Chapter 34: A Group of Fools
"Meow~"
Byeol lifted its head and licked Joo Joowon’s chin.
Most animals possessed an unusually sharp sensitivity toward human emotions, and Byeol naturally sensed Joo Joowon’s current mood as well.
The emotions radiating from him made the cat feel somewhat uncertain and uneasy too.
It had only cried casually.
Could there really have been poison inside the cat treat?
Joo Joowon reached out and scratched beneath Byeol’s chin.
He hesitated over whether he should feed it a painkiller pill, yet also worried that introducing medicine into Byeol’s body might instead interfere with the cat’s own immune response.
Besides, Byeol did not appear to be suffering unbearably.
If a cat was truly in severe pain, the signs were usually obvious.
Just looking at Scottish Fold cats during flare ups was enough to understand.
Most of them would cry out the moment someone touched them, and they especially disliked anyone touching painful areas on their body.
Yet Joo Joowon had practically stroked every inch of Byeol just now, and the cat had shown no signs of resistance at all.
In fact, after being petted for a while, it had even started purring.
Joo Joowon waited for nearly half an hour.
After confirming that nothing seemed wrong with Byeol, he finally let out a relieved sigh.
Although he had made many preparations before feeding Byeol, accidents could always happen.
Seeing that everything had gone smoothly naturally eased his worries considerably.
He lifted Byeol up and examined it carefully, but Joo Joowon could not notice any changes in the cat’s body size.
"Byeol, do you feel any stronger?"
"Meow?"
Byeol stared at Joo Joowon with innocent cat eyes, completely unable to understand why it had suddenly been picked up while sleeping peacefully.
Joo Joowon did not really expect an answer anyway.
He placed the cat back onto the floor before changing clothes and preparing to head outside again to continue hunting zombies.
The moment Byeol saw him putting on that outfit carrying an overly complicated mix of smells, its ears instinctively flattened downward.
Its first reaction was to immediately find a place to hide.
However, after hesitating briefly, it still squatted down helplessly where it stood.
Joo Joowon had been bringing it outside frequently enough that Byeol had already accepted the reality that its human servant could no longer support the two of them alone anymore.
Seeing Byeol acting this "well behaved" actually surprised Joo Joowon somewhat.
He found a pet vest and carefully dressed Byeol in it over the Beginner Equipment shirt the cat was already wearing, preventing the already damaged beginner gear from deteriorating further.
However, he also did not dare dress the cat too heavily in case it affected Byeol’s agility.
When Joo Joowon obtained the second Beginner Shirt, he had already considered letting Byeol wear it as well.
Unfortunately, perhaps because it was beginner equipment, it could not automatically adapt itself to different people.
Joo Joowon himself had never noticed this issue before because equipment dropped in card form.
Once he took the equipment out, it automatically transformed into a size suitable for him.
However, this adjustment only happened once.
After the card was used, the equipment’s size became permanently fixed and could no longer change according to the wearer’s body shape.
Fortunately, after the clothing had been sliced full of holes and damaged badly, it finally gave Joo Joowon some room for modifications.
As a beautiful white cat with heterochromatic eyes, Byeol had often been forced by Joo Joowon to wear various outfits and accessories in the past.
Because of that, the cat did not feel especially uncomfortable from the restraint of wearing clothes now.
After all, it was already used to it.
The two floors below had already been completely cleared out, so Joo Joowon cautiously brought Byeol down to the eighth floor.
Joo Joowon lived on the eleventh floor.
If he wanted to eventually leave the apartment complex, he would at minimum need to clear out all the floors beneath him first.
Because the game had descended at midnight, looking outside through the windows gave the illusion that the area was completely empty, as though no zombies existed at all.
Of course, having absolutely none was impossible.
At most, there were simply fewer of them.
Besides, zombies were capable of moving around.
He could not allow them opportunities to gather together in large groups.
There were no zombies wandering the eighth floor hallway either.
Following his usual routine, Joo Joowon started knocking on the apartment directly facing the staircase first.
"ROAR!"
Hearing the zombie’s enthusiastic greeting immediately lifted Joo Joowon’s spirits.
He only needed four more experience points to level up.
At moments like this, he practically wished every room contained zombies.
There was only one zombie inside this apartment.
Judging from the setup, the resident seemed to have worked in self media creation, because the second bedroom had been arranged as a filming studio.
Joo Joowon did not pay much attention to it.
His only goal this afternoon was leveling up, so he could not even be bothered collecting supplies right now.
He directly reinstalled the peephole onto the apartment door before shutting it and finding a place to sit down and recover his stamina.
The money drop rate from Level 1 zombies was outrageously low.
Joo Joowon was already close to reaching Level 3 and had killed who knew how many zombies already, yet he still possessed only nine copper coins.
Even the equipment drop rate was higher than the coin drop rate.
After resting for several minutes, Joo Joowon suddenly heard several miserable screams coming from downstairs.
He froze briefly before quickly walking to the window and looking downward.
Several people wearing motorcycle helmets and thick clothing were currently fighting against zombies below.
No, calling it a "fight" was honestly giving them too much credit.
It would be more accurate to say they were personally delivering takeout meals to the zombies.
The moment these people came into contact with the zombies, they immediately seemed to mentally collapse.
