Chapter 340: UGLY MAKEUP
After playing with his children for a while, Robert finally decided to go to work for the day.
As soon as he stepped foot into the building where they controlled the transaction of shipment of their supplies, he was immediately poked by the gun of his fellow colleague who said,
"Francis has been looking for you. You better go now and answer him." Without waiting for his reply, the colleague left him to carry on with his work.
Sighing, Robert dusted his palm on his clothes and gulped down his saliva before walking to the main office of the building. The building was large but wasn’t high up to two-story buildings. It was simply wide and stretched to many acres of lands.
Robert had to pass so many crates of guns, and open door after door before he finally arrived at the main office.
Knocking on the door, he waited for the main boss to reply to him before he replied. Standing outside longer than usual without hearing any reply, Robert knocked on the door one more time. Fortunately, he didn’t have to wait for long before he heard,
"Come inside."
Sighing tirelessly even before the day started due to the incoming scoldings he was going to get as soon as he opened the door and the angry look he would receive from Francis. Robert sighed again.
Twisting the doorknob, viper pushed it open and what greeted him was first, the smell of hard sex, the pungent smell of tobacco and the choking perfume of a woman who was seated on the opposite seat. As if her position wouldn’t disclose that they just had an intense activity in the office.
"What took you so long to get to the office today, Robert? You are two damn hours late to work and when you arrived, you didn’t even bother to come to me straight to apologize for being tardy." Francis, a man in his mid-thirties, with full hair and a full black beard with tobacco on his lips complained nonstop. "Just because you are one of my best men here, it doesn’t mean you get to do as you want. Don’t forget, I’m still the real boss around here so you’d better respect me or else, I will get rid of you without looking back," he threatened.
Viper made sure not to interrupt while Francis complained about everything and when he noticed that the man was done yelling at him, he nodded obediently and replied,
"I won’t do that again boss. Something urgent came up and I had to attend to it as soon as possible."
"I don’t care what your reasons were. Don’t repeat this same mistake and expect me to forgive you. For goodness sake, I’m a business here and it would be a terrible thing to be out of men."
’An illegal business,’ Robert thought to himself but didn’t dare say it out loud. With his head still lowered in respect, he noticed the lady turn her head slightly, just a little so that it could be resting over her shoulder, judging him with a smirk on her lips.
Robert also noticed the amount of makeup that was on her face as if she had been hit by a makeup truck. Sighing internally, Robert wondered how Francis, one of the richest but also dangerous senators of the country fancied a person as bad-looking as her.
"Aren’t you listening to what I’ve been saying?" Francis yelled at Robert. Bringing his attention back to him.
"I’m sorry," Robert apologized once more.
"Good, now leave," Francis ordered, glaring at Robert as if his entire existence has been a pain in the butt.
Without waiting to breathe in another oxygen, Robert walked out of the office and when he was finally outside, he sighed for the nth time since he had woken up.
Walking back to his post, Robert moved the guns that were on the list for purchase—ranging from pistols to bazookas.
Ever since he’d been uninvolved in this sort of work, Robert had hated his entire existence. Hating the fact that the only way he could provide for his family was by supplying dangerous guns to people whom he knew weren’t going to use them sensibly. They were only going to use it to destroy innocent lives.
When it was finally lunch break, Robert pulled out the food that Emma had prepared for him to eat for lunch and started munching on it. He couldn’t afford fast food since he’d given most of his money he earned to Emma to get groceries for the house since it was better than going out and eating, she would just prepare his lunch and he could take it with him, and bring it to work.
In the whole warehouse, Robert noticed how quiet it was especially since everyone had gone to eat, leaving him to stay there all by himself which he found very comforting.
Suddenly, he heard the clicking of heels in the warehouse. The weather was warm and the wind was cool, making his relaxation more comforting and the last thing he needed was someone of no importance ruining it for him.
"Hi."
Robert ignored the call and continued too much on his meal as he closed his eyes to savor the taste of his lunch.
"Hello."
He heard the person call again but he was too busy enjoying himself to respond.
"Hey, I’m talking to you," the angry voice yelled at him.
Annoyed, Robert stood up from the stool he’d been sitting on and turned to glare at the person calling him.
"Hi, I’m Seraphina," the lady from Francis’ office introduced herself.
"So?" Viper asked, wishing she could just leave him alone so that he could continue his meal before lunch break was over.
Stretching her left hand forward, Seraphina asked with a smile on her face, "May I know your name please?"
Robert frowned, wondering if she didn’t hear when Francis had acknowledged his name or if she was simply pretending.
"You may not," he replied and walked away.
