Chapter 199: REPULSE
"What’s wrong?" Adrian questioned Erika when he saw that she’d already moved further away from him.
"I said I’ve already gotten the cuts treated," she repeated for the nth time. For some reason, Adrian didn’t seem to want to listen to her anymore. He kept on insisting unnecessarily. When she thought about the possibility of Adrian insisting so much to get closer to her, she backed away even more.
Since she’d been living in the mansion, Adrain hadn’t dared to lay a finger on her or think more of forcing himself on her but the previous day, he’d thrown a whisky bottle at her, and today, he might want to force himself on her. She would rather die than let Adrian force himself on her.
"Where are you running off to?" Adrian asked her. His question had her take another step backward until she was one step away from the door. She didn’t bother if Adrian would still think that she loved him or not. All that mattered was to stay as far away from him as possible but how will she be able to do that? She was living in his house and she’s his hostage.
"I think that’s enough treatment for the day," she concluded. She watched Adrian squint his eyes at her before he started taking steps towards her, his shoe clicking on the floor, making a slight noise in the quiet living room. Even though people lived in the mansion, it was always empty.
"Erika," Adrian called her with a soft tone which had her frown at him as she awaited his next words. "You promised that you’d think about my proposal about us getting married," he reminded her. "Days have passed but you still haven’t given me a reply yet, are you having a change of mind or does your heart still long for your late lover?" He questioned her.
Erika couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Adrian called Ethan late as if he didn’t know that Ethan was very much alive. Now she knew what he was thinking about, he wanted to claim her as his own now that his mortal enemy was alive and would come searching for her which was why he hadn’t been listening to her words. And now, he wanted to marry her and make her his wife again.
Erika chuckled internally. She knew that Adrian was stupid and delusional but how delusional can he be to think that she would simply agree to remarry him just like that, as if she was under some hypnosis?
"Or do you still believe that Ethan is alive and you want to be together with him again?" He questioned her with a low threatening tone as he stared down at her and waited for an answer from her.
When she heard Adrain’s other words, she turned her head and her eyes collided with his glare. What is he talking about? Does he not believe me? Rains of thoughts flooded her mind as she tried to come up with an answer which took longer than expected.
"What are you thinking about Erika? You think I didn’t know you were the one who took my phone the other day and blamed it on Felicia?" He questioned her. Now that he knows that Ethan is alive, he doesn’t plan to continue to let Erika trick him with her words or ever find out that Ethan was alive.
Speechless, Erika could only stand and listen to him. She couldn’t believe that Adrian had already caught up with her lie which wasn’t good news.
"ANSWER ME!!" Adrian suddenly barked with a demanding tone which had Erika flinch for a second before she regained her control.
"It took you long enough to realize that I was only fooling with you, trying to trick your sick brain into believing that I would still love a psychopath like you. You must have thought that I loved you," Erika retorted with a tone filled with sarcasm. Since Adrian had already found out that she was only tricking him, it was best to cut the conversation short and simply admit everything.
Although Adrian would go back to tighten her security, she didn’t mind at all. She’d already mastered enough routes in the mansion and would be planning her escape soon.
"So you are in love with who? Ethan? Ethan that I murdered with my own two hands? Don’t be so delusional Erika, Ethan is dead so you have no choice but to stay here and be my wife."
"Dead? Ethan’s dead?" She questioned him. "Did you think that I believed the nonsense you spouted that day?" She added.
"And what makes you think that he’s still alive?" He questioned her back.
"Because of my love for him. My love for him is still very much alive which only means that he’s alive and he will come looking for me one day, Adrian. You’d better be prepared for that day," she threatened him.
Out of frustration and rage, Adrian reached for a vase and broke it out of repulse. Thankfully, Erika wasn’t close to either him or the vase that he broke so the particles didn’t hurt her.
With aggression, Adrian took the TV remote and turned it on. "Don’t you see it, Erika? Ethan is dead," he tried to force her to swallow the bad news.
Erika glanced at the same news that had reported Ethan dead before looking back at Adrian whose forehead was already starting to glisten with sweat and asked,
"Are you showing this news to me to make me believe he’s dead or for yourself because you know that he isn’t?"
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Adrian questioned him.
"We both know that Ethan isn’t dead Adrian, so stop lying to yourself, it’s just pathetic. Wait, don’t tell me that you are afraid now you know that Ethan would be coming for you?" She mocked him. Since Adrian despised hearing Ethan’s name so much and hated the fact that she loved someone else, it would be nice to rub some salt in his wounds.
