Chapter 295: MILITARY BABY
"What kind of a question is that?" Erika questioned Edward, finding confusion in his words. "Of course, I’m going to make sure he goes to jail or dies in my hands," she promises. Her words may sound cruel for she was depriving Jake of a father but she had already made this promise to herself for a long time and she wasn’t going to turn her back on it.
Ethan stared at her, completely agreeing with his eyes as they washed her body. He had sworn to kill Adrain himself but since Erika had the same goal, he was willing to hand her the opportunity to do so. He turned to give Edward a murderous look as if asking ’What kind of question is that?’ the same thing that Erika had asked him also, and the latter could only cower and lower his head, totally forgetting that he’s a military man.
Suddenly he raised his head back up, remembering his occupation, and glared back at Ethan.
"It was just a question," he said in his defense, raising both of his hands up to surrender with the hope that Ethan wouldn’t murder him with his eyes.
"Well you have your answer now," said Ethan. "If anyone decides to adopt the baby, make sure that you run a heavy background check on them first before you let the orphanage give the child away." Even though he was already aware of what Edward was supposed to do, he couldn’t help but still remind him.
He heard Edward grumble something under his breath as he stared at the coffee table and admired the fancy-looking flowers that were used in decorating around it. Since Erika had started living with Ethan under the same roof, she eventually got tired of his plain black, white, and gray colors and decided to add some brightness to everything which Ethan didn’t mind at all. He openly permitted her to do whatever she wanted.
"Did you hear what I said?" Ethan questioned Edward, wanting to gain the other’s attention.
Hearing Ethan’s demanding tone, Edward couldn’t help but look at him as he wore a tight smile on his lips that stretched to his cheek as he nodded.
"Of course, I hear and understand you Ethan," he responded.
Erika watched their interaction and could only wonder what Edward was grumbling to himself earlier. From the look of things, Ethan and Edward got along but also didn’t get along at the same time. Their interaction was confusing but she decided not to be bothered with it. She wondered why she never came across Edward despite their family’s close relationship but was informed that Edward was out for his military training when he was quite young. Leaving her perplexed
"Now since there’s nothing more for you to discuss about, leave already," Ethan ordered, his time low and dark.
Edward glared at Ethan and balled his fist, wishing he could punch his cousin with it. When he saw Erika staring at him with widened eyes—probably shocked that Ethan wanted him to leave so soon, he pulled up a sheepish face and cried as invisible tears rolled down his eyes.
"Sister-in-law, do you see? I came here to tell you both something and neither of you even offered me a drink or some snacks to munch on. My throat is parched and needy for some sweet and tasty juice but he’s already sending me away. How heartless can you be," he whined like a child whose favorite candy had just been snatched away from him by some school bully.
Erika stared at him, completely frozen as she tried to search for words to explain her actions. She’s never seen a grown man act like this, especially one who has a high rank in the military field and is greatly respected by his juniors.
’I wonder if they would see him the same way if they saw his face right now,’ Erika thought to herself, resisting the urge to smack his face at that moment. His face was starting to creep her out as it didn’t suit his features at all. Suddenly making her remember Ethan’s pout the first time that he took her out on a date and confessed his feelings for her.
She glanced at the man sitting beside her and could feel the change of atmosphere due to the glare that he was giving to Edward, who immediately shut his mouth.
"Repeat that," she heard him dare Edward and the latter gulped down his saliva first before he reached inside his pocket to look for something.
He brought out his phone and pretended to answer a phone call even though they didn’t hear a single ringtone echo in the living room.
"Yes! Okay, I will be there soon. I just finished a meeting and I will be heading down there. Wait for me, I’m coming," said Edward as he stood up from the couch and started heading towards the door.
He opened and closed the door behind him and immediately, Erika’s waves of laughter echoed in the living room.
"You chased him away when he was just asking for juice and snacks," she said as she placed her hands on her mouth to try to control it but it was unbearable for her. Never did she think that Edward would pull off such an old trick from the book to escape Ethan’s dare.
"I simply asked him to repeat what he said. I never told him to leave," Ethan defended himself and believed he was only asking Edward to repeat what he wanted.
Erika looked at him and only shook her head out of amusement.
"If you say so," she admitted jokingly.
Ethan smiled at her. He scooted over to her side and flashed her his teeth. "Since we are alone in the house, how about we continue from where we stopped?" He suggested.
Erika’s cheeks turned scarlet as she stared at Ethan in bewilderment. "But..."
Without letting Erika complete her sentence, he quickly lifted her off the couch and headed toward their room to continue their romance session.
