Chapter 130: RETURNED
’What sort of change of environment?’ Mr. Davis wondered to himself with a big frown evident on his face.
"But he is tutoring Jasmine", Mr. Davis objected. The Andersons couple gave each other a look before Mrs Anderson spoke,
"Yeah, but Jasmine has improved in her studies so there’s no need for Ethan to tutor her anymore. Besides, Jasmine is a good girl and she learns quickly. It’s not like she can magically forget everything that had been taught to her by Ethan."
Mr. Davis didn’t care about the words Mrs. Anderson was spouting but if he dragged the matter, they might start suspecting him so he simply dropped it.
"Alright," he said.
At the library where Ethan mostly taught Jasmine, the girl wrote down the formulas as tears dropped from her eyes.
Ethan noticed a tear fall from Jasmine’s eyes and he asked, "Hey, why are you crying?"
Jasmine wiped her tears before she spoke,
"I overheard Aunty and Uncle saying that you will be going abroad to continue your studies", Ethan nodded. "But what about me?"
Ethan frowned, "what about you?"
"I want to go with you", she confessed. "I will be here all alone if you leave", more tears streamed down her face.
"Of course you can come but you are not old enough to reach my grade", Ethan explained. "Don’t worry, I will try not to take too long".
"You promise?"
"I won’t promise but I will try", he replied and the girl stopped crying.
Years passed and there was still no sign of Ethan. At the Davis mansion, Jasmine heard a car honk and abruptly sprang up from her seat to see if Ethan had already arrived but her shoulders slumped in disappointment when she saw her father stepping down from the car.
When Mr Davis saw Jasmine standing at the door, he beckoned her towards him.
"Good day, Dad", she greeted and her father smiled at her.
"You are waiting for Ethan again?" He asked her and she blushed. "Don’t worry, he will be returning next week and when he does, we will discuss your marriage with him".
Jasmine’s eyes immediately lit up when she heard that Ethan would be returning soon, "Really Dad?" She asked and the old man nodded.
"Of course. I just spoke with his father and he agreed because Ethan never mentioned anything about bringing any girlfriend back with him so he is still single", he announced and the girl couldn’t be happier.
When Ethan finally arrived from the airport, the driver drove him to another mansion which he was unfamiliar with but after reading the golden plate attached to the gate, he realized that it was the new mansion of the Andersons.
In the living room of the mansion, the Davis and Walters family were all gathered to celebrate his return. His eyes scanned through the people but he never found the person he was looking for.
All of a sudden, a petite girl jumped on him and squeaked, "Ethan! I miss you so much".
Alarmed, Ethan aggressively pulled the lady off his body to look at her face. "What’s wrong?" Jasmine asked him.
"Who are you?" He questioned her with a glare.
Jasmine felt her heart drop into her stomach when Ethan glared at her. Does he not recognize me? she thought to herself.
Feeling the tension that suddenly rose at the celebration, Mr Davis quickly went to them and joked,
"Ethan has been away for so long that he doesn’t Jasmine".
"He must be thinking that a lady wanted to frame him or something, I mean, did you see the look on his face?" Mr Anderson added and everyone laughed but Ethan didn’t find anything funny.
Ethan faced Jasmine and apologized,
"I’m sorry for...." he drawled so that she could complete the sentence.
"No, I am sorry for jumping on you like that", said Jasmine. "So how was your trip?" She asked and Ethan responded with a brief nod before walking away to greet his parents and the other guests, leaving Jasmine to stand by herself.
Surprised, Jasmine felt slightly upset about the snub but she tried to relax by telling herself that he had just arrived and he needed rest.
Mr Davis went to his daughter’s side and asked,
"He has grown to be a handsome man now hasn’t he?"
"Yes Dad", she agreed with a blush evident on her cheeks.
"Everyone, I would like to make an announcement please", said Mr. Anderson and everyone immediately stopped chattering so that they could hear him. "First of all, I am glad that my son, Ethan, has finally returned after so many years of being away from home and now that he is back. I announce that I will be stepping down as the CEO of the Anderson Corp, giving my son the chance to take over", he said and everyone cheered happily. "Secondly, I would like to announce that my son will be getting engaged to Jasmine Davis. The Davis and Andersons will be a joined family", again, the guests cheered happily while a particular person’s face held a dark storm.
Ethan pulled his father from the stage and questioned, "Why would you do that Dad? I never agreed to get married to anyone, most especially Jasmine".
Mr Anderson chuckled before answering,
"But you didn’t bring any girl with you so you must like Jasmine".
Ethan frowned deeply at his father, "I am not getting married to Jasmine", he concluded and left the celebration.
Jasmine noticed him walking away and intended to follow him but her father held her back.
"Don’t worry, he might not agree with it now but later, he is going to give in", he assured her before walking over to Mr Anderson who was staring at Ethan’s back view until he finally disappeared. "He is probably tired", said Mr. Davis, gaining Mr. Anderson’s attention.
Sighing, Mr. Anderson replied, "I just hope he doesn’t have any rejection towards the engagement".
"Am sure he doesn’t", said Mr. Davis.
