Chapter 414: 414 MCU 89
The plan was simple. T’Challa would wear the Black Panther suit, draw attention and firepower, and once the enemy was focused on him, the Jabari Tribe would ambush from hiding. When the battle became chaotic, Shuri, Nakia, and Everett would seize the underground research lab.
Once the plan was set, T’Challa departed immediately with the Jabari warriors. Shuri, Nakia, and Everett moved separately to infiltrate the lab. I, of course, accompanied the Jabari Tribe.
Upon arriving at the palace, we hid and observed the situation. Contrary to expectations, they weren’t preparing to sell weapons—they were preparing for war. The presence of multiple Russian T-14 Armata tanks confirmed this. They seemed to plan on conquering neighboring countries first to build power.
’They must have changed their plan because of what I said.’
One notable thing was that W’Kabi, the Border Tribe chieftain, was trying hard to persuade Killmonger.
"Forget these outdated tanks—we need to use the Irino (rhinos)!"
"You can’t use rhinos in a war! You’ve only lived here, so you don’t understand the importance of tanks. Just watch. Tanks will crush them much faster than those rhinos."
From their conversation, they were debating whether to use Wakanda’s battle rhinos. I couldn’t understand why W’Kabi was so insistent on deploying them.
’Because of symbolism?’
In a tradition-focused nation like Wakanda, that might be the case. What was amusing was that M’Baku, hiding beside me, looked relieved after hearing this.
"Phew... Thank god they’re not using the Irino."
"Huh? Isn’t a tank better? Why are you relieved?"
M’Baku looked at me as if I were pitiful.
"You have no idea how terrifying the Irino are."
Just then, T’Challa interrupted us.
"We’re starting, so cut the chatter. When I’ve drawn enough attention, move in."
"Got it..."
I was disappointed I didn’t get to hear the reason, but with the situation at hand, I decided to ask later.
T’Challa then circled around and appeared before Killmonger, who was preparing for war. In the original, he made a dramatic entrance by destroying a transport ship, but here he just walked up confidently and called out to Killmonger—it wasn’t as flashy, but it still had presence.
"N’Jadaka!!!"
T’Challa’s sudden appearance and shout drew the soldiers, the Border Tribe, and the Dora Milaje—along with Killmonger—to gather in front of the palace.
The Dora Milaje looked surprised or even smiled at seeing T’Challa alive, but W’Kabi and Killmonger stared at him grimly.
"I have not surrendered!!! And as you can see, I’m not dead!!!"
"Come on! The duel is over! I am the king now!"
Killmonger shouted and commanded W’Kabi beside him.
"W’Kabi, kill that clown."
But Okoye, W’Kabi’s wife and general of the Dora Milaje, urgently stopped him.
"W’Kabi, you heard—the duel isn’t over!"
W’Kabi hesitated, and one of the Border Tribe members asked,
"What do we do, Chieftain!"
W’Kabi, determined, shouted,
"Border Tribe!"
HOO! HOO!
"Attack!"
WAHHH!!!
At W’Kabi’s command, the Border Tribe raised their swords and charged toward T’Challa with war cries. Ultimately, W’Kabi and the Border Tribe chose to follow Killmonger.
T’Challa watched them, and when the Border Tribe reached a position favorable for our ambush, he signaled us.
"Jin! M’Baku! Now!"
HOO! HOO! HOO!
At the signal, M’Baku and the Jabari Tribe revealed themselves with gorilla-like cries and attacked the Border Tribe. The Border Tribe, caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the Jabari warriors, failed to respond effectively.
Of course, I joined the fight as well, but knowing they might become allies later, I held back and only subdued them.
BAM! THWACK! SMACK!
As the Border Tribe began to crumble, Killmonger, realizing the situation was turning against him, deployed Wakandan fighters and T-14 Armata tanks that had been waiting in reserve. This order disregarded the lives of the Border Tribe members who were still fighting.
Okoye frowned and said to Killmonger,
"Your heart is filled not only with hatred, but you’re driving your own people to their deaths! You are not worthy to be king!"
Okoye struck the ground twice with her spear and pointed it at Killmonger. The Dora Milaje, agreeing with her, all aimed their spears without hesitation.
Killmonger, in turn, took a fighting stance against the Dora Milaje. The Black Panther suit, made of vibranium nanoparticles, automatically formed from his necklace.
"I thought ruling gently in my homeland was my mistake. Iron fist rule was the answer..."
Okoye sighed and ordered the Dora Milaje behind her.
"Go stop those tanks!"
At her command, most Dora Milaje moved to stop the tanks, while a few stayed to face Killmonger with Okoye.
Meanwhile, the advancing tanks began firing indiscriminately with cannons and machine guns at both allies and enemies. Killmonger’s men were likely piloting them.
I quickly created an Eldritch Magic barrier to block the attacks. Wakandan warriors, seeing this, also deployed energy shields to stop the incoming shells and bullets.
While we were blocking the attacks, the Dora Milaje who had circled around began firing energy blasts from their spears at the tanks’ rear flanks, destroying them. The power of the Dora Milaje’s spear energy blasts was considerable.
If the Avengers had faced them, the tanks would have met the same fate—but seeing the tanks rendered helpless, I felt more pity than relief. A single Wakandan warrior had taken down a tank.
