Chapter 470: The Soul Dream Set

"Not a Divine Beast..."

Despite the kitten’s impressive stats, its tier was completely unexpected.

"Seriously?" Marcus couldn’t help blurting it out. "That’s insane!"

The Soul-Mist Water Demon Cat’s egg had absorbed the soul of a Mythic Beast, the Twin-Winged Ice Owl, along with more than a hundred thousand ghost souls and the soul of a thousand-year Corpse Demon. After devouring all of that, it had only evolved into a Mythic Beast?

Marcus glanced at the lively kitten perched on his shoulder. The little thing looked harmless enough, but the more he learned about it, the more impossible it became to understand.

Considering how greedily the egg had consumed souls from beginning to end, it clearly wasn’t a matter of lacking the potential to become a Divine Beast. If anything, the problem was the opposite. Its appetite was simply too large, and even everything it had consumed today apparently wasn’t enough to push it over the final threshold.

"...Right." Marcus found himself at a loss for words.

This cat was terrifying. Its future potential was far beyond anything he had imagined.

Still, after everything that had happened, he had finally managed to hatch it. That alone was worth celebrating. The process had nearly driven him crazy.

His hand drifted toward his backpack, resting on the other pet egg inside, the Dark Violet Sky Dragon’s egg. The thought immediately surfaced again: if the cat could hatch under these conditions, was there any chance at all that he could hatch the dragon as well?

Nearby, the Seven-Colored Divine Eagle and the newly hatched Twin-Winged Water Demon Cat had already noticed each other. The two pets circled around Marcus, cautiously observing one another. Neither showed hostility. Instead, they seemed curious, gradually becoming familiar with their new companion.

With that settled, Marcus began collecting the loot left behind by the Soul Vase Ghost and Evan. Both had dropped an impressive amount of treasure.

He started by casting Gathering on the ghost’s corpse. The result was disappointing: two ghost bones. That was it. Useful crafting materials for certain weapons, but hardly exciting.

Then he checked the ghost’s actual drops, and his opinion changed immediately.

The first item was the Soul Vase itself. A Mythic Artifact. Unfortunately, its effects were still unknown and unusable in its current state. He would need Grandpa Appraiser to identify it before learning what it could do.

The next item caught his attention even more.

Green text. Marcus froze.

At first, he had assumed it was a Golden-tier robe, but after looking closer, he realized the item’s name was displayed in green. A green item? His heartbeat instantly sped up.

"A green set?" Marcus stared at the robe in disbelief.

He had worn several sets before. The Skeleton Set, Cabaro’s Set, and his current Corpse Demon Set all came with set bonuses and special skills. Even his sister Amber’s Mythic Maple Leaf Spirit Set possessed powerful set effects. But compared to a genuine green set, those were on an entirely different level.

Green sets were among the rarest treasures in the game. Even the weakest complete green set was comparable to carrying a Divine Artifact. Once assembled, at least one of its set bonuses or abilities would reach Divine-tier standards.

On top of that, every individual piece possessed stats stronger than ordinary Golden equipment and comparable to Mythic gear. In other words, wearing a single piece of a green set was already equivalent to equipping a Mythic item.

Completing the entire set was another matter entirely. A full green set provided equipment comparable to multiple Mythic items while also granting at least one Divine-tier ability. That was the true value of green equipment.

Even Amber’s Maple Leaf Spirit Set couldn’t match that. Overall, green sets surpassed ordinary Mythic gear in both rarity and potential. And there was one more reason players coveted them: they looked incredible.

Every green piece carried its own distinctive green glow. Anyone wearing one immediately became the center of attention wherever they went.

"Sweet." Marcus couldn’t stop grinning. This was the first green item he had ever obtained.

Turning the robe over in his hands, he continued examining the remaining loot. Before long, he noticed several items that shared the same style and design. His eyes widened.

One by one, he laid them out.

The Soul Robe. The helmet, Soul Cloud. The gloves, Soul Arms. The pants, Soul Skirt. The boots, Soul Wind.

Marcus counted them twice just to be sure.

"Seriously?"

Nothing was missing. He had obtained the complete Soul Dream Set.

For a moment, he could hardly believe his luck. The Level 50 Special Hard Trial had truly lived up to its reputation. Considering the difficulty of the challenge, especially the fact that it had nearly stopped one of the game’s top-ranked players, a reward of this caliber suddenly seemed justified.

As his excitement settled, however, Marcus noticed a small problem. The Soul Dream Set’s elegant design made its intended user painfully obvious: it was clearly designed for female players.

Marcus looked down at the equipment and sighed. "Guess that’s not happening."

Even so, another thought quickly replaced the disappointment. He couldn’t help picturing someone else wearing it. What would his future wife look like in this set? The image instantly put him in a better mood.

Shaking his head, Marcus forced himself back to reality. He was tempted to teleport straight back to town and identify everything immediately, but there was still work to do.

Continuing through the loot pile, he found another interesting item:

Since it had dropped from the Soul Vase Ghost, Marcus doubted it was anything ordinary. Alongside the map were two unidentified skill books, five Dreamland Gems, two Blessing Gems, and a collection of miscellaneous materials that he tossed into his inventory without much interest.

"Definitely worth it." His smile grew wider.

Next came Evan’s drops. There was a Mythic Artifact, but unfortunately, it wasn’t actually his to keep. The Boomerang Wind Sword was the objective of the village quest, meaning he would have to return it to the Village Chief.

Aside from that, there were no additional Mythic items, Artifacts, Divine Artifacts, or green equipment. There were, however, five pieces of Golden-tier gear. Not bad, just not spectacular after everything else he had found.

Marcus used all five of his daily identifications on them. The results were straightforward:

A warrior’s heavy iron greatsword. A matching suit of heavy iron armor. A pair of Silver-tier boots with no class restrictions. A double-curved bow for archers. And an ironstone vest.

The stats were decent across the board, but every item required Level 55. Since he couldn’t use any of them yet, he tossed them back into his backpack.

With the loot finally sorted, Marcus turned toward the village. The villagers had gathered some distance away under the leadership of the Village Chief. The moment he looked at them, his good mood faded slightly.

Something felt wrong. Their expressions were serious. Several looked nervous. Others watched him and his pets with clear caution.

Marcus frowned. "What’s going on?"

According to the quest description, once he defeated Evan and recovered the Boomerang Wind Sword, the villagers were supposed to welcome him as a hero and thank him for saving the village. Instead, they looked tense. Uneasy. Almost fearful.

Marcus glanced at the kitten resting comfortably on his shoulder. Was this because it had absorbed the Twin-Winged Ice Owl’s soul?

But everyone had witnessed what happened. The owl had already been on the verge of death, and the soul absorption hadn’t been something Marcus had deliberately planned. None of it had been his fault.

So why were they looking at him like that?
