Chapter 313: CONFUSED LOVE
Viper walked inside the hideout where Adrain and Felicia were staying. Although he had his very own house, he would still come over and spend the night. He stared at his hands which were covered with blood and couldn’t help but remember the shrieks of pain his debtors had tried to muffle out from the cello tapes he had used to muffle their cries.
As usual, he saw Adrian on the couch watching the business news as if he was still the CEO of a company.
Viper dropped his jacket on the couch and Adrian turned to see him already looking at him. "Boss, you are back." Adrian stood up from the couch but Viper raised his hands to stop him and he dropped back to his seat.
"You were right, Erika is indeed pregnant." he mumbled like an old man who had just been heartbroken by a young lady. "and she is pregnant for Ethan," he added.
Adrian stared at Viper, completely confused and wondering how Viper was able to find out about that,
"What do you mean boss?" Adrain asked, adjusting his seat even though his body had turned tense for a moment.
Viper glanced at Adrian but didn’t utter anything anymore.
"Boss," Adrian asked, not wanting to let go of the matter so easily. From the stench that was oozing out of Viper’s mouth, it did take Adrian a long guess to know that Viper was drunk. Not heavily—but he was still drunk and vulnerable.
"Have you ever been in love Adrian," Viper suddenly asked Adrian and the latter turned speechless. He stuttered, unable to voice out proper words and when he tried even harder, Viper bombarded him with another question. "I don’t mean the kind of love you have for Erika. I mean, have you truly loved someone so dearly that you would exchange their life with yours if you ever found out that you were going to lose them to death?"
More confusion fell on Adriaon’s head as he tried to understand what Viper was talking about. Despite understanding him well now, he still didn’t know how to reply to it.
"I love Erika," he managed to say.
Viper hissed in annoyance, totally irritated with Adrian’s reply. "Can you risk your life for her own?" he asked her, closing his eyes a bit before opening them back to glare at Adrian for an answer.
"I love her very much boss," Adrian replied and when Viper waited for him to add the party he wanted to hear, but still heard it from Adreia, he angrily sprang up from the couch and clipped,
"What a fool. You keep saying that you love her but you can’t risk your life for her? Are you sure you even love her or you are just angry that she moved on from you after your divorce and she found someone much better than you and also doesn’t care about you anymore?"
With that, Viper turned around and went upstairs while Viper stared at his back until he completely vanished. Viper might have already left but his question still lingered in the dragon’s head. Was he really in love with Erika? he thought to himself.
He scratched his head like a little teenage boy who tried to solve an equation in the middle of an exam but it seemed his brain has completely abandoned him. When he remembered how angry he would be whenever he saw Erika and Ethan’s hands clicked together, anger fumed inside of him and he huffed. "Of course, I’m in love with her, that’s why I want to end Ethan and have her all to myself."
He heard the upstairs door open and close and Felicia walked towards him, asking, "What happened to your boss? I’ve never seen him drunk before."
Adrian frowned deeply, "Were you listening to our conversation again?" he questioned her despite knowing she would just deny it. "When will you stop doing that?"
"Who said it was listening in your conversation? I just happened to be close and heard all what you people said." Staring at him in the eyes, she mocked, "So you don’t know if you truly love Erika or not or if you can risk your whole life for her?"
Adrain glared at her, wishing she would go far with the matter but he thought wrong, "Since you do know if you can risk your life for Erika, can you risk it for me?" she asked him, intending to cup his cheeks but Adrian swatted her hands away as if it was a disease that he didn’t want to catch.
"If I see you dying on the street and see a dog dying beside you, I will choose to save the dog’s life and leave you to die there." Adrian uttered with bitterness in his tongue and glared at her and ignored her to continue watching his business news. While Felicia stood like a statue, completely shocked by Adrian’s reply. She opened her mouth to say something but all the words hung up on her throat. Giving up, she decided to head back inside her room.

Viper wobbled like a drunk man he was as he tried to take his shoes off. When he finally got one shoe off his feet, he opted to get the next one off as well. After so much struggling, he was finally able to get it off as well.
"Why does life have to be tough when one is trying so hard to make it easy for themselves?" he grumbled as he tried to take his shirt off but the buttons didn’t want to loosened up. He gave up and slammed on the bed, the soft cushion pressing down due to his weight. He looked up at the ceiling and mumbled, "Emma." His eyes were so full of tears that they turned blurry and now, he couldn’t see the light properly. It was then he realized that the light was still switched on but he was too comfortable in his bed to get up and turn it off, so, he let it be and closed his eyes to sleep.
