Chapter 354: BURIED
The funeral for the dead twins was arranged privately that same day, whereby only Robert, John, and a handful of John’s men were allowed to be a part of it at the cemetery.
Getting back, Robert walked into Emma’s room since he felt he’d been away from her for too long already and found Emma sitting up on the bed, staring into blank space.
"Emma!" He screamed her name in joy, ran towards her, and wrapped his arms around her. "I thought it would take you a—"
He didn’t get to finish talking when he suddenly felt his body being pushed away. Stunned, he stared at the distance in front of them before his gaze landed on Emma who glared at him with tear-filled eyes.
"Don’t touch me," she said ever so lightly that Robert wouldn’t have heard what she was saying if he hadn’t read her lips. "Stay away from me and don’t you ever come close to me again," she added.
Even more stunned, Robert felt his body frozen up and he couldn’t move his feet away from where he was standing like a statue. Those were the same words that she’d uttered earlier, before she passed out and he thought she probably thinks it was the hands of those men who raped her that were still touching her.
’Was that the only thing she could see now?’ he wondered.
"Why are you pushing me away like this?" He asked, still confused by her action but she didn’t give him a reply but continued to stare at him. He was her husband so what was wrong if he touched her?
Robert had to take a deep breath before he decided to take a step towards her but she ended up crawling further away from him, heading towards the pillow that was placed at the head of the bed.
"I said you should stay away from me!" She yelled at him and Robert had to halt his steps. He didn’t want her to think she was in danger just because he was in her presence. Darting her eyes around the unfamiliar room, she suddenly recalled something. "Where are my babies?" She questioned.
Robert sighed before he replied, "They’ve been buried."
Emma stared at him for a few seconds before her stare turned intense, scaring him a bit.
"You buried my children without letting me know first?"
He could see her clench her fist on the sheet of the bed and now, he suddenly wondered if he made the right decision.
"I didn’t want you to hurt anymore, that’s why I buried them without waiting for you to wake up. You are in pain Emma, I don’t want to see you in any more pain." He tried to make her understand.
"You watched me be RAPED and you couldn’t do anything about it!" She yelled out loud, taking Robert by surprise. "You just sat there and watched six men rape me, Robert. I’ve lost my unborn baby and my twins as well. What other pain do you think will be able to surpass that? Watching my children getting buried? Seeing them getting killed in my presence is hurtful already."
Without caring about her words about him not coming closer to her or touching her, Robert ended up doing the opposite. As soon as he was close enough, he wrapped his arms around her, taking her by surprise and she started to struggle.
"I’m sorry. I’m sorry for being a coward. I’m sorry for being worthless. I’m sorry for not being able to protect you and our kids," he apologized nonstop as Emma still struggled to get away from him as he held her tightly but not tight enough to suffocate her.
"Let me go," she cried. Left with no other option, she bit him on his hand, expecting him to release his hands from her body but unfortunately, he didn’t. He endured the bite.
"Let out all your frustrations on me. I will take it all," said Robert.
"Where are they?" Emma asked, wanting to get away from him as fast as possible but also wanting to know where the twins had been buried.
Slowly, Robert released his grip from her body and held out his hand for her to take but she pretended she didn’t see it and stepped down from the bed herself.
Sighing, Robert went the other way to help her with her IV drop before they stepped out of the room.
The more they passed some parts of the house, the more Emma found everything to be even more unfamiliar but knowing where her kids had been buried was more important at the moment.
John had lent Robert a car to drive around but he had to bring a few men along with him for safety purposes. When Emma noticed how uncomfortable she was having unfamiliar men sitting beside her, he instructed them to kindly go with the other car which they obliged without much trouble.
Arriving at the cemetery, Robert tried to assist Emma in stepping down from the car but she still ignored his helping hand.
Sighing again, he led her to where two tombs had been newly cremated.
At the sight of their names, Emma started tearing up again as she touched their Stonehenge.
The scene was the most painful that Robert had ever seen. He refused to cry with her because if he did, who would be the one to wipe away their tears?
When he noticed that they’d spent way too much time at the cemetery, Robert tried to drag Emma away but she struggled.
"Leave me here. I’m not going back with you, I will stay here with my children," she said, swatting Robert’s hands away.
"We can’t stay here, it’s way too dangerous. We need to leave now," he tried to make her understand. Finding her caressing the Stonehenge, he realized she wasn’t listening to him. Picking her up from the ground against her will, he walked towards the car and put her in her seat.
"Let me go," she shouted when he closed the door. Before she could open the door to escape again, he’d already locked it.
