Chapter 212: Ch 212: An unseen Road Block

Shelly was annoyed at the new roadblock in her way. The girl in front of her was unfamiliar, but she had to admit that her combat abilities were the real deal.

She was swiftly dodging anything Shelly threw at her and even throwing a few punches of her own into the mix.

But Shelly refused to back down. She needed to get to Rin as soon as possible.

So she pulled out her sword and decided to go for a feint attack. She did not use her powers until the last moment to increase the range of her attack. That way, even if Mira dodged it, there was a better chance of catching her by surprise and hitting her.

It seemed to work, but Mira somehow managed to dodge the attack at the last second.

"Oh! That was a scary attack. It was a good thing I saw it coming. Otherwise, that would have taken me out for sure."

Mira sounded impressed as she blocked another surprise attack from Shelly.

Shelly was faster than Mira, but she still was not able to land a hit on her. Every time she got close, Mira found a way to dodge at the last possible second.

It was frustrating and felt unfair. But Shelly had no way of knowing how this kept happening.

"Are you angry that I keep dodging you? Do you want to know how I am doing it? The answer is simple—I am able to see it all. I can tell what you are planning to do and how you will do it. For example, the next feint attack—"

Mira dodged the attack, and Shelly felt herself lose her balance. That made her fall flat on her ass, but she was able to dodge Mira’s counterattack at the very last second.

It was clear that Mira had no intention of killing her. But it was also hard to figure out what she wanted.

’Is she...trying to distract me? But for what?’

Shelly quickly caught on to Mira’s intentions, but she could not figure out why. The only reason she could think of was—

"Rin..."

Mira’s face turned to one of surprise.

"Ah, now that I did not see coming. But I don’t think I should be that surprised. After all, you are the biological daughter of a woman who is willing to end the world for the man she loves. She even went as far as having you naturally, even when her partner was unconscious. I guess the Wheel family is messed up in the head—"

Shelly did not care about her mother’s love life, nor did she want to hear about the disgusting things her mother had done with her father’s body.

After all, it was none of her business.

Shelly did not care about anyone or anything if it was not related to Rin.

"Looks like you are not interested in your mother at all. It must run in the family since your mother did not care about you either."

"Are you done talking? You are yapping so much that I almost fell asleep. Now, tell me why you are here and what you want."

Shelly asked in a clear voice, and Mira let out a chuckle.

"Fine, I will tell you why I am here. The reason is simple—I am here to stall you so that my team leader can talk to yours. Is that a good enough reason for you—"

Mira was still talking when Shelly decided to attack her. She did not even give Mira a chance to process what was happening before her sword sliced through empty air.

"This is so rude of you. All I am trying to do is talk, but you are attacking me outright. It seems like we are not compatible. So you should take a rest now."

Shelly gritted her teeth as soon as she noticed that Mira had dodged her attack somehow.

She had no idea how the other woman was doing it, but it seemed as if she knew all of Shelly’s moves and exactly when she was about to make them.

"I told you, right? That I can see it all—what you are planning to do. It is easy for me to counter. I am the worst opponent for someone like you. Now, why don’t you go to sleep as well? I promise it will all be over when you wake up."

Mira promised before Shelly felt a hard punch land on her stomach. She let out a yelp before she felt a bottle being shoved into her mouth.

"Have a good sleep and recover well. I hope we can become good friends in the future, Shelly Penrose. That way, we can gossip about our mothers and how horrible they are to us."

Shelly lost consciousness as soon as the potion hit her throat. She had resistance, but this potion was far too strong.

’I can’t...fall asleep...I need...to go...to Rin...’

Those were Shelly’s last thoughts as she felt her eyes closing.

The woman looming over her sighed before she reached out and closed Shelly’s eyes for her.

"Don’t fight it too much. Just go to sleep. You will feel much better once you wake up."

That sounded like a promise, and Shelly finally succumbed to the potion.

Mira stretched her arms as she stood back up and let out a sigh.

"Ugh, that Kyle sure is a slave driver. How dare he decide to have all the fun while sticking me with babysitting duty? I am going to complain so much to him once we get back."

Mira complained before she looked at the calamity. The monster was devouring everything in its path, and it was currently following Rin.

As much as Mira did not want to associate with any of the experiments except the ones who had escaped with her, she also knew that Kyle’s plan was the best one to follow for the sake of her revenge.

"These bastards decided to use us and then throw us away as soon as they realized that we were not what they were looking for. They brought us into this world and tied us to a fate we never wanted. So isn’t it natural that we seek revenge against them?"

Mira asked no one in particular, and there was no answer. But soon, she would get both her answer and her revenge.

The system needed Subject #00 Prime under its control for some reason, and they would make sure he became the system’s end as well.
