Chapter 171: DETONATOR
When Adrian noticed that Erika’s eyes were about to close, he revealed a triumphant smirk under his mask. Erika’s body went limp and he quickly lifted her in his arms.
Outside, Ethan looked around but couldn’t spot Erika’s shadow anywhere.
"Where’s Erika?" he questioned Felix.
Felix also checked around and said, "I did recall my mother asking her to retrieve the flowers. That was quite a while ago."
With his brows furrowed into a frown, Ethan excused himself to go look for Erika.
He started by searching for her in her room but he couldn’t find her anywhere. He checked the kitchen where his mother, Mrs Anderson was, instructing the waiters on what to serve first and second.
"Mom, did you see Erika pass by here?" he asked her.
The elder woman went into some thought, trying to recall if she had seen Erika before she shook her head, "No, why?"
"I can’t find her anywhere," he replied with a worried filled tone.
Without waiting for his mother to ask him any other questions, Ethan vanished from there and tried to find Erika.
On the other side, Adrian still had the unconscious Erika in his arms as he waited for the right time to leave from there. When he recognized one of his men disguised as one of the security guards, he gave him some hand signals, asking if the others were done doing what they were expected to do.
When he received a nod as a reply, he smirked again under his mask. The front gate of the mansion would have been nearly empty if not for the original security guards who roamed around the place.
Adrian spotted several other men who looked like security guards. When they noticed that their second boss had finally gotten the woman whom they had come to abduct, they brought out the knives that they had hidden in their pockets and slithered the throats of the security men, ending their lives. Blood spilled on the ground but that wasn’t important as of the moment. They needed to live before the woman was noticed to be missing.
Since there was no one to stop them anymore, Adrian got out of his hiding spot and quickly, they ran out of the mansion and headed to the van that was parked outside.
As they ran, Adrian noticed the dead gatemen but he didn’t care about their lives. When they successfully reached the van, he dropped Erika inside and one of the men handed him a detonator with a big red button in the center.
"Are you sure that you set the bombs correctly?" he asked them.
"Yes boss," replied one of them. "We’d set them mostly around the courtyard and hopefully, you might be able to successfully get rid of Ethan Anderson when you press that detonator," he added.
"That’s good."
Adrian stared at the mansion where everyone had a worried face.
"Try calling her phone," Felix suggested as his face was also filled with worry about what could have happened to his sister.
"I’ve tried that several times," Ethan replied with an irritated tone.
"Oh, about that," said Jasmine. "Erika’s phone is actually with me. She gave it to me earlier since she was busy," she added.
"Okay, her phone is with you but where is she?" Daniel asked with a confused look.
Suddenly, Ethan left the group of people and headed towards the main entrance.
"Something’s not right," he mumbled under his breath. His heart skipped several beats in fear at the thought that Erika could be in danger.
Reaching the main entrance, he noticed the slithered throats of the hired security men. With a big frown on his face, he rushed to check their pulse but it was already too late.
He looked around the mansion until he saw a van and was able to recognize a familiar figure sitting inside.
All of a sudden, his phone vibrated in his hand. Raising it to his face, he glared at the unknown number first before he picked it up.
"Ethan Anderson, how do you feel to know that the woman you love has been snatched away from me?" Adrian questioned from the other side.
Ethan’s grip on the phone tightened at the thought that Erika was with Adrian.
Adrian on the other hand was enjoying the irritated look on Adrian’s face. He stared at Erika who was still asleep and lifted her to rest on his chest.
"Look how good we look together," he added.
With gritted teeth and rage in his eyes, Ethan tried to demand,
"Bring her back here."
He received a chuckle from the other side first before he heard Adrian speak,
"Bring her back? She is mine and there is nothing that you can do about it. You see this detonator in my hands?" Adrian waved the detonator so that Ethan could see the bright red button on it. "After I press this button, you will be no more", he added.
With eyes wide open and lips parted in surprise, Ethan attempted running towards the van but halted when he heard the warning that came out from Adrian’s mouth,
"If you move even an inch, I will make sure that all of your family members will turn into roasted meat."
"Why are you doing all of this?" Adrian questioned.
"Don’t you still get it?" Adrian questioned back with a smirk. "You stole the woman I love from me. You waited until we divorced so that you could take her away from me, wasn’t that your plan from the beginning? I’ve simply taken back what belonged to me, Ethan."
The maniac’s laughter suddenly erupted from the phone and Ethan just wished that he could smash the phone on the ground.
"You really thought that those men you sent would be able to follow me 24/7 and I wouldn’t notice it?" he asked with a tone of mockery. "I simply misled them into thinking that I was just going to the club and there was nothing to it.
