Chapter 348: CAT CAUGHT YOUR TONGUE

The next day arrived and Robert with Emma were all packed up again for their journey.

They stood in front of Beatrice and appreciated all that she’d done for them and the old lady smiled before telling them to be careful.

As soon as Emma heard that word, her worries started to resurface. Even though Robert had told her several times to not worry, she still couldn’t help but be.

After thanking Beatrice, they started heading out of the house.

"Are you sure that we will be able to make it to the train station without being stopped?" Emma asked, looking around the empty street but couldn’t find a single soul. If it wasn’t for the street lights, the whole place would have been as dark as night. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Instead of waiting for 6 am, Robert had decided to go earlier since Emma was so worried that they would be caught. He didn’t know the exact time that Francis would start looking for him especially since he found him around that same area.

"We won’t be caught. All we just have to do is leave a lookout for any moving vehicle and hide until they pass," said Robert. He looked down at Levi and Oliver whose excitement was over the top.

When he’d disclosed the news about them leaving Boston, he thought that they would be told about it but surprisingly, they were happy and eager to leave.

Without any words said, they continued their walk, taking turn after turn but not before waiting until they heard anyone speak even though at that time, people would be asleep but criminals don’t sleep.

Suddenly, they heard the engines of a car and they paused their steps immediately.

They had come out of the secluded area and were now in the middle of the road, where there were no houses or any trees to hide in.

Emma’s heartbeat quickened as fear gripped her tightly.

He pulled her hand while she grabbed Levi’s arm who grabbed Oliver’s.

They crossed the road, heading for the part where the street light didn’t flash across. Thankfully, they wore black clothes so they blended perfectly as they held their breath and did not dare make a move.

The twins understood from their parents’ movement that something was wrong so they copied their actions also.

This time, Francis didn’t go with a truck, he drove a small car but even though it was small, Robert could see Francis’ men seated in the back seats.

"Don’t make a sound," he whispered to them and all three nodded obediently. The car parked beside a street light and after a while, it started to move again.

Levi and his brother stared at the cat with questions on the tip of each of their tongues. As he watched the car drive away, he noticed something moving in the corners of his eyes.

Curiously, he turned to look at it and found a green snake, slithering towards them as its tongue peeked out of its mouth.

Extreme fear gripped him as he saw the snake getting closer to him. He tapped on Emma’s hand but her eyes were busy tailing the car which was on sight. As the snake continued to get closer and closer to them, the little boy’s heart continued to beat faster every second.

"Snake!!" He screamed as loud as he could before moving away from where they hid. Robert saw the snake and threw it away before it could bite either of them.

His scream did not only get the attention of his parents, but it also got the attention of the people his parents were trying to hide from.

The car stopped moving and they could all hear Francis’ voice as he questioned,

"Where did that sound come from?"

"It seemed to have come from that side," one of his men replied, pointing at where they’d just passed a moment ago.

When Robert saw that the car was getting turned and would soon be heading in their direction, they grabbed their hands and all of them started to run away from there.

"Boss, it’s Robert!" Another one screamed Robert’s name as Francis started heading in their direction at maximum speed.

"Kill him," Francis ordered, pulling out his gun and giving it to the one who screamed Robert’s name. The latter gladly took the gun and aimed it at Robert.

The bullet was shot but he missed.

Robert tried to run faster but the kids were not as fast as him so he had to carry one of them while Emma carried the other as they ran. Another bullet was shot and this time, the one holding the gun made sure he didn’t miss.

The bullet flew until it hit Robert in the back and he fell to the ground. Luckily, the bullet wasn’t able to touch Levi and Robert was glad about it.

Emma pulled Levi away from Robert and she tried to make the bleeding stop.

You have to go now," he said, trying to push her off. Digging his hand into his pocket, he brought out some papers and handed them over to her then gave her his phone as well. "Call the number on the paper once you reach the train station. GO NOW!!" He screamed at her when she wasn’t moving but continued to cry.

Emma pulled the kids with her and continued to run before they could catch up to her.

Robert sighed, looking up at the dark sky above when he heard the car pull up beside him and the laughter from Francis echoed in his ears.

"Well well well, I thought you would still run. What happened?" Francis asked with a grin on his face which Robert couldn’t see since he wasn’t paying attention to his words. His mind was on where Emma was heading and he could only hope that she wouldn’t be caught by those brutal people.

"What happened, hey? Cat caught your tongue all of a sudden?" Francis started to turn irritated when Robert wasn’t replying to him.
