Chapter 163: ACCUSED CHEATING
Lots of thoughts and possibilities flooded Erika’s head to the extent she started to feel dizzy. Ethan noticed it and pulled her towards him so that she could lean her head on his chest.
When the news finished, the channel was changed to something else and the whole room suddenly turned quiet. Everyone turned to the couple that was behind them and wondered if Felicia was coming after Erika or if she only escaped so that she could be together with her husband.
"I wonder where she might have gone to now," said Michael.
The whole family also thought about the same thing. If only they knew that Adrian was also in the same city as them.
It was as if all of their solved problems had decided to come take revenge on her.
In the underground gambling, Adrian was in the boss’s office, watching the same news about the runaways before the intensity of his glare deepened as if wanting to make the TV explode. He couldn’t believe that Felicia and his stepmother could be brave enough to escape from the prison. He had wanted the both of them to rot in there but it seems he would have to keep them away from seeing Erika since a part of him is telling him that they have plans up on their sleeves.
When Viper, the boss, noticed the frown on Adrian’s face, he glanced at the TV before he questioned,
"Are you planning on making my TV shut down or something? Why are you glaring at it like that? Or are you glaring at the people there? Do you know them?"
Despite being asked several questions at the same time and not being given the chance to answer a single one, Adrian wanted to keep his cool and not lash out at Viper.
"That’s my wife and stepmother," he replied as he pointed at Felicia and Mary, totally clueless about the other woman. Though he hadn’t divorced Felicia yet, he already wished he had so that she wouldn’t come to him and force him to take responsibility for a child that wasn’t his.
"Wife huh?" Viper asked in an amused tone. He stared at the TV again before he continued to ask, "But why was she in jail? And also, why would she escape from jail?" He waited for an answer. Adrian glanced at Viper before he replied,
"She cheated on me. She slept with so many men and she deceived me into divorcing my other wife, Erika."
His tone when he mentioned Erika’s name was softer, compared to when he called the other ex-wife, Viper thought to himself.
"I missed a better woman who truly loved me deeply because of her. I loved Felicia so much but all I got from her was only betrayal. She got pregnant by one of those men and is trying to ping it on me. She thinks she’s probably smart but I will never take responsibility for that bastard child," he continued to rant out his frustration towards his wife.
Juliet had suggested doing a blood test after the baby had been born but he felt too disgusted to even attempt it. He was certain that he wasn’t the father and his main goal was snatching Erika back from Ethan. And not some stupid blood test that was going to prove the same thing he already had in mind.
Viper could sense the hatred Adrian had towards his wife but he wasn’t interested in finding out more. He simply changed the topic, "Are you interested in playing more games tonight?"
Adrian tore his eyes away from the TV and stared at Viper, "Yes boss."
The both of them walked inside the room where the games were taking place. Since it was almost evening time, the club had opened and players had filled the whole place. Some of the people stared at Adrian with jealous eyes while some people wished him luck since he was standing so close to the boss. Something that never lasted in the business since everyone would betray him and they would all end up dead.
Adrian had only arrived the other day but he had been winning constant games and not losing a single one. Many wanted to learn from him while others just wished they could rob him of all his wins since he robbed them of theirs.
As usual, when a game started, Adrian was the one to win. The opponent became so offended that he sprang up from his seat and accused,
"He cheated!"
Everyone paused their games to watch the commotion that was going to occur at table 7, the table where Adrian and his opponent were.
"He fucking cheated!" the opponent yelled out of frustration again. The money he had lost in the betting was a lot, 3 million dollars and he wanted his money back. The others who didn’t approve of Adrian and his wins immediately agreed to the accusations.
Even though they had only lost hundreds of thousands of dollars, losing to a rookie hurt their ego.
"What are you talking about?" Adrian questioned the opponent with a frown. "You were here when we played the game right? Did you see me do anything?"
"He is a cheat, Salvador. He probably hid some of the cards or changed something in it," accused one of the envious men.
Mr Salvador, the opponent, glared at Adrian for having the guts to speak back to him. Mr. Salvador was a man who was related to politics, earning millions of dollars every month just so he could squander it in the underground gambling.
Just as he plays a lot and wins a lot, he didn’t appreciate it when someone did the same to him. And now, a rookie like Adrian had been able to rob him of his 3 million dollars. He had never lost that amount of money before, never. And what other way could he have been able to do that if not cheating? Mr Salvador thought to himself as his eyes glared at Adrian ferociously. Red, as if all he wanted was bloodshed at the moment.
"Okay," Adrian said as he brought his hands forward, making a ’calm down’ gesture with it before he continued. "I’m telling you, I didn’t cheat. And besides, why would I even do that when I am already a pro in this game?" He questioned Mr Salvador.
"You are not a pro at anything!" Mr Salvador barked. "You only won those games because you cheated, nothing else," he concluded.
