Chapter 173: BET
Erika woke up to find herself in a room, a bedroom to be specific. She had expected to find herself in a warehouse or an alley after she turned unconscious, but a bedroom?
"Where am I?" She thought out loud. Taking slow steps towards the windows, she placed her hands on the soft curtains to move them apart and see the environment but frowned deeply when the only thing she saw was light.
"I thought this was the sun," she mumbled again. "Gosh, why can’t I remember anything?" She asked herself again while she tried to close her eyes and focus until it dawned on her.
She was heading to her room to fetch Monica’s flowers when that unknown man suddenly walked up to her and placed a handkerchief on her nose. Her heart thumped faster in her chest when she realized that she had been kidnapped, again.
"But who could be behind this?" She muttered under her breath.
Erika started walking around to look for the door but nothing. There was no door, neither was there any window that she could use to escape. Feeling scared, she called, "Ethan!" but there was no answer.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of keys. Someone was trying to open the door, she thought to herself. But since there was no door, how could the person enter?
The wall near the curtain suddenly moved, creating a space, like when a door is opened. The figure of a man who wore a black suit walked inside and grinned at her, "Hello, Erika," Adrian called her.
Erika’s heart skipped multiple beats out of fear when she saw the familiar face and heard the familiar voice. "Adrian?"
"Long time no see, did you miss me, sweety?" He asked her as the grin continued to dance on his lips. He scanned her with his eyes before he licked his lips which disgusted Erika. She had never in her wildest dreams believed that Adrian could be capable of kidnapping her.
Realizing that she had been scared of Adrain a second ago made her clench her fist tightly as she demanded, "Why did you bring me here?"
Adrian dramatically held his chest as if he was going to die at any minute. "Easy there, don’t be angry at me for reaching this length. I asked you to remarry me before, right? But what did you say?" He asked her. "You said that you were already married to Ethan right? But it was a lie, you lied to me," he wiped some invisible tears from his eyes which made Erika wonder if he was going crazy.
When Adrain noticed Erika glaring at him, he decided to stand straight.
"Take me back to where you took me from," she demanded with a plain expression which meant she wasn’t here for laughs.
"But I can’t do that, Erika. And do you want to know what the reason is?" He asked as he took slow steps towards her, making Erika glare harder at him as if daring him to come any closer. "It’s because I want to be with you," he confessed and leaned in to smell her hair.
Out of disgust, Erika pushed him away and he fell to the ground.
"You have no right to say those words to me, Adrian. Do you even have a single ounce of shame left in you?" She questioned him and immediately, she moved to another side to be as far away from him as possible.
Adrian chuckled, "There is nothing shameful about confessing to my ex-wife that I love her," he said.
Erika pretended to not hear his confession and demanded again, "Take me out of here."
"I don’t want to," he replied with a shrug.
Frustrated, Erika dashed towards the wall that Adrian had just used to enter the room but unfortunately for her, it was already locked.
Hitting her palm hard on the wall, Erika screamed, "HELP!! SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE!!"
Adrain erupted with laughter as he rolled on the clean floor, making her even more annoyed than she already was.
"Did you think that I would let you go just like that?" He asked her with raised eyebrows and an amused smirk on his lips. "Don’t you get it? This will be your new home from now on, Erika. Our new home", he said.
"You must be crazy to think that I will be here for long," she spat at his face. "I would love to see that smile on your face disappear when Ethan finds me and beats you up," she added salt to his wounds as she smirked at him but instead of seeing his smirk falter, it only grew, which confused her.
Even though she had no clue about where she was, she wouldn’t let herself be drowned in his lies.
"Ethan? Do you mean Ethan Anderson? Late Ethan Anderson?" he asked her with raised eyebrows.
"Late?" Erika’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of ’late’. "What do you mean ’late’?" she questioned him, ready to unleash her anger on him at that moment.
Adrian chuckled lightly before he replied slowly, "It’s simple, my darling Erika. Ethan Anderson is no more."
Erika stared at Adrian for a few seconds before she burst out laughing. "You think that you can scare me so easily? You want me to believe that Ethan is dead, huh? You must be crazy to say such a thing."
"If that’s how you see it, then why don’t we make a bet? You will stay here with me for a week and Ethan still wouldn’t show up here," he offered, his voice holding confidence and seriousness.
Why did he get this amount of confidence from? Erika wondered to herself. For him to sound so assured that Ethan wouldn’t be able to find her for a week suddenly made her wonder if she should accept the bet or not. She didn’t lose her faith in believing his words. Ethan isn’t dead, she repeated in her mind several times.
