Chapter 32: IMPOSSIBLE
Mr Davis was not even given the chance to talk but his request was already denied. "Look Ethan, Jasmine can’t stay in prison", he said.
"Why not? Isn’t that where criminals are meant to stay?" Ethan questioned coldly.
Jasper Davis didn’t like the idea of his daughter staying in prison. If news got out then people would start mocking the Davis family and investors would start thinking that he is a criminal which will greatly affect his company. He didn’t like the fact that he had to beg a young man who was old enough to be his son like this. His blood was boiling in anger but he covered it with his desperate and pleading face.
Jasper Davis was the friend of John Anderson, Ethan’s father but he has always been envious of his friend because the Anderson’s wealth were bigger than the Davis and he didn’t like that at all. He thought of ways to get the Anderson’s wealth until the idea popped in his head. Since he has a daughter and John has a son, why not make them marry each other. That way he can instruct Jasmine to get the property papers and then he will own the Anderson corporations. He was just a greedy old man.
"Jasmine is your childhood friend and fiancé, you can’t let her rot in jail", he tried to persuade Ethan.
"I never accepted Jasmine to be my fiancé and I never will. But as my childhood friend, I can reduce the penalty and make her stay there for a year. That is her punishment", Ethan stated without even raising his head to look at the old man’s expression.
When Jasper Davis heard what Ethan said, he felt like his world was going to collapse. All that he has been planning will be ruined all because of his daughter’s carelessness. He gritted his teeth in anger.
"Leave now! Also the merger between Anderson and Davis has been called off" Ethan said and continued reading the documents in front of him.
Jasper Davis could only get up and leave. He was devastated but still held on to his pride. He needed to see Jasmine. He got into his car and ordered his driver to take him to the police station.
He got in and registered as a visitor then a police guard brought Jasmine out. She looked like she just got out from the jungle. Her hair were all scattered and her clothes had been ruffled.
There were mascara stains on her face. She looked so miserable but Jasper Davis didn’t feel pity for her. Instead he was thinking about his losses.
"You foolish girl! do you know what you have done now?" Jasper said tapping his walking stick on the ground angrily.
"But dad I....." Jasmine tried to say something but was cut off.
"Shut up! What did I ever do wrong to God for him to give you as my daughter? You embarrass me!" Jasper said in despite.
Tears started falling from Jasmine’s eyes. "Dad, I didn’t know this would happen. You were the one who told me that I should keep an eye on Ethan and make sure no woman takes him away from me so that is what I did. I started following Ethan because he refused to take my calls and he never replied to my texts. I found out he has been visiting the Walters corporations too often. I was a little suspicious so I followed one more time and that was when I found him going on a date with that woman, Erika. I sent some thugs after her to turn her life miserable. I didn’t know it wouldn’t go as planned", she said in one breath.
"Can you even hear yourself? You sent thugs after someone whom you didn’t even bother to research," Jasper hissed. "That woman is Erika Walters and she is related to the Walters family."
"That is impossible", Jasmine said wiping her face on her dress.
"Too bad it is, you have just offended the Walters family!" Jasper Davis said looking scared and angry at the same time. The Walters were not people they could offend.
"Am sorry dad, but when can I get out of here? I really hate it here", she said sizing the walls of the police station.
"Not anytime soon, you are going to stay here for a year", he dropped the bomb.
"WHAT!!" Jasmine screamed attracting the attention of the guards.
"Hey! Keep it down there. This is not the market place where you can scream", a guard warned and the both of them apologized.
"How can I stay here for a whole year dad, I have a life outside of these walls. You won’t let me be in here for a year, right Dad?", Jasmine asked feeling a little regretful now for doing what she had done.
"Listen here, I will do everything I can to get you out of here but I can’t promise anything. You just have to stay here and don’t add more crimes to the one you have just done. Don’t complicate things", Jasper warned. He knew his daughter, she was too spoilt and she might start throwing tantrums in there.
