to hide at home to finally begin hunting zombies.

However, compared to acting alone, most people naturally preferred the sense of security brought by forming groups.

That trend was unavoidable.

But if the group only formed temporarily after the apocalypse and everyone were originally strangers, then nobody would know each other well enough to have trust or teamwork.

Shouldn’t they first choose easier enemies to familiarize themselves with each other’s abilities?

At the very least, if they discovered unreliable teammates, they could immediately disband without getting themselves killed.

Joo Joowon genuinely had not expected anyone to recklessly rush outside like this.

In his eyes, anyone daring to leave home at a time like this should at least possess some confidence backed by actual ability.

Instead, what these people possessed was not strength.

It was blind confidence.

Honestly, having an empty brain was not the issue.

The problem was when the only thing inside was air.

Just by observing their behavior, Joo Joowon could immediately tell this was their first time fighting zombies.

Otherwise, they would never perform such unbelievably ridiculous actions.

No matter how much mental preparation someone did beforehand, the instant they actually saw a zombie face to face, fear could still completely overwhelm their mind.

Only after repeated encounters could ordinary people gradually learn how to properly kill zombies without making fatal mistakes.

The reason Joo Joowon managed to perform relatively well during his own first encounter was not because he possessed extraordinary talent.

Rather, before this, he had once nearly been deceived by a fellow countryman into being trafficked overseas for work.

He had even reached the border area back then.

Because of that experience, he had already witnessed scenes far more disgusting than killing zombies.

At the very least, he already possessed psychological preparation for situations like this.

Joo Joowon carefully memorized several locations where the zombies had emerged from, making sure to avoid being ambushed unexpectedly in the future.

He did not know whether zombies possessed territorial instincts toward one another.

However, one thing was certain.

They clearly disliked sunlight.

Aside from several corpses that had already been eaten clean, the infected survivors who transformed into zombies all silently wandered into areas untouched by direct sunlight.

Rather than fearing light itself, it felt more like simple disgust.

Similar to how many nocturnal creatures naturally disliked moving around during daytime.

Looking at the bodies that had been completely devoured, Joo Joowon could not help feeling a headache coming on.

Many residents in Star Hill Residental Complex commuted to work either by subway, bus, or motorcycle.

Quite a few people even worked part time as food delivery riders after finishing their normal jobs.

Because of that, motorcycle helmets were extremely common throughout the complex.

Every person who went outside today had worn helmets.

Now that they had transformed into zombies, obviously they would never think about removing the helmets from their heads themselves.

Although this might negatively affect the zombies’ senses somewhat, it was certainly not good news for players either.

After all, helmets protected human weak points.

But they also protected zombie weak points.

Now zombies could charge recklessly at players without fear while trying to trade one life for another.

Yet how were players supposed to kill them?

Players still needed to protect themselves from infection.

They absolutely could not afford direct head on exchanges against zombies.

Although Joo Joowon really wanted to curse those idiots out, the group had at least shown him the hidden dangers waiting outside.

Even though the apocalypse began in the middle of the night, causing most of the zombies inside the apartment complex to remain trapped indoors, dangerous creatures like zombie birds still existed outside.