The fighters initially fired energy blasts along with the tanks to break through our shields, but the sudden appearance of T’Challa’s Royal Talon Fighter initiated an aerial dogfight. Shuri’s team must have seized the lab and were remotely piloting the Talon to help us.
"W’Kabi, stop! Are you still supporting Killmonger? Look! Your chosen king! The tanks are attacking both allies and enemies!"
"Better than staying like this with no change! If we keep going like this, outsiders will attack us first! Better to have a strong king and strike before we’re struck!"
T’Challa tried to persuade W’Kabi, but W’Kabi, who had lost his father to Ulysses Klaue during the vibranium theft, wouldn’t budge.
Deciding there was no other way, W’Kabi suddenly climbed onto a rock and blew the horn at his waist.
"No!"
T’Challa urgently tried to stop him, but it was too late.
Suddenly, the ground shook as massive rhinos in vibranium armor charged in. What was even more remarkable was that they plowed straight through a tank that was in their way—the tank, as if made of wood, was crushed and sent rolling.
One tank fired a shell at a rhino, but the rhino took a direct hit without flinching. Enraged, it charged and rammed the tank, flipping it and turning it into scrap metal in an instant. An unbelievable scene unfolded before my eyes.
"My god..."
I watched in utter amazement—I’d never imagined Wakanda’s battle rhinos were that powerful. Now M’Baku’s words made perfect sense.
"The Irino (rhinos) are coming!!! Everyone be careful!!!"
"Damn it!"
"Everyone take cover!!!"
At the Jabari Tribe’s shouts, I snapped out of it and stood before an approaching rhino. As it charged to gore me with its horn, I sidestepped, grabbed the horn, and pulled it toward me, unbalancing it.
Unable to control its momentum, the rhino tumbled and rolled across the ground. After all, a beast is a beast.
"GRUNT!"
CRASH-THUD-THUMP—!!!
Wakanda’s battle rhinos were far larger and bulkier than normal rhinos, so they looked like massive boulders rolling across the ground.
’Wow... I hope it’s not hurt. These rhinos would be a huge asset in the fight against Thanos...’
There were still a few rampaging rhinos, so I set aside my concerns and went to handle the next one.
CRASH!!!
I lightly jumped and pressed down on a rhino’s head, driving it into the ground, or used Eldritch Magic to create whips and trip their legs, subduing them one by one.
Meanwhile, a loud crash signaled that Okoye and the Dora Milaje fighting Killmonger had been sent flying. He must have used the vibranium suit to absorb impact energy and released it all at once.
I glanced at T’Challa—he was just as busy subduing rhinos as I was. So I moved to face Killmonger myself. There were only two rhinos left, and I figured they’d handle them fine.
When I arrived, Killmonger raised his hand and said,
"I don’t want to fight the Avengers yet. This is Wakanda’s business—you have no reason to get involved."
"Weren’t you preparing for war against other nations? That makes it our concern. And as you said, ’yet.’ You’d devour other nations one by one, build power, and eventually prepare for a fight with us, right?"
He sighed, acknowledging I was right.
"You’re not easy to brush off... Fine! It’s not bad to see how strong the Avengers are in advance."
With that, Killmonger took a stance, extended his claws, and charged at me with blinding speed.
BOOM!!! CRACK!!!
"GAAH!!!"
I smirked, clenched my fist, and timed my strike to slam downward as he approached. The blow drove him straight into the ground—the concrete floor cracked loudly, and he was half-buried in the earth.
The impact was so strong that the vibranium suit’s energy absorption was overwhelmed, and the stored energy released upon hitting the ground—but it did no damage to me.
"You got confident just because you took some herb and put on a vibranium suit? Big mistake. We’ve faced far worse monsters than you. What could you possibly do with at best super-soldier-level strength..."
"Guh... gah..."
I clicked my tongue, but Killmonger was too stunned to even reply.
I approached him slowly, used [Hacking] to disable the vibranium suit and revert it to necklace form, then removed it from his neck. Fortunately, while his clothes had been torn when the suit formed, his underwear remained intact—so no eye trauma.
"Th-this can’t be... The Avengers are this strong..."
Nakia and Shuri, who had arrived at some point, watched in shock and said that.
"Let’s secure Killmonger first. Then we need to announce this to everyone—that he’s been subdued."
"Right. That’ll prevent further damage."
Following Shuri and Nakia’s advice, I bound Killmonger and shouted loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Killmonger has been subdued!"
At that, W’Kabi, who had continued resisting, along with the rest of the Border Tribe, dropped their weapons and knelt. With Killmonger subdued, they abandoned further resistance.
T’Challa rushed over and checked Killmonger’s condition—his jaw was completely shattered, and half his teeth were missing. He was in no state to talk. Maybe I went a bit too far.
But it couldn’t be helped. He was wearing a vibranium suit, and with the situation diverging from the original, I couldn’t risk Shuri or Nakia dying at his hands—that might change T’Challa in unpredictable ways. I had to take him down quickly.
"... Shuri, treat him."
"Wha, what?! He’s the enemy..."
"Even so, we need him to be able to speak if we’re to hold him accountable or put him on trial. In this state..."
"I suppose you’re right..."
