Chapter 226: Ch 226: KPI Evolved

"So, how long will it take before I can participate in this game as well? And what kind of role are you going to assign me?"

Karina asked while she waited for Molly to finish her preparations.

She hated waiting but she was also an expert at it. Besides, she had been the one who asked for help here, so it was only right that she exercised patience.

"Give me a little time. I need to make a profile for you in the system’s file before I can add you. I still don’t understand why you need to participate in the first place."

Molly complained but decided to follow Karina’s words.

She was mostly doing this because she knew Karina’s temper. If she did not help her, then she would make things difficult for her.

Molly’s experiment was at a crucial stage where she could not let others interfere. So if helping Karina kept her out of her hair, then she would do it anyway.

However...

"Oi! Remember your promise. Do not mess with my experiment. And don’t kill Rin accidentally either. As long as you follow these two rules, I don’t care what else you do."

Molly told Karina and she let out a small laugh.

"Don’t worry. I have no desire to touch your precious...resources. I want the system to grow just as much as you want. As for Rin...that might be a little difficult but I think I can manage not to kill him."

Karina admitted and Molly tensed. But she knew that this was the best she was going to get from someone like Karina.

"I feel sorry for your daughter. Not only was she born to such a twisted mother, but she also inherited your nature. And now, she has her mother after her life as well. Talk about tragedy."

Molly tried to get a rise out of Karina, but the female in question only let out another laugh.

"You are right. It is rather tragic for her. But what can we do? We cannot choose our fate or where we are born. And in her case, she was born as a way for me to help my love. Now it is time for her to fulfil her promise."

Molly did not care what Karina did. But she did feel sorry for the kid who was not even cared for by her mother.

Not that the kid seemed to question it or feel bad about it.

’What a mother-daughter pair. Well, not that it is any of my business.’

Karina looked around her lab a little more before she looked at Molly. She walked toward Molly and wrapped her arms around the younger-looking one’s shoulder in a half-hug.

"So, what are the plans for the next task?"

Molly sighed as she looked at the details.

"It’s a demon king’s castle raid. It is supposed to be fairly simple, so I decided to add more obstacles in the humans’ way. It will help distract them and allow you time to catch up with your daughter. I’ve assigned you as the demon king’s immortal lackey so good luck."

Molly told Karina and the pink-haired scientist let out a giggle.

"I don’t need luck. All I need is my darling~ Ah finally! I can see that the end is close. My darling will finally open his eyes and acknowledge my love for him. I cannot wait for it."

Molly just shook her head at Karina’s behavior before she went back to her planning. Just a little more and this round will be ready.

Rin felt a little worried as he looked at the system screen. The task looked fairly standard but that red flash made him tense up.

’Why did the system act like that? Was it some kind of warning? But why were there no messages?’

Rin wanted answers, but unfortunately, even the system seemed a little slow today. All it told Rin was that there was no need to worry because his safety was guaranteed during the next task.

The lack of information was frustrating but nothing new for Rin. Besides, if the system was telling him that he did not need to worry, was there a reason for him to feel like this...

’I am truly too dependent on the system. I have no reason to believe it, but I still find myself wanting to follow its guidance. I better snap out of it and fast...’

The time for the demon king’s emergence was coming fast.

There was a timer in the system to show when the demon king’s castle would emerge and the pillars were already visible.

It was emerging from the ground and the area where it was going to appear had already been evacuated.

"Sir, we can see the first wave already. What would you like us to do? Should we attack early to gain the upper hand?"

Collin asked and Rin nodded.

"Let’s enter the demon king’s castle as soon as we are able to. Send the first unit and tell them to clear out as many monsters as they can. What about Lady Yao? Did you get any news from her?"

Rin asked but Collin shook his head.

"Unfortunately, Lady Yao has not replied to our messages. For now, it would be for the best if we prepare without her."

This would make things difficult for them, but Rin had more than enough people to make up for the difference.

’I need to finish this task quickly so that I can finally hold Serena’s funeral. I did not even tell her camp what happened because I have not had the time yet. Now I have even more reason to come back safe and sound.’

The butler was still waiting for Rin to dismiss him and Rin nodded to show Collin that he could leave.

Rin was finally alone and he felt his chest burning. The place where the core had been absorbed felt abnormally hot.

"This pain..."

[Your body is trying to absorb the core.]

[Result: Human body is incompatible with the energy of the core]

[Result: Body reconstruction will start. Your KPI will be adjusted and evolved with new conditions. Please make sure to read the new conditions stated in your KPI]

[Conditions for evolution have been achieved.]

[New KPI unlocked: Absorb 10 Cores and evolve into a higher being. Time limit: None]

[Cores absorbed : 1/10]

[A new path has opened up in front of you. This system will prepare to welcome its new master soon.]
