Chapter 216: IDEA

Adrian, who was being held by another officer, couldn’t believe that Erika made a phone call to the police station and he didn’t know anything about it. She must have made that call with my phone the same day it went missing, he thought to himself as his eyes glared with anger. But when he realized that it was impossible for him to not end up being imprisoned, he rejoiced internally.

"That’s nonsense! I’m going to call the commissioner this instant!" said Felix as he fetched his phone and dialed the commissioner’s number. As soon as the call connected, he explained to the commissioner everything that happened and requested for him to be at the police station as fast as possible. When he was done, he said to the officers, "The commissioner is on his way. He will explain better because I simply don’t understand what you mean by that there wasn’t enough evidence."

The officers glanced at each other and wondered if they had offended the business tycoon but their questions would be answered once the commissioner arrived.

In no time, the commissioner, Mr Brown, arrived inside the police station and could feel the tense atmosphere.

"Felix," Mr Brown, a 42-year-old commissioner who doesn’t look his age at all. His uniform that fitted his muscled body perfectly and his trimmed face that shined called Felix.

"Mr Brown, is it impossible that we can’t get Adrian arrested just because the evidence isn’t enough?" Felix asked the man, ignoring his greeting. This was a serious issue and he only needed a direct answer without any beating around the bush.

Mr brown sighed helplessly before he responded, "Yes Felix. The evidence is not enough but it is enough to put Adrian as a suspect."

"He’s not suspect goddammit! He’s the one who kidnapped Erika and we are sure of it," said Daniel. He couldn’t believe that the police officers wouldn’t arrest Adrian just because the evidence they provided wasn’t enough. It simply made no sense.

"You see," Adrian butted in confidently. "I wasn’t the one who had Erika kidnapped. I know that she’s my ex-wife but I’ve accepted the fact that she’s not in love with me anymore. I’m not that wicked to kidnap...."

Adrian didn’t get to finish that sentence before he felt a huge hard fist, landing on his already bruised-up face and he yelped in pain.

"Shut up!" Daniel demanded.

Edward, who stood by the corner quietly since Mr Brown arrived, suddenly called both Felix and Daniel and took them outside.

"What’s wrong with you?! Didn’t you hear what the commissioner was saying about the evidence? He said it wasn’t enough," Felix demanded from Edward but when the latter only stared at him but didn’t respond, he added, "Why did you bring us out here?!"

"Do you still have the CCTV camera where you caught Adrian at the mansion before he bombed it?" Edward asked and the two brothers stared at each other before they face-palmed themselves.

"How could we forget about the CCTV camera Felix?" Daniel asked Felix who also felt stupid for forgetting about it. "But wait, the CCTV camera didn’t completely capture Adrian’s face, is it possible for us to use it?" This question was directed to Edward and the latter responded,

"I’ve watched the video and I can guarantee that the video can put Adrian in prison."

"Then what are we still waiting for? Let’s show it to the commissioner now," said Felix intending to go back inside the police station but Edward pulled him back.

"Wait! Listen to me first, I have an idea," he said.

Felix and Daniel glanced at each other with furrowed eyebrows. Their only idea in their head was to get Adrian jailed and find Erika so what kind of idea did Edward suddenly have? The both of them wondered. Even though they felt like they were wasting time, they released a sigh and asked,

"What kind of idea?"

"Well, you both said that you followed Adrian once but you weren’t able to keep track of him and he disappeared, right?" asked Edward.

Both Daniel and Felix glanced at each other one more time before nodding.

"That’s because he knew that you were trailing him," Edward concluded. "Or probably because you weren’t fast enough," he added.

"This is not the time to be joking," said Felix. He was only getting more annoyed than he already was.

"Right right. So here’s what I’m thinking....if we show the commissioner that video now, Adrian could get arrested but would still deny the crime and we still wouldn’t be able to find Erika," he explained.

"So what are you saying then?" Daniel questioned. "That we let him go and he will be free again?"

"Yes!"

"Are you mad?!" Felix questioned this time.

Edward shook his head before explaining some more, "If we let Adrian go now that he knows that Erika was able to make a phone call with his phone, it is obvious that he will go to the place where he hid her and would want to teach her a lesson. So all we have to do is follow him and this time even more discreetly than you two did and boom, he will take us to where he hid Erika even knowing it."

Both Daniel and Felix suddenly went into a trance as they tried to process the plan in their heads before their eyes immediately lit up.

"That’s such a brilliant plan," Felix commented. "And to think that I didn’t couldn’t come up with it," he added as he rubbed his chin, amused.

"Hey! I’ve been in the military, okay? This is one of the ways that we can save the victims that the terrorists have kept as hostages so I’m certain that it would work this time too," said Edward. After they made their decision, they walked back inside the police station and agreed to place Adrian as a suspect instead which baffled the latter but he couldn’t be more glad.
