Chapter 227: Ch 227: Starting Training
Rin felt aware that the system was saying a lot to him, but he was not in a condition to pay attention to what was being said.
The pain in his chest was slowly travelling up his body and toward his head, making his vision become blurry.
He could see the others shaking him with worried expressions and also asking among themselves what they should do. But there was nothing they could do for him at the moment.
"I-I am fine. Just let me lie down."
It was hard to force the words out and Rin felt Shelly picking him up and rushing him toward Reina’s office.
"Lay him down. I will check on him immediately."
Reina declared before she moved toward Rin and used her powers. She had a confused look on her face when she pulled back and Rin felt sorry for forcing her into such a situation.
"What’s wrong? What do the tests say?"
Shelly asked impatiently and Reina let out a loud curse.
"The results say nothing. Rin is supposed to be fine...however...let me try again."
There was clearly something wrong with him and Reina was going to get to the bottom of it. Her determination sparked clearly in her eyes, but all it served to do was make Rin feel sorry for her.
He reached out to touch her trembling hand with as much strength as he could muster.
"I am fine. There is...nothing you can do for me at the moment. So take a deep breath and relax."
Rin forced Reina to relax and hesitation sparked in her eyes before she did as she was told. He then looked at the others, forcing them to relax with his eyes.
The only one who did not comply was Shelly, but he had expected that.
"Rin, can you hear us? Are you alright?"
Teressa asked while moving toward his side. She looked wrecked, which made Rin feel sorry for her. So he patted her head to reassure her before he closed his eyes to relax a little.
"I am fine. This is not a natural disease, so I doubt you can heal it. I am just having a hard time mastering the new power the system gave me. So there is no need for you all to panic."
Rin assured the others and they started to relax after hearing that it was not something fatal but related to the system.
Somehow, the system had gained the trust of humanity in such a short time that they were even willing to rely on it and not question it.
The only one who doubted his words was Shelly, but even she chose not to say anything.
"So, you already know why you are sick?"
Reina asked and Rin nodded.
"I am not sick, but I just need some time. Meanwhile, you all should start preparing for the raid that is about to happen. We have no idea how long this task might take, so make sure you pack essentials in your inventory."
Rin told the others and they reluctantly nodded and followed his lead. They left Reina’s office one by one until only Reina, Shelly, and Teressa were left.
"Are you all not going to leave as well? You must have a lot to pack."
Rin pointed out but no one moved.
"I am fine. I have most of my stuff packed anyway."
"I also keep things in my inventory for emergencies. I am sure I am going to be fine."
Both Shelly and Teressa reassured him with straight faces. He could tell that they were not going to go away.
Usually, he wouldn’t have minded their company, but not today. He could feel his body breaking apart and he knew that it was not going to be a pretty sight.
He did not want his companions to see him in such a position, so he decided to send them back right away.
Sigh
"Alright, you can stay here. But I doubt I will be able to enjoy much company with people around. My senses are a little sensitive-"
"Looks like it’s time for us all to leave."
Reina got the hint and she immediately wrapped her arms around Shelly and Teressa to drag them out.
"Hey! What are you-"
Teressa tried to protest but she was dragged out before she could get another word out. As for Shelly? She did not say anything, but Rin had a feeling she would be back as soon as she could.
He kept a smile on his face as he watched them leave before letting out a sigh and focusing on the pain he had been suppressing all this time.
Rin finally allowed the pain to overtake him once more and his head as well as his heart felt like they were splitting apart.
[Core has started to germinate. Subject #00 Prime is evolving. The evolution will begin in 10 minutes.]
[New system functions will open. The subject’s connection with the main branch will strengthen.]
[Subject #00 Prime’s training will start now.]
Rin’s eyes felt heavy and he closed them slowly. He did not expect to wake up for some time.
...
It did not even take a full minute before Rin felt his eyes opening and he looked around him to see where he was.
The area looked blank without a single recognizable object in sight. White ate away at everything and Rin could not even see his legs when he looked down.
White smoke obstructed him from being able to move in a clear direction, so Rin decided to move in a random direction.
"What is this place?"
Rin questioned as he looked around, but there was no answer. However, he did feel a slight pulse and he decided to follow it.
He walked and walked until he finally started to notice a faint outline in the smoke. It belonged to a huge tree-like structure with transparent tube-like structures running all over it. The canopy of the tree was so huge that it disappeared into the white smoke.
There was no way to know how huge and wide the tree was or how much area it covered. But what Rin could tell was that he felt attracted to that entity and his feet carried him toward it.
"Isn’t this...the creature that caused the apocalypse? What am I doing here again?"
Rin questioned as he looked around but the system did not appear out of thin air to tell him what was happening.
But what did happen was the creature humming, and Rin instantly felt calm.
