Chapter 504: Chapter 284: The World Is Helping Me? I’ve Gotten Stronger.
Fang Zhen’s purpose for entering the instance was to acquire equipment and enhance his other abilities.
This meant he would inevitably have to deal with Divine Rune Masters. From that perspective, Yak’s identity was a better fit for his needs.
Besides, he wasn’t here to experience life; rising up from the bottom was far too slow.
After some thought, Fang Zhen decided to choose Yak.
He moved the mouse over the name "Yak Klauren," and a dialog box instantly popped up, displaying a portrait that bore a slight resemblance to Fang Zhen’s own face.
Fang Zhen clicked "Confirm."
A peculiar sensation washed over him. Fang Zhen felt a warmth on his face, as if a layer of energy was covering it.
He picked up his phone, used the front-facing camera to take a picture of his face, and saw that the photo still showed his own face.
Fang Zhen put down his phone and thought for a moment.
’Since I’m using a phone, this should be an objective photograph.’
’If other people in the instance see a different face, then it might be similar to the mystical language talent—some kind of mysterious power altering my appearance.’
Fang Zhen got ready. After equipping all of his weapons, gear, and armor, he activated the Light Gate device.
This time, he primarily equipped the Sun-shooting Longbow. His AWP sniper rifle was almost out of ammunition. The next time he needed to stock up on bullets, he would have to make a trip to America, but there was no rush.
In a way, the Sun-shooting Longbow could temporarily fill the role of the AWP.
After returning from the Divine Rune Realm this time, he might make a trip to America or Africa to restock on replacement equipment and ammunition.
Plus, now that he had more personal storage space, he could also consider acquiring equipment with greater firepower.
Fang Zhen opened the Light Gate and walked through.
Fang Zhen entered the Light Gate and felt a wave of disorientation. When he came to his senses, he found himself in the ruins of a town.
The town, or perhaps small city, was engulfed in flames. Wooden houses blazed fiercely, lighting up half the sky. The air was scorching hot, making it difficult to even breathe.
In the firelight, numerous corpses could be seen littering the town’s roads, along with a type of small, black monster.
These little monsters were about half the height of a human and were entirely black. They were covered in tough, shell-like armor and had demonic ears and fangs. They looked very similar to the Little Demons from video games.
Amidst the flames, Fang Zhen felt no discomfort. On the contrary, he felt a warmth in his heart and a power boiling in his blood—his Heart of Flames had activated.
In this blazing inferno, all of his abilities were enhanced.
Even his sense of smell was significantly heightened in the fire. His Perception was already at 18 points.
Although he had not yet reached the Extraordinary level, his sensitivity to smells and the like had risen to a very high degree.
He sniffed the air and caught an unusual scent of sulfur amidst the flames. It seemed to be directional, growing stronger as he faced a particular direction.
’The smell of sulfur... If I’m not mistaken, demons carry this scent.’
Guessing there might be demons ahead, Fang Zhen gripped his Thunder Spear, summoned his Red Hare Warhorse, and rode swiftly in that direction.
Fang Zhen hadn’t traveled far when he saw a massive estate ahead. The estate seemed particularly large for a town of this size, almost out of place.
Outside the courtyard, a group of thirty to forty black creatures were chittering noisily, continuously throwing condensed fire arrows into the compound.
The fire arrows had no physical form and were purely condensed from flames, yet they could be shot in a parabolic arc just like real arrows.
As these fire arrows flew into the courtyard, they were met with a series of terrified screams.
They were the voices of women and children.
There were also the curses of men, filled with rage.
But it seemed they were short on manpower, as they didn’t open the gate and were instead resisting from within.
On the battlements of the large estate, a few human soldiers could be seen standing high up, shooting arrows down at the monsters below.
From their vantage point, they could also see Fang Zhen.
Upon seeing Fang Zhen appear, someone let out a cry of alarm. Those with good eyesight were watching him closely, unsure if he was friend or foe.
Fang Zhen scanned the area and saw that the black monsters were all Little Demons, just like the ones he had seen among the corpses earlier.
However, he had examined the corpses of those demons before; their muscle tissue was extremely dense, so one could imagine their strength was anything but ordinary.
And many of the human bodies he had seen were disemboweled. This meant that the strength in these Little Demons’ hands, combined with their sharp claws, could rip a person completely open if they pierced their abdomen.
But Fang Zhen was fearless.
All fear stems from a lack of firepower, and Fang Zhen himself was a walking piece of human artillery.
He suddenly let out a loud shout to boost his own morale.
He yelled, "Thunder!" and simultaneously infused his Thunder Spear with Source Power.
The Thunder Spear was theoretically supposed to be activated by Runic Power, but Fang Zhen was using his sublimated Source Power.
Once his Source Power surpassed 20 points, its efficiency seemed to have greatly improved. It could activate any item, regardless of the power type required—even the Thunder Spear.
