Chapter 262: Ch 262: Sealing the labs

Reina’s dark circles looked much more prominent than Rin recalled seeing them, and even her legs looked unsteady. She was walking around the place with a blank expression on her face.

In fact, Rin was willing to bet that she did not even notice him when she walked past him in the corridor, and he had to call out to her to remind her of his presence.

"Hey, are you alright? You look...tired..."

Rin did not want to offend Reina, so he chose the most neutral words he could find to address her.

But Reina just blinked at him with the same blank expression she had worn this whole time as she stared off into space.

It was difficult to tell if she had heard him or not, but she was clearly not answering his question. So he opened his mouth to ask Reina the same question again.

Only this time, he did not need to ask her because she snapped out of her daze and decided to answer his question.

"I am fine. I am just...a little more tired than I expected. There is no need for you to worry about my condition."

Reina tried to sound confident, but her voice sounded even more tired than before as she reassured Rin. Her eyelids threatened to close, and her body staggered forward, causing Rin to reach out and try to break her fall.

Thankfully, Reina caught herself in time, but she looked embarrassed that she had been caught like this by Rin.

"I don’t think swaying on your feet like that counts as being ’alright’ anymore."

Rin pointed out, and Reina let out a chuckle at his comment.

"You are right. But this is just because of a lack of sleep. There has been an influx of people in the settlement, and I am swamped with work because of it. Amelia is in a similar condition as well."

Reina assured Rin that it was nothing serious, and she did not seem to be lying. However, a part of Rin still felt unsettled after seeing Reina’s pale face.

"Alright. I will take your word for it since you are the doctor. Should I accompany you to your room for now?"

Rin asked, and Reina extended her hand toward him.

"It would be my honor to get escorted back by you, Rin. But only if you are not busy."

Rin was busy. He had a lot of paperwork to get through. But that could wait for now. His instincts were telling him that he should not let Reina out of his sight.

So he followed his instincts, and that turned out to be the right decision because Reina collapsed not even five minutes later.

One second, she was walking beside him, and the next, her legs buckled and she went down. Rin caught her in a panic and dragged her back to her office where Amelia was.

Amelia looked just as bad as Reina did, but she was at least not fainting due to extreme exhaustion.

"What happened—? Reina? Oh no! I told her to rest for now, but she did not listen. I will check up on her now."

Amelia quickly took charge of the situation as she grabbed Reina from Rin’s arms and immediately started to check up on her sister. There was fear on Amelia’s face that eased a little once she finished checking Reina.

"Thank god! It’s just exhaustion. I think she should be fine after some rest."

The younger medic looked like she was about to collapse herself, but she still prioritized Reina’s health.

But Rin was more interested in knowing how things had gotten this bad in the first place.

"Amelia, are there a lot of patients coming to you these days?"

He asked, and Amelia paused to think about it. Her mind seemed to be working slowly due to her exhaustion, and Rin felt sorry for her current state.

"Well, we do have more people and not enough hands on the medical side. Reina and I tried to recruit some people to help us out, but they snubbed us, saying that they wanted to focus on fighting because of the rewards. Not that we cannot handle the situation..."

Amelia trailed off, her eyes going hazy with sleep. She even let out a yawn but quickly suppressed it so as not to show her desire to lie down and fall asleep.

The root cause of this situation was clear in Rin’s eyes. It was the lack of help these two had in the medical wing.

Honestly, Rin felt like he was a fool for not seeing this coming until now. There were almost no people in the medical wing, and those who were assigned there quickly wanted to transfer to another division.

Even if Reina and Amelia were to teach some people their medical skills, they would not stick around for long to help them out.

The problem was clear, but as for the solution...Rin did not have one. Nor did he know how to help the medical wing.

Amelia noticed his concern, and she quickly flashed him a smile that told him that he did not have to worry about her or Reina.

"We will be fine. This is not the first burnout we have had to go through. Just make sure not to put us forward for anything dangerous, and we should be fine."

Amelia assured Rin, and he nodded. He had made up his mind about not using the two for the time being. Their workload in the field could be handled by someone else.

He also decided to stock up on the potion supply that was starting to run dry.

Rin started to wonder, only for the door to slam open and an entitled brat to enter. He looked around the room and immediately headed toward Amelia while holding out his hand.

There were a few cuts on it that did not look deep. But their placement seemed to make it difficult for him to do much.

"Hey, can you heal this for me? I need to do something important, and potions are expensive."

The man asked, and Rin watched Amelia sigh and reach out to heal him.
