Chapter 190: Don’t you dare think you’ve won

They weren’t willing to take even a fraction of a percent of a risk, choosing instead to pile on as many heavy restraints as the dark cell could physically accommodate to ease their own profound anxiety.

The heavy links wrapping tightly around his dark form were not just ordinary pieces of metal, as those were extremely powerful, high-tier suppressing chains that worked tirelessly around the clock, continuously sucking away the little bits of nether the beaten demon had left inside his physical vessel.

Every single loop of the dark iron was heavily carved with ancient runic symbols that throbbed with a faint, predatory light, acting like a magical sponge that pulled out his internal reserves and dispersed them harmlessly into the surrounding stone walls, leaving him in a permanent state of severe exhaustion.

Interestingly, from a strictly technical standpoint, demons didn’t actually use traditional mana to fuel their devastating spells, but rather a completely different, force known across the world as nether.

Despite its completely different appearance and properties, nether though, was still ultimately a basic form of mana, just far more deeply corrupted and twisted.

Because of this subtle structural difference, under normal circumstances, these specific mana suppressing chains wouldn’t have worked on a demon at all, as the runes woven into the iron links wouldn’t be able to properly register the strange nether swirling in Yaroth’s body as standard mana.

They would have completely ignored the dark current, allowing a captured demon to easily preserve his full reservoir of power right beneath the guards’ noses and break through the cell bars whenever he felt like it.

Due to the absolute authority of the dragon’s command though, Yaroth himself was the exact one who had been forcefully compelled to sit down and explain precisely how the guild was meant to alter and use the chains to trap his own species, and he had even actively helped them in making the brand-new structural arrangements on the metal.

And now, thanks entirely to that, the adventurer guild officially had a reliable, highly effective way to actually imprison demons for the first time in human history.

Yaroth honestly felt like dying from the sheer, overwhelming weight of the profound shame, completely crushed by the reality of all the crucial, highly sensitive military information he had been forcefully leaked to his sworn enemies over the past few days.

His pride as a demon had been completely dragged through the dirt, and every single time he closed his eyes, he was violently reminded of how his own lips had spoken the darkest secrets of the demons to a group of mere humans.

What made his internal torment even worse, and what truly broke his spirit, was the horrific fact that he had actively participated in helping the humans set up a system of chains that could actually bind, suppress, and restrict his own kind.

He had literally handed the enemy the ultimate blueprint to neutralize his brothers-in-arms.

The reality that he had been entirely forced to do it didn’t change the horrific fact that he had technically betrayed his own kind over and over again since the moment of his capture.

Now, staring directly into the face of the very one who had forcefully compelled him to go through all of these torturous, humiliating things in the first place, Yaroth felt nothing but pure, unadulterated hatred and burning fury.

However, alongside that raging volcano of pure hatred, he also felt an incredibly deep, paralyzing sense of absolute terror creeping into his soul, especially when remembering how easily this exact same person had completely overwhelmed him during their initial encounter.

The memory of their battle was a haunting nightmare that constantly played on loop inside his mind, reminding him of how his strongest techniques had been broken like fragile glass.

No matter how much anger bubbled beneath his gray skin, the terrifying reality of the massive, insurmountable gap between their abilities was a cold fact that left him feeling completely helpless and exposed.

In fact, despite his own dark nature and his status as a feared commander of the abyss, the one he truly saw as the real, absolute demon in this world was none other than this white-masked man standing before him.

Noah chuckled softly at the demon’s highly expressive, venomous glare, a wave of pure amusement washing over him as he casually rested one hand against the cold iron of the cage.

"Why exactly are you looking at me with so much anger... do you really feel that incredibly bad for finally contributing something useful to humanity?" he said.

Yaroth only looked down toward the damp stone floor, his broad shoulders slumping heavily under the massive weight of the mana-suppressing chains as he completely refused to engage with the human’s mocking tone.

He had completely lost all desire to argue, boast, or defend his pride, feeling completely drained of the energy required to maintain his fiercely defiant posture.

He let out a low, incredibly ragged breath that rattled weakly through his chained chest, saying in a faint, thoroughly broken whisper, "Enough of this torture... just kill me already... please..."

The once-proud monster was openly begging for the release of an executioner’s blade, desperate to escape the loop of shame.

Noah slowly shook his head, a cold, mocking smile remaining on his lips as he rejected the desperate plea without a single shred of mercy or hesitation, saying in a flat, unyielding tone, "No."

He had absolutely no intention of granting Yaroth a quick, painless exit from this world after the horrific atrocities the demons had committed on little children.

A swift death was a luxury that this monster simply had not earned, and Noah was going to ensure that every single drop of retribution was thoroughly squeezed out of the demon before his death.

"I told you exactly what would happen before, didn’t I? I promised you that I’ll make you suffer a fate that is far worse than death itself." he said.

Yaroth gnashed his teeth as he forced his head upward to glare back at his tormentor.

"Don’t you dare think that you’ve won human... the real battle hasn’t even officially started yet." he said.

"The truth is that I’m merely one of the weakest, demons out there... when the even stronger ones finally get involved in the action, not even a man like you will be able to stop them, L-lord... White."
