Chapter 132: CHANGE OF LIFE
In California, along the alleys of the dark streets of a remote area, many crimes have been committed. The police officers paraded the area to be sure that there weren’t any suspicious things going on before they moved in another direction. They had chased a bunch of criminals from the center of the city to this abandoned alley that had uncompleted buildings around it.
A bunch of thieves who hid behind a dumpster and were not detected by the police officers slowly and steadily came out one after the other. After the first person came out, he went on a lookout before he declared, "Coast is clear".
The other thieves nodded at him and brought out the heavy bags that they had used to rob the bank. There were about three bags and there were 5 thieves, including the one who declared that the coast was clear.
"Are you sure that the coast is clear?" One of the thieves who was holding a bag full of money questioned the first one. All of them wore black masks so as to not be identified. "That was what you said the last time and we were nearly caught".
The first one removed his black mask out of frustration and glared at the other thief. "I said the coast is clear which means the coast is clear. Don’t you understand English anymore, dammit?" Adrain questioned out of irritation.
Since Adrain had not been able to pay back the remaining millions of dollars that he owed after selling the mansion at such a cheap price, he had to sell his house also but still wasn’t enough for him to pay back the $100 million he owes.
Adrain didn’t have anyone else. All his business friends whom he had gone to ask for help had all forsaken him with the excuse that they were also having some financial problems at their hands and they couldn’t lend him anything at the moment which was a total lie after the news regarding his family and the crimes his mother and wife committed.
Adam Hart had already woken up from his coma and Adrain narrated everything that had happened amid his comatose state, the old man suddenly became too angry and yelled at Adrian with all of his might. He ended up having a stroke and is now permanently paralyzed. He couldn’t speak or move, he could only sleep and wake up. Adrain managed to admit him to a hospital for the elderly. He would occasionally visit his father but he noticed the angry look his old man would always give him. Ever since that day, Adrain had never dared to step foot in the hospital to go see his father again.
As far as he knew, his stepmother was still in jail and had been sentenced to life imprisonment after the case was taken to court. Erika had made sure that Mary had paid for her crimes and now the old woman was rotting in jail just as she had promised, which was the news he received from his lawyer.
Juliet had disappeared, there were no traces of her anywhere. After the day since his father had entered into a comatose state, he could not reach out to her anymore. When their father had woken up, he had tried to contact her but she was unreachable.
As for Felicia, he had forgotten about his ex-wife. He didn’t care about her nor was he interested in the baby.
Adrain’s life had turned upside down for the worse and he chose to live it the way it had served itself to him. The police had been ordered by the bank to chase after him after he suddenly disappeared without completing his balance. And the only option left for him was to steal and pay up as fast as he could. He had been in the business for almost five months now but since they were five people, the money needed to be split equally, leaving him with not enough money.
"Am I the one you are talking to like that? Don’t forget that I am the one who brought you into this business", the leader questioned as he pushed Adrain on his chest. "Learn your manners", he ordered.
"That’s enough. Y’all are going to alert the cops if you don’t stop", one of the gang members reminded him. Adrian had his face bowed before he wore his mask again.
He was only enduring this for the meantime as he had already planned on how he was going to run away with the money that they had stolen.
The leader of the gang glared at Adrain who had already worn his mask before carrying one of the money-filled bags. "Let’s go", he ordered and the others nodded.
They came out of the dark alley and moved to hide behind a fence. One by one, they all climbed the fence to enter another dark alley.
Since the whole place was dark and it was already nighttime, they didn’t notice the dog that was on the property.
As soon as they all entered the yard, the dog started barking as loud as it could, bringing the police’ attention to the alley.
"Shit! Who put their dog here?", one of the gang members cursed in annoyance. The dog immediately ran towards them and growled at them as if warning them to go back to where they came from. Suddenly, the dog bit into the leg of the gang member who just spoke, causing him to yell in pain.
"AHHH!!" The criminal yelled out loud. "The dog has got my foot, get it off", he cried out in pain. The others immediately tried to separate his leg which the dog had suddenly found delicious.
The other four immediately turned on their flashlights to see the dog.
"Who is there?" A voice suddenly asked them as they could see the other flashlight that was not too far from them. "I asked who was there?" the person repeated.
The other criminals tried as much as they could but the dog’s grip on their gang member’s legs was too tight. "Will you f*cking let him go already?!" the leader yelled at the dog in annoyance.
"That dog is gonna kill me", the criminal who was being bitten by the dog cried. He grabbed the head of the dog and tried to push it away but it bit him more deeper.
"Shut up!" The leader yelled again.
