Chapter 2: Fire Axe

The noises outside had clearly frightened it.

If Joo Joowon had not been holding it, it would have immediately gone back under the bed to hide.

Joo Joowon sighed and finally made up his mind.

As an orphan, Joo Joowon had no attachments or burdens.

He had once not cared much about his own life or death.

But ever since there was another mouth to feed at home, he had somehow naturally learned how to take care of a household.

Now, he was willing to risk himself for it.

To him, the little cat was not just a pet anymore, but an irreplaceable member of his family.

Joo Joowon immediately ran into the kitchen and started searching.

He found a kitchen knife and a fruit knife, both small and delicate in design.

He never cooked complicated meals.

He always bought pre cut ingredients directly from the market stall owners, so there was naturally no collection of specialized kitchen knives at home.

A knife used for chopping ribs might even break in half.

Taking such a knife to fight zombies would be no different from sending himself to his death.

After searching around the house for a while, Joo Joowon picked up a mop and fell into deep thought.

Based on his experience reading apocalypse novels, maybe tying a kitchen knife to a mop handle could work as a weapon.

But the problem was that if it was not tied tightly, it would definitely fail at a critical moment.

However, the only knot he knew how to tie was wrapping it around and making a butterfly bow.

There was no way he could trust that kind of knot in a life or death situation.

Using the mop handle directly as a staff was also not a good idea.

His strength was only four points.

As an office worker, Joo Joowon was very aware of his own limits.

He was part of the sub healthy population.

The only attribute that was slightly above average, his agility, was probably trained from daily commuting in life or death rush hours.

After hesitating for a moment, Joo Joowon gave up the idea of finding weapons at home and started thinking about whether there were any usable weapons nearby.

A moment later, his eyes lit up.

A fire axe!

Because of a fire two years ago, the landlord had later installed fire safety measures on every floor and the residents were no longer allowed to randomly pile things up in the corridors.

Thinking of this, Joo Joowon rummaged through the wardrobe, putting on a thick sweater, a vest, and a padded coat.

He put on a helmet and also wore gloves and wrapped two layers of scarves around his neck.

Only then did he carefully walk toward the door.

Although this outfit made him look bulky, it did increase his defense a little.

At least it would provide some cushioning if he got bitten by a zombie.

"Oh right, I almost forgot!"

Just as he was about to open the door, Joo Joowon stepped back again and took out a metal L shaped tool from the shoe cabinet in the living room.

It was a lock picking tool.

One end was a retractable handle and the other end had a port with two slots.

For the kind of anti theft doors installed by landlords, as long as they were not double locked, inserting this tool through the peephole could open the door within a minute.

After forgetting his keys a few times and watching a locksmith easily open the door while charging him eighty yuan, Joo Joowon had bought this tool and hidden it in the ceiling outside the door.

However, after buying it, he never forgot his keys again even once, to the point that he almost forgot he even owned this tool.

Without this tool, even if he wanted to go out and kill zombies, he probably would not even know where to start.

After all, who would not be at home sleeping in the middle of the night?

And he did not dare go outside the residential complex either.

"Meow~ Meow~"

Seeing Joo Joowon dressed strangely in the middle of the night preparing to go out, the little cat crawled over close to the ground.

Joo Joowon reached out and stroked it.

"Be good. Don’t be scared. Wait for me at home."

After speaking, Joo Joowon carefully opened the door a crack.

If he discovered zombies outside, he would immediately close it again.

As the door opened, the motion activated light immediately turned on.

Joo Joowon poked his head out and looked left and right, then carefully stepped outside holding the lock picking tool and the kitchen knife and mop handle that had been tied together.

Although he did not really trust the kitchen knife, Joo Joowon was not foolish enough to go out without any weapon.

After quietly closing the door, he then went to retrieve the fire axe.

The building he lived in had seven households per floor.

Joo Joowon walked with the fire axe to the innermost unit.

He did not rush to make any noise.

Instead, he first gripped the fire axe with both hands and swung it once, testing it and checking his stance.

Only then did he knock on the door and ask in a voice that was not loud but still clearly audible from inside.

"Is anyone there?"

"Growl!"

The zombie neighbor enthusiastically greeted Joo Joowon and at the same time, shouting could be heard from the apartment next door.

Joo Joowon instantly darted back to the doorway of his own unit, ready at any moment to kick off the blocking slipper and slip back inside.

The zombies were making a huge amount of noise.

Before long, banging sounds also came from another direction.

Out of the seven units on this floor, four of them had already started making noise.

Fortunately, the anti theft doors were not made of paper.

They had not broken as a result.
