Chapter 297: COME WITH ME
"Who did you buy the gift for?" Viper asked Erika, wanting to dive into the conversation. Erika saw through his intentions clearly but decided to play along smoothly. But before replying, she looked up to see if there were cameras around and a ton of them were placed in a corner, monitoring everyone’s moves.
"It’s for a special someone," Erika replied. She knew that he already guessed whom she was talking about. She looked down to find his phone in one of his hands. The other was empty and he said he was here to shop. "Who is that woman who looks exactly like me and is on your phone?" She suddenly questioned and immediately, Viper’s eyes widened with surprise before they went back to normal as if he’d not just been surprised by her question a second ago. Thankfully, Erika didn’t miss it. She was staring at him so intently that she wouldn’t miss it when he took a breath.
Despite being surprised, Viper managed to ask his question, "What woman are you talking about?"
Erika only stared at him without replying to his question. Subconsciously, Viper placed his hand on his shirt as he tried to control his breathing. He was very much aware of what Erika was talking about but what he didn’t understand was how was about to find out about Emma.
"The woman on your phone who looks exactly like me. What’s her name? And why does she look like me? Did you have my picture photoshopped?" She attacked him with questions without any rest. She had always wanted to see Viper again so that she could finally know who that woman was.
"How did you find out about the woman on my phone?" He asked her, realizing it was completely a waste of time if he denied the truth anymore.
"The day you asked me to come with you," she replied without holding back. She was no longer a captive so she wasn’t going to lie about how she found out about the photo.
Another glint of surprise flashed through Viper’s eyes but he tried to conceal it by blinking it away.
"She’s no one," he replied. "I have somewhere to go, enjoy your shopping," he added and left from there.
Talking about Emma suddenly made him feel uncomfortable. And for a second, he felt as if he was cheating on his dead wife by falling in love with Erika. He clenched his teeth tightly, wanting to conceal his anger that came out of nowhere. The weirdest thing was that he wasn’t angry at anyone but himself.
Erika watched his back and gritted her teeth in anger also. He just evaded her question. A question that would continue to bother her until he’d replied to it.
Now that he was in front of her, attempting to leave just like that, Erika had the urge to follow him. However, she didn’t completely believe that he would drive her to where Adrain or Felicia were staying. At least, she would be able to find something, hopefully, she thought to herself.
Quickly, Erika sneaked behind viper until he took the elevator to the parking lot. When the doors of his elevator closed, she got out of her hiding spot and entered the other empty room.
Reaching the elevator, she watched him enter his car and zoom off. With a skip of a heartbeat, she also did the same and followed behind him.
Getting to the bustling street, Erika could only wish that she hadn’t lost him. This was the first time that she was following someone and the man whom she was following was dangerous. His tattoos already screamed that out the first time she saw him.
On the other hand, Viper clenched the steering wheel so tightly that it seemed as if he wanted to rip it out of its gears. "Why am I so fucking mad at myself?" He questioned himself.
When he noticed that the car in front of him wasn’t moving due to the obvious traffic, he stabbed the horn button with his fist, as if he wanted the car to disappear from his sight.
When he realized that it was due to traffic, he sighed and leaned on her seat, resting his head on it as he punched his temples out of frustration.
When he looked at his rearview mirror, he came to notice that the traffic was indeed a heavy one. Everyone’s vehicle had also stopped as well. He didn’t get to see Erika’s car which was camouflaged with the help of another car in front of her.
Inside the car, Erika slammed her hands on the steering wheels as well. "Where did this stupid traffic come from?" She asked herself, frustration written all over her face.
When the traffic started to move a little, Erika sighed in relief and restarted the engines that she had turned off before. In no time, she was in Viper’s car, heading to where she didn’t know and with the eagerness in her eyes, she didn’t want to lose him no matter what.
Suddenly, she saw his car coming to a halt on the other side of the street. Frowning, Erika stopped her car and stopped a little further away from him. She watched him get down from the car and stood with his hands inside his leather jacket, staring at her car. It didn’t take Erika any guess to find out that he already knew that she was following.
Viper walked down towards her car and stared at her. "You need to level up your skills of following people," he remarked.
Erika glared at him, wishing he would just disappear from her sight but she wasn’t some kind of magician to do that trick.
"Who was that woman?" She questioned, ignoring his remark.
Viper stared at her, noting that she wasn’t going to leave him until she found out the truth. Now he wasn’t sure if he should tell her about it or not.
"Tell me," Erika demanded this time.
"If you want to find out about that woman, come with me," he offered.
