Chapter 283: Ch 283: Do we have a Solution?

A lot of excuses filtered through Rin’s mind, but one look at Shelly’s expression was enough to tell him that none of them would be good enough to convince her.

She wanted the truth and nothing else. So that was what he gave Shelly.

"I am not sure what you want me to say at this point. I am feeling fine right now, and I did get myself checked by Reina. My current condition is due to stress and nothing else. Once this task passes, I am sure I will go back to normal."

Rin assured Shelly with a smile, but she was not satisfied with his reply. In fact, she did not seem to believe his words.

Her eyes were dark as she looked him over with a detached expression.

"So, it is just stress and nothing else? Are you willing to bet your life on that?"

She asked, and Rin knew he was supposed to feel fear. But his life was already doomed. How was one more threat from Shelly supposed to make him feel scared?

His hands moved without his consent, and for a second he feared that the system was controlling him and trying to harm Shelly. But it was just his unconscious desire that made him place a hand on Shelly’s face and gently caress it.

"Shelly, I am fine. I can assure you that this is my best condition, and nothing will change that. So you don’t have to give me that worried expression."

Rin reassured Shelly, and she finally started to calm down a little.

"Tsk, I will choose to believe you this time. But that does not mean I am happy about it."

Finally, Shelly settled down, and Rin let out a sigh of relief.

Now it was time for him to send Shelly on her way and head toward Kyle and Mira’s room. It had been a few days, so he was sure they must have made some progress regarding his situation. They might be able to give him a few hints about how to deal with it.

"Shelly, go and rest before the next task. You are our secret weapon, and it is important for you to get some well-deserved rest."

Rin placed his hand on Shelly’s shoulder to emphasize his words. He gave it a gentle squeeze, and Shelly looked at his hand before sighing and nodding.

Even she knew that Rin was trying to distract her by saying all this. But she was also mature enough to play along and realize that he needed some time on his own.

"I will head back to my room now. But remember, you can come to me and talk if you ever feel like you need someone. I will never turn you away."

Shelly told him, and Rin nodded with a small smile on his face.

Finally, he turned around and headed toward the guest house.

Shelly noticed him heading in the wrong direction and opened her mouth to question him. But then she felt like something was wrong and decided to follow him anyway.

Unfortunately for her, she was stopped by Albus, who needed her help with training, and she lost sight of Rin.

Albus realized he had done something wrong when he saw Shelly’s angry expression, and he immediately tried to back down.

"You know, on second thought, I’m sure I don’t need your help. I can train on my own and—"

"It no longer matters. You wanted to train, right? Then we are going to train. Hurry up and come with me."

Poor Albus did not fare well that day, and by the end of his training, he had become much stronger.

But he had also developed a new phobia of pink-haired women named Shelly.

"Did you make any progress on the situation?"

Rin did not even bother knocking before walking into Mira and Kyle’s room. They were working on something and did not look surprised to see him.

"We are still working on it, but we have successfully come up with a few alternatives. We are thinking of using the next task to test the product."

Mira told him while continuing to work on her calculations.

Her news was not the best Rin had heard, but it was enough to make him feel a little better about the situation.

"That is nice. Would you care to tell me more about it?"

Rin asked, and Kyle shot him a panicked look.

Rin immediately understood why when Mira broke into a full-fledged rant about the situation.

"You have no idea how much work this thing is taking. But it is fun. It works on the nervous system and slowly eats away at it. The system is all pseudo-nervous system, and—"

Most of what she said went over Rin’s head, and he felt like he should not have asked her.

Kyle also looked like he was suffering, but at least he was far more knowledgeable about the topic than Rin.

Ultimately, Kyle decided to stop Mira’s rant and placed a hand on her shoulder to calm her down.

"Mira, that is enough. I don’t think Rin can keep up with how fast you’re explaining everything anyway."

Mira pouted as she looked at the uneducated pair in front of her. She let out a tired sigh, making it clear that she was annoyed at having to deal with people like them.

"I cannot believe my partners are such uneducated brats. You are both lucky that I am an empathetic person and willing to take the time to explain things even when you don’t understand what I’m saying. So listen closely—"

She broke into another rant, and Kyle sighed.

"There is no point in listening to her now. She won’t even notice if we leave. So let’s let her be. I’ll brief you on the progress we’ve made."

Kyle told Rin, and he was grateful for the help. Honestly, Kyle was the only reason he felt like he understood anything at all. And this time also, he did not disappoint.
