Chapter 191: ACID
The sound of a ringing phone echoed in a car, grunting in frustration, Felicia reached into her purse and picked it up. She saw Mary’s name displayed as the caller and rolled her eyeballs. "What does she want this time?" she wondered.
"What is it, mom?" Felicia asked when the call got connected, her tone of voice was changed into a soft one.
Back inside the mansion, Mary stopped her pacing when she heard Felicia’s voice. "Where are you? Where did you go without informing me?" She asked all at once.
It took Felicia all her self-control to not curse at the woman. After releasing a big sigh, the latter replied,
"I just went out to pick a special gift for someone, don’t worry. I will be back soon."
"You do know that our pictures are still all over the place, we are still being searched and you are going out? What if you are caught?" Mary asked worriedly.
Ever since they arrived inside the mansion, they had not dared to step out since the police were still looking for them. Out of fear of not wanting to be caught, the both of them would stay inside.
"I know that and I won’t be caught, now bye," said Felicia. She pulled the phone away from her ears and hung up on the call. "That woman worries too much, if she sees the person I’m going to meet, she will find out that I..." She was about to spout out the rest of her words but immediately cut it short when she remembered that there was a driver. "Drive faster," she ordered.
The driver stared at her from the rearview mirror before he nodded, "Yes, man."
—
"We’ve arrived mam," the driver announced. Felicia stepped down from the car and stared at the laboratory building. With a smile, she arranged her scarf to cover her face some more before she stepped inside the building.
After walking a few more steps, she arrived in front of a door and pushed it open. The man at the desk jolted in surprise before he demanded,
"Who are you and what are you doing here?"
Felicia slightly chuckled before she responded, "You don’t know who I am? You don’t recognize my voice?" She took slow steps towards the desk and dropped her purse on it before she continued. "You don’t recognize me?"
Felicia reached for her scarf and took it off, taking the man by surprise again.
"Felicia?" Mr Lee called.
"That’s right."
"W-what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be in jail or something and also, why have you come to meet me?" The man asked question after question.
After the day his wife found out about his affair with Felicia, she had been furious with him and filed for a divorce. But he loved his wife so much and pinned the blame on Felicia, saying she seduced him and all. But his wife, Mrs Lee was satisfied after she and her fellow women scarred Felicia’s face.
Mrs Lee had asked her husband to relocate to another city but the man would always refuse. Thankfully, one of his patients in New York had fallen sick again so he had to relocate. His wife saw it as an opportunity and never let him travel back to California. Ever since then, he worked in the laboratory, continuing his medical practices.
"I need your help," said Felicia before she covered her face with the scarf. She felt her blood boil when people stared at her scarred face.
Mr lee shook his head without the need to hear Felicia out. He didn’t want to be involved with this woman again because if his wife finds out, he’s going to be a divorced man.
"I don’t want to help you with anything Felicia, I don’t want to have a problem with my wife again, do you understand that?" he asked her, hoping she would simply nod her head and leave but he got the opposite reply.
Felicia scoffed at his words before she sat on the sofa, relaxing her butt on it before she released a sigh. When she saw Mr Lee still looking at her, she rolled her eyes at him and said,
"I don’t care about your wife or what she thinks. I’ve come to tell you my problems and you are going to help me with it."
"What if I say I don’t want to?" Mr Lee challenged. He didn’t want to risk his wife coming into his office to find the same woman he slept with countless times in his office. Looking at her scarred face up close, everything about her disgusted him. He couldn’t believe this was the same Felicia he’d enjoyed sleeping with, even more than his wife.
"If you don’t help me, I will go to your wife and bring back the anger she has towards you," she threatened. "I’m sure you wouldn’t want that," she added.
Mr Lee clenched his fist as he glared at her, wishing she would just disappear from earth. He’d tried to maintain his relationship with his wife after realizing his mistake and that was something he didn’t want to be ruined so easily. But Felicia won’t be able to find his wife’s working address, right? He thought to himself.
As if she’d just read his mind, Felicia said with a smile,
"Just like the way I found out about this address, I can also find out about your wife’s."
With teeth gnashing together, Mr Lee thought about it and was left with only one option, he had to help her with whatever she wanted.
"What do you want?" he questioned her.
Smiling triumphantly, she stood up from the chair and discussed what she wanted, which stunned Mr Lee.
"What did you say you wanted again?" He asked her to be sure he was hearing properly.
"I said I want acid, there’s someone I want to give it to as a gift," she casually replied as if the chemical age was requesting could be handed over to her so easily.
Rolling his hands through his hair, Mr Lee grunted in frustration.
"Do you even know what you are asking for? An acid, for what? For who?" Mr Lee questioned her.
Yes, he was a doctor and he’d come across such chemicals before but only through legal ways. If he were to be caught taking acid from the laboratory without a permit, his license to be a doctor would be revoked and he could lose his job and possibly be imprisoned as well.
When Felicia had said she needed his help, he’d thought she wanted money but acid. That was something he wasn’t sure he could do.
**
The footsteps of a man could be heard, walking until he got to a door. He opened the door and darkness greeted him. He stared into the dark room as if he could see and point to the locations of the furniture.
Sighing, the man casually walked towards the switch and flicked it. Lightness chased the darkness away from the room but unfortunately, it wasn’t bright enough to chase away the darkness in his heart.
Viper glared at the AC and wondered why the room was so hot when it was working.
He walked towards the king-sized bed that was placed in the center and slummed, his back hitting the soft cushion as he closed his eyes.
"That lady," he mumbled to himself. "They look so alike," he added with a sigh.
Opening his eyes, he stared at the ceiling that stared back at him. "Why can’t I get her out of my mind?" he continued.
Since his eyes laid on Erika, he couldn’t drive her out of his thoughts. After going to the club to drink a few bottles so that he could get drunk and drown himself in his sorrow after seeing his late wife in Erika, he stopped at the second bottle and thought it would be better to think with a clear mind.
Fetching his phone from his pocket, he googled Erika Walters. Erika’s pictures were displayed and his eyes widened in disbelief at the resemblance she had with his late wife.
Viper never went to the internet if it wasn’t to search for ’work’ related information he needed to acquire so he was surprised when he saw her face.
"This is impossible," he spouted out with a big frown that made his forehead fold. He couldn’t believe what he was saying. Did his wife reincarnate into another person’s body?
After scrolling through more pictures, he stopped at a single one that was taken of her when she collected an award for the Walters corporation back in California. His pupils dilated as his eyes scanned the red dress she wore at that award show.
When he realized he was staring into his phone too much, he turned it off and threw it away.
"This shouldn’t be happening to me," he mumbled. "My heart should only be racing this fast for Emma, what’s wrong with me?" He questioned himself.
