Chapter 1713: Chapter 1713: His Greatest Weakness (7)

Gu Anjin tugged at the clothes on her body and sat down a little distance away from him. "You can go now."

Yue Siqing took a few strides toward her, his overwhelming presence making it clear he had no intention of letting her off.

"Weren’t you about to get rough with me?"

Gu Anjin pressed her lips together, clutching her clothes. "I’m not joking. Go out. What I said just now was only because I didn’t want him to get the wrong idea. But Yue Siqing, my stance hasn’t changed. Don’t treat me like I’m the old me anymore. I don’t want to cling to you either. You think it’s unsafe for me out there, fine, I can come back. But you can’t keep me under soft house arrest. I’ve already spoken to the school. I’m going back to class tomorrow."

Emotions churned in Yue Siqing’s chest; her cold and steady words landed like a heavy blow.

"Don’t read too much into it. This has nothing to do with Song Yi either. I know you might find it hard to get used to for a while, and out of moral obligation, you don’t want to just abandon me." Gu Anjin’s voice continued, "I won’t mistake it for you already liking me, and I won’t mistake it for you not wanting to see me with another man. It’s fine. Whoever you get engaged to in the future has nothing to do with me. Yue Siqing..."

"I really don’t want to see you with another man."

There was none of her usual joy on Gu Anjin’s face.

Probably because every time she’d let herself hope, it always ended up being shattered again by his ruthlessness.

So right now, she didn’t want to overthink it at all.

He had only admitted he didn’t want to see her with other men, but completely ignored the part where she said she wouldn’t misunderstand and think he had feelings for her.

Gu Anjin drew a deep, quiet breath in her heart; maybe the truth was just this cruel.

She would be unused to this version of herself, and Yue Siqing would be unused to it too.

Give it more time; once he realized she meant it, he would slowly get used to a life without this clingy, impossible-to-shake-off nuisance.

"It’s okay. Habits can be changed." Gu Anjin gave a small smile. "Please, Brother Siqing. If you don’t want us to end up completely tearing each other apart, then at least leave us both a bit of dignity. I don’t want us to get to a point where we can’t even maintain what we have now."

Yue Siqing stared at her in silence, his voice icy and strained when he finally spoke. "You’ve thought it through?"

"Yes." Gu Anjin nodded. "I’ve thought it through. So you should still go out. Otherwise, do you actually want to repeat what happened that night? Don’t force me to hate you."

Don’t force me to hate you.

A sharp pain stabbed through Yue Siqing’s chest. Looking at the pale, calm expression on her face, a cold, mocking smile tugged at his lips.

"I don’t even want to think about what happened that night." Gu Anjin enunciated each word. "I was too naïve before. I won’t be anymore. So there should be no more contact like that between us. Of course, if you insist on using force, maybe I won’t be able to stop you in the moment. But you’d better think carefully. I could forgive you last time. Next time, I won’t forgive you again."

Yue Siqing looked at her deeply, his brows knotted as if they could never smooth out.

He backed up two steps, then finally turned and strode out of her room.

The door slammed shut, and at last the taut string that had been stretched tight in Gu Anjin’s chest loosened.

She collapsed onto the bed, completely drained, unable to put her current feelings into words.

She only knew that if they kept tangling like this and Yue Siqing hurt her one more time, she would never escape this vicious circle.

The room was dimly lit. Yue Siqing walked out of the bathroom, droplets of water from his shower still clinging to his body.
