Chapter 347: IDLE

Robert tried as much as possible to muffle his cries of pain so that he wouldn’t scare the boys upstairs while Emma grimaced as tears continued to flow down from her eyes at the sight of the blood.

Beatrice dug her finger into the cut and brought out the bullet before throwing it into the bowl. Then, she started cleaning the injury and instructed Emma,

"Go into my room, you will see a cupboard beside my bed. Open it and you will find a first aid kit inside."

Emma had to process everything for a second before she ran inside Beatrice’s room and came back with the first aid kit. Beatrice took it and started bandaging Robert’s gunshot wound.

"You are never leaving this house again even after you recover, do you hear me?" Emma repeated what she’d said earlier just in case Robert didn’t hear her the first time. She wanted to make sure he understood her words and the latter nodded.

Robert was aware of how much his wife was worried about him. And that moment, he wouldn’t want to argue with her because of how tired he was.

"I understand," he replied. Thinking his reply would make her feel better, she ended up shedding more tears.

"You scared me, you know? You know very well I can’t do anything without you and you just had to come back with a gunshot!"

Robert stared at her, slightly confused but he didn’t ask her anything but instead, held her close as she sobbed against his chest.

Francis arrived back at his house, and slammed the door to his truck hard, as if it had been the cause of all of his troubles.

Seraphina walked towards him while making sure that she was walking funnily as she’d been doing for the past week.

"Did you finally catch him, Francis?" Seraphina asked him as soon as his foot stepped inside the living room. He didn’t reply to her and she could only scoff internally at his incapability to catch an ordinary man.

"I found him and shot him in his leg—"

"Then where is he?" Seraphina asked, feeling excited as a faint smile appeared on her lips but made sure to keep it at a minimum.

"He escaped," Francis replied and the faint smile immediately disappeared as if it had never been there to begin with. "That bastard fucking escaped even after I shot him in the leg but this won’t happen for long. I will catch him and cut off those legs of his," he promised and Seraphina revealed a sad smile because she felt like she had to at that moment.

Silence enveloped them until Francis parted his lips to speak again.

"Have you finally gone to the hospital to get your body flushed?" He asked her but Seraphina stiffened, unable to answer him. "Answer me!" He demanded.

"N-not yet," she replied, shaking after his yelling. "I will go tomorrow," she added.

"It’s been a week already. If you dare to conceive the child of that bastard, I will throw you back to where I found you. Don’t think just because I didn’t do that after you let yourself get raped, I will allow you to still be here after you conceive his child."

Without waiting for her reply, he stood up from the couch and left for upstairs, leaving Seraphina to ponder alone.

Glaring at his back before he finally disappeared, she grabbed a nearby pillow and screamed into it. She had never been raped in the beginning so there was the need for her to need to go to the hospital and get her body system flushed.

"Why can’t you just catch him and let me torture him? And now you want me to go to the hospital for a stupid reason," she scoffed until she realized something. "No wonder he has refused to touch me ever since. Now I have to go to the hospital and pretend I got my body system flushed," she sighed.

More days passed and Robert made sure to stay with him just as Emma had requested of him until his injuries finally closed and he could walk properly again. But during the days that he’d been at home, he didn’t stay idle.

Robert made a few phone calls to some of his friends asking for help but didn’t mention the part where Francis was searching to kill him.

A few offered their assistance until everything was confirmed.

Robert’s phone rang, gaining his attention as he played with the children. He placed his hand on his lips as a sign for them to stay quiet. They repeated his action and nodded obediently.

After sharing a few words with the caller, Robert smiled triumphantly. He hung up on the call a few seconds later and jumped in joy.

The kids followed his actions again and jumped with him even though they had no idea why he was happy all of a sudden.

Emma walked into the room to find them jumping all of a sudden and her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

Robert sighted Emma and immediately hugged her.

"Why are you happy all of a sudden?" She asked him.

"We will be leaving this city tomorrow," he revealed, catching everyone off guard, even Beatrice who had come inside the room a second after Emma had.

"What do you mean?" Emma asked in confusion.

Robert stopped his jumping and explained everything to her. After he was done, she hugged him tightly, her eyes brimming with tears but she tried to hold them back.

"We are finally leaving," he repeated as he hugged her back. "We have until 6 am to get ready and leave," he added.

Emma released him, and looked him in the eyes before she asked,

"What about Francis? Won’t he see our faces when we get to the airport?" He asked, worriedly.

Robert smiled at her before he replied, "We are not going to the airport, silly." He teased her. "We are going to the train station."
