Chapter 473: A Village Full of Treasures
Who would have thought Millbrook Village was hiding things like this?
Marcus suddenly felt foolish. A few minutes ago, he’d been ready to dismiss these gifts as little more than farm produce. Looking back on it now, he had nearly mistaken gold for copper and gems for gravel.
The experience drove home a lesson he probably should have learned long ago: never underestimate anyone, especially people who looked ordinary on the surface.
He was still staring at the dried beef’s description when another six villagers stepped forward in pairs carrying three large wooden crates. The Village Chief immediately resumed his role as announcer.
"Thirty jugs of Millbrook’s thousand-year grain wine!"
Three crates, ten jugs in each.
Marcus quickly put away the dried beef and accepted the crates, trying not to look too eager. The moment they were safely in his possession, he pulled out one of the wine jugs and checked its stats.
—
Thousand-Year Grain Wine: Special Item. Brewed by the villagers of Millbrook using locally grown grain and a unique fermentation process. While ordinary grain wine is nothing unusual, wine buried for a thousand years gradually absorbs elemental energy from the surrounding environment. The result is a rich, fragrant flavor and remarkable properties.
Effect: Drinking three ounces increases Elemental Resistance by 30%. Drinking five ounces increases Elemental Resistance by 50%. Duration: thirty days. Maximum increase: 50%.
—
Marcus nearly laughed out loud. Elemental Resistance, another jackpot.
Unlike basic stats, Elemental Resistance wasn’t something players could easily increase through leveling or training. Most people relied entirely on rare equipment to raise it, and gear with high resistance bonuses was always in demand.
This wine was absurd. Each jug weighed ten pounds, and thirty jugs meant three hundred pounds of wine.
Three hundred pounds of liquid gold.
The villagers continued forward. Next came a basket filled with tiny purple honey dates, followed by another basket containing bright red pears. By now Marcus had learned his lesson, but when he checked their descriptions, he still found himself staring in disbelief.
—
Millbrook Honey Date: Special Item. Deep within a hidden grove in Nine-Cauldron Flame Mountain, southwest of Millbrook Village, grows a Divine-tier plant known as the Fire Dragon Date. Many years ago, a villager accidentally discovered the grove and brought back a single seed. That seed eventually grew into the Millbrook honey date tree.
Effect: Consuming one date restores 200 HP and 100 MP per second for thirty days. Effect does not stack.
—
Marcus froze, then checked it again and again. The description remained exactly the same.
’You’re kidding me...’
The best health potions available in stores restored 200 HP per second, for ten seconds. This thing restored the same amount continuously for thirty days.
Thirty days. The difference was so ridiculous that it almost felt unfair.
His mind automatically began calculating the numbers. A ten-second potion meant six potions per minute, three hundred sixty per hour, eight thousand six hundred forty per day, and over two hundred fifty-nine thousand potions across thirty days. At ten gold per potion, that was more than two and a half million gold worth of healing.
And that was only the HP recovery, not even counting the MP regeneration.
If one of these ever appeared at auction, it would probably spark a bidding war and sell for an outrageous price.
Marcus looked down at the basket, realizing he was holding a small fortune in his hands. Then another thought crossed his mind. Could he actually bring himself to sell them?
The answer arrived immediately.
Absolutely not. Only an idiot would sell something this valuable.
Checking his current character sheet, Marcus quickly did another calculation. Between his equipment and natural regeneration, he already recovered 230 HP per second. Adding a honey date would raise that to 430.
If he activated a super-grade healing potion during combat as well...
Nine hundred and thirty HP every second. At that point, most enemies would struggle to damage him faster than he could recover.
He was tempted to eat one immediately, but in the end, he resisted the urge. There were too few of them, and he’d rather save some for the girls back home.
The next basket contained eighty bright red pears.
—
Millbrook Red Pear: Special Item. A unique pear tree that existed long before Millbrook Village was founded. The fruit is sweet, juicy, and possesses remarkable properties. In the past, these pears were the village’s primary source of income. However, as magical energy in the region gradually declined, only three trees remain, producing fewer than one hundred pears each season.
Effect: Consuming one pear increases Attack by 10% for thirty days. Effect does not stack.
—
Marcus inhaled sharply at the flat ten percent increase to Attack. No conditions and no restrictions.
Just ten percent.
Items like this would drive players crazy, and every major guild, wealthy merchant, and top-ranked fighter would want them.
At that moment, a single thought echoed through his mind. ’Everything in this village is treasure.’
He quickly stored the pears and turned his attention to the remaining gifts. Compared to the earlier items, most of them appeared to be ingredients rather than finished products.
—
Fresh Live Fish: High-Grade Cooking Ingredient. Willow-Leaf Fish caught in the freshwater stream near the entrance of Millbrook Village. Only local fishermen know the proper method for catching them.
Bear Paws: High-Grade Cooking Ingredient. Obtained from Big-Bellied Bears that inhabit the mountains behind the village. The meat is excellent, especially the paws.
Wild Mushrooms: High-Grade Cooking Ingredient. Naturally grown in untouched wilderness. Rare and highly sought after.
Red-Haired Rabbits: High-Grade Cooking Ingredient. A unique species found only in the mountains surrounding Millbrook Village. Their diet of Red-Leaf Grass gives the meat an exceptionally tender texture and flavor.
—
Every single one was classified as a high-grade ingredient, and Marcus could practically imagine the meals already.
The memory of the Venomous Horned Serpent feast flashed through his mind. That meal had nearly ruined ordinary food for him.
Now he had enough premium ingredients to stock an entire kitchen, and the girls were definitely going to prepare a feast tonight.
Still, one final basket remained, and the villagers carefully carried it forward. The moment Marcus saw what was inside, he stopped breathing for a second.
Lobsters.
Fifteen enormous crimson lobsters, each nearly a meter long, and unlike the other ingredients, these weren’t merely high-grade.
They were Mythic-grade.
His eyes widened.
—
Firestone Lobster: Mythic-Grade Cooking Ingredient. A rare specialty found in the Firestone Shoals behind Millbrook Village. Every hundred years, a Firestone Lobster sheds its shell and grows larger. After surviving five molts over five hundred years, it has roughly a thirty percent chance of evolving into Mythic-grade quality.
Effect: Firestone Lobsters possess extraordinary nutritional value and can permanently enhance Strength. The exact increase depends on the chef’s skill.
—
Marcus stared at the description for several long seconds. Even among top-tier players, most people had never seen one.
Mythic-grade ingredients.
These weren’t merely rare. They were the kind of ingredients that chefs bragged about for years after getting their hands on them.
The first person who came to mind was Jennifer from the Magnolia Restaurant. Marcus had eaten her cooking before, and if anyone could bring out the full potential of these lobsters, it would be her.
Still, that wasn’t what shocked him the most. What truly left him speechless was the village itself.
From the outside, Millbrook looked like an ordinary rural settlement tucked away in the middle of nowhere. Nothing about it suggested wealth, power, or importance.
Yet hidden beneath that humble appearance was a collection of treasures that could make major cities jealous.
A village producing special foods, rare ingredients, Mythic-grade materials, and items powerful enough to change a player’s build entirely?
It was ridiculous. Only one conclusion made sense; Millbrook Village wasn’t a forgotten backwater at all. It was a treasure trove disguised as one.
And the more Marcus learned about it, the more convinced he became that this place was completely, utterly insane.
