Chapter 326: UNANSWERABLE QUESTIONS
"W-well," nanny Beatrice stuttered, hesitating to spill out any more information that she already had. "I think you should eat your meal, dear, and go rest. I’ll head back to the kitchen now and continue with my work."
Without waiting for Erika to react to her words, the old woman scurried away immediately while Erika stared at her departing figure.
"That was weird," she mumbled under her breath. Erika glared down at the tantalizing food as the aroma entered her nostrils and it only made her feel more hungry than she already was.
Picking up the spoon that was beside the plate, Erika scooped some of the soup into her mouth and swallowed the hot content. Without wasting any more seconds, she scooped another until the plate was empty.
After settling the plate aside, one of the babies groaned. Quickly, Erika stared inside the stroller and found Luca moving his hand over his face.
A few seconds later, John also started moving. It was obvious they were going to wake up soon, and they were going to be extremely hungry if they did.
Not long after, the living room was enveloped with the cries of the babies and Erika was stunned, not knowing what she wanted to do.
Nanny Beatrice rushed out of the kitchen and came forward. "You need to give them milk," she commented and Erika resisted the urge to roll her eyes, as if she didn’t know that was what they wanted.
Without replying, Erika moved the stroller to the room she had just come out from while nanny Beatrice followed behind her.
Once inside the room, Erika looked around her room, searching for any cameras.
"Are there any cameras in this room?" Erika asked nanny Beatrice and the latter shook her head.
"Viper didn’t put any cameras in here. There are no cameras inside the whole house," the old woman replied.
Erika glanced at her, not believing what she said but since she needed to feed her babies, that was what she was going to do at that moment.
Erika reached to take off her clothes, and that was when she noticed that she was wearing different clothes.
Questions formed in her head but she made a mental note to ask them later.
After removing her clothes, Erika started breastfeeding and the room immediately fell into silence.
Nanny Beatrice stood awkwardly as she waited for when Erika would need her assistance but it seemed that Erika got everything covered or rather, Erika didn’t trust her yet to ask for any assistance.
The old woman sighed internally, totally understanding her predicament. But she couldn’t do anything to make Erika trust her so she was willing to wait.
’Viper made a bad decision of taking this girl away from her family,’ she concluded in her mind before releasing another sigh, but this time, she mistakenly sighed out loud and Erika ended up hearing it.
"I’m sorry, I was just thinking about something," she quickly said, folding her hands behind her.
"What did you mean Viper has gone through a lot?" Erika brought back the matter. She was very curious even though she shared no relationship with Viper.
Nanny Beatrice’ face turned pale as she stood frozen like a statue. She hadn’t expected Erika to bring back that question and from the looks of things, Erika wasn’t going to let it rest until she had found answers and those answers would be from her.
"Dear, I think that you should ask Viper those questions. He will be the one to tell you." As soon as Beatrice said those words, she instantly regretted it. There was no way that Viper was going to tell Erika what he’d been through and there was little to no chance that Erika was going to ask him that question. And even if she did, viper would question her about where she’d heard that, and then she would tell him it was all from her.
As these rains of thoughts flooded Beatrice’s mind, she suddenly grew tired of standing and reached for a chair and sat down.
Unbeknownst to her, Erika also had the same thoughts and she wasn’t going to question Viper about his past.
Turning to look at Beatrice whose eyes were closed for a bit before opening them back, Erika sighed and looked down at her babies as they sucked her breasts.
"What about that woman who looks like me?" Erika suddenly asked after a few moments passed without looking at Beatrice.
But what she didn’t know was that she had almost given the old woman a heart attack as she grabbed her chest to calm down her breathing.
"W-which woman are you talking about? I don’t know any woman that looks like you," Beatrice denied, hoping that Erika would believe her and also stop asking her questions but it was obvious from the look that Erika was giving her, she didn’t believe her one bit.
When Viper had mentioned nanny Beatrice earlier, she had already concluded that the old woman must have been with him for a long while already so there was no way that the old woman didn’t know about the woman she was talking about.
"Is she living in this house?" Erika asked, not willing to give up the matter this time.
Beatrice only looked at her but didn’t respond. Internally, she wished that Erika would stop asking questions and focus on feeding her babies.
"Is she his sister? Aunt? Cousin?" Erika asked, and Beatrice could feel her heartbeat increase.
Viper didn’t restrict her from revealing anything to Erika but she still felt that it would be wrong to tell her everything since it seemed that Viper wanted to be the one to tell her.
Erika waited for Beatrice to come out of her thoughts and reply to her question.
She watched Beatrice stand up from the chair and walked towards the door. But before opening it, she replied, "She was Viper’s wife." And immediately, she closed the door behind her to escape from any more questions.
