Chapter 489: A Little Taster
As the yellow talisman continued to burn, the blurry figure beneath it gradually became solid. Moments later, a warrior clad in yellow armor stood before them, gripping a long spear. The Yellow-Sealed Soldier had fully manifested.
The moment it appeared, golden light spread across its body. It fixed its gaze on Marcus, the person who had broken the seal, and charged forward in anger.
Unfortunately for the guardian, it only managed two steps before both Sea Demon Souls hit it with taunt skills. Its attention immediately shifted.
"Thousand-Sweep Strike!"
With a roar, the Yellow-Sealed Soldier swung its spear in a wide arc. A wave of yellow light swept through a five-meter radius and struck both Sea Demon Souls.
The attack certainly looked impressive. Then the damage numbers appeared.
-450
-460
Marcus almost laughed. The attack had barely scratched them.
The Sea Demon Souls each possessed around twenty-five thousand health, nearly twice his own HP pool. On top of that, they inherited his regeneration, recovering 391 HP every second. At that rate, the Yellow-Sealed Soldier could spend the entire day attacking them and still accomplish nothing. The damage and healing would practically cancel each other out.
"Not bad," Marcus muttered, amused. "Too bad you can’t actually hurt them."
The durability of the Sea Demon Souls continued to impress him. They were becoming more useful every time he summoned them.
He casually threw an Insight at the enemy.

Marcus raised an eyebrow. So it wasn’t some elite guardian after all. Just a basic celestial foot soldier. That explained the underwhelming stats. He had initially thought the imposing appearance meant it was something special. Apparently not.
"Attack."
He didn’t even bother moving. At his command, the five Royal Sorcerers began casting, and powerful elemental spells blasted toward the Yellow-Sealed Soldier one after another.
Marcus felt no hesitation whatsoever. The guardian wasn’t evil, nor was it some demonic creature, but that didn’t matter. It was an obstacle standing between him and the treasure. Besides, this wouldn’t be the last time. Many high-grade treasures, divine artifacts, and ancient relics were protected by celestial guardians. If he wanted the rewards, he would have to defeat whatever stood in his way.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Royal Sorcerers unleashed a devastating barrage. Every attack dealt well over four thousand damage. The first concentrated volley alone stripped away more than half the Yellow-Sealed Soldier’s health. Its HP plunged from forty thousand to roughly fifteen thousand in an instant.
Marcus nodded. "That’s about what I expected." The second volley would finish the fight.
Just as the Royal Sorcerers prepared another round of spells, Marcus suddenly changed his mind. An idea crossed his mind. ’Why not test my new level fifty abilities?’
After all, the boss was already on its last legs. Perfect timing.
Without hesitation, Marcus switched weapons and mounted up.
The Ice-Fire Twin Dragon Hoe appeared in his hands. Then he charged.
A dark figure shot across the battlefield. Black armor, a flowing cloak, gray wandering souls circling around him, and red and blue light intertwined around the massive hoe resting on his shoulder. Beneath him, Blackie thundered forward, black flames flickering beneath its hooves. The sight was enough to make anyone stop and stare.
"That’s awesome!"
Even Marcus felt a surge of satisfaction. His current appearance was hard to beat. Like a dark knight emerging from a battlefield of legends, he rushed directly toward the Yellow-Sealed Soldier.
The Royal Sorcerers were caught off guard.
’So fast!’
At first, Marcus seemed only slightly faster than the incoming spells, but then Blackie suddenly accelerated. The Temple Knight’s level fifty passive skill activated the moment he entered range, and the warhorse burst forward with explosive speed. In the blink of an eye, Marcus had crossed the remaining distance.
To the others, it almost looked like teleportation. He overtook the Royal Sorcerers’ spells completely, and before their magic could reach the target, Marcus was already there.
"HEADSHOT!"
His shout echoed across the ravine as the Ice-Fire Twin Dragon Hoe descended.
Quadruple Surge!
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!
One strike became four. The attacks landed so quickly they looked like a single continuous blow.
Four critical-hit numbers erupted above the Yellow-Sealed Soldier’s head, each exceeding ten thousand damage. The remaining health disappeared instantly.
The Yellow-Sealed Soldier never had a chance. Its body exploded into fragments of golden light and vanished. A clean kill.
Only afterward did the Royal Sorcerers’ spells arrive. Explosions engulfed the area where the guardian had stood moments before, filling the ravine with elemental energy and dazzling flashes of light.
Marcus remained mounted at the center of it all, the lingering magic illuminating his armor while Blackie pawed at the ground beneath him. For a brief moment, the scene looked ridiculously dramatic.
"Brother, you’re amazing!" Amber’s excited voice broke the silence.
She had been about to fire an arrow herself, but Marcus had finished the fight before anyone else could react. Watching him charge across the battlefield and crush the boss in a single exchange filled her with pride. After all, that powerful knight was her brother.
"Marcus, that was incredible!" Jade immediately agreed.
"Marcus, you looked really cool just now."
The other girls chimed in as well. Even Icefall, who was usually the most critical of him, couldn’t find anything to complain about this time.
Marcus couldn’t help smiling. Level fifty. The difference was obvious.
A moment earlier, he had only wanted to test his new skills. Now he had a much clearer understanding of their power. The charge speed alone was absurd. Once Blackie’s acceleration effect activated, closing distances became effortless. Combined with his existing attributes and offensive abilities, the burst damage was even more outrageous than he had expected.
And the funniest part? This had only been a quick test. A small sample. He hadn’t activated most of his support skills, he hadn’t used any serious combinations, and he hadn’t even come close to fighting at full strength.
This was merely a glimpse of what a level fifty Temple Knight could do.
