Chapter 103: Alone [18]
Aria just nodded at Noah’s answer and then started eating her breakfast.
Noah didn’t say anything further and simply continued eating as well.
Adam looked at Noah, then at Aria, and thought,
"I somehow forgot that when Asher isn’t with us, she always seems colder toward others. There’s also a certain tension in the conversations. Or maybe it’s just that idiot’s way of talking that makes everything feel lighter. Or maybe I’m just being delusional."
The three of them continued eating breakfast in silence.
After finishing her meal, Aria stood up and looked at them.
"I’m going to check up on him in his room. Do you guys want to come along?" she asked.
Noah and Adam looked at each other before replying,
"We’ll come too. Let us just finish breakfast first."
Aria nodded.
"I’ll be waiting at the entrance of the cafeteria. Don’t take too long."
With that, she walked away.
Noah watched her departing figure before turning to Adam.
"Is it just me, or is she being cold and weird today?"
Adam looked at him and then glanced around to make sure Aria had already left. After confirming she was gone, he said,
"Who knows? Maybe you should ask her the same question that Asher asked Professor Elisa during practical class. Maybe that’s the reason."
Noah looked at Adam in confusion.
"What question are you talking abo—"
He suddenly paused, his eyes widening.
Then he looked at Adam and said in a slightly louder voice,
"Do you want me to die so soon? I haven’t even had a girlfriend yet. I don’t want to die single."
Adam looked at Noah and replied,
"I was just joking. And you only complained about dying single. Asher really is right—you really are an idiot, and a lucky one to still be alive with that mindset."
Noah was about to respond, but Adam quickly finished his breakfast, stood up, and said,
"Come on. I don’t think you should make Aria wait any longer."
Noah didn’t say anything further. He quickly finished his breakfast, and the two of them headed toward the cafeteria entrance to meet Aria.
Aria was already there waiting for them.
As soon as they arrived, she looked at them and said,
"Let’s go."
The three of them then headed toward Asher’s room.
After reaching it, Aria knocked on the door, but no one answered.
She knocked again, and after a few moments, a sleepy voice came from inside.
"Who is it?"
Then Adam replied,
"It’s us, your idiot."
Asher’s voice came again.
"Oh, it’s you, Mr. Useless. Come in."
Adam’s expression turned annoyed for a moment before returning to normal.
A few seconds later, the door opened, but Asher wasn’t standing at the entrance.
The three of them entered the room and walked toward the bedroom, whose door was already open.
After entering, they found Asher lying on his abnormally expensive bed in casual clothes.
His eyes were still closed.
Then he asked,
"What happened? Why are you guys here this early in the morning?"
Adam looked at him and said,
"Idiot, it’s 9 a.m. Breakfast has already ended, and you’re saying it’s early."
Asher suddenly opened his eyes, sat up on the bed, and grabbed his phone to check the time.
"It really is 9 a.m.," he muttered.
Adam looked at him and asked,
"Why are you even sleeping this late today? You usually wake up earlier than everyone else to eat breakfast. And why weren’t you answering our calls?"
Asher looked at him and answered,
"Because my phone was on silent. I always keep it on silent while sleeping. It’s not like I’m some businessman who’s going to get an important call in the middle of the night."
He paused before continuing,
"As for why I’m still sleeping this late today, it’s because of some three idiots who made the entire group of participants attack me. Then I had to fight all of those idiots. After defeating them, I completely depleted my mana and was exhausted both physically and mentally. So I guess I ended up sleeping longer than usual because of that."
Adam looked at Asher and said,
"So you still won in the end. Nothing surprising there. So, you finished at Rank 1?"
Asher looked at him, ignored the question entirely, and instead asked,
"Breakfast really ended?"
...
Adam looked at Asher and sighed.
"Yeah, it ended."
Asher looked at him and said,
"You really are useless. Why didn’t you bring some food for me before coming here?"
Adam looked back at him and replied,
"Why would I?"
Aria then spoke up.
"Don’t worry. I asked the staff to pack some food for you, and I have it with me now."
She then took out a box containing breakfast.
Asher looked at her and said,
"I knew it. You’re the smartest one in the whole team. These guys are just useless idiots and nothing more."
He then took the box from Aria’s hand and added,
"Thank you."
Aria looked at him and replied,
"You’re welcome. It’s nothing to worry about."
Asher opened the box and immediately started eating.
The other three simply watched him for a few seconds.
Noah looked at him and then said,
"You really like eating that much, don’t you?"
Asher looked at him and replied,
"Of course I do."
Then Asher extended his hand, and a rift opened in space.
His hand went into the rift, and another rift opened some distance away in front of a table where a laptop was placed.
The hand reached through the second rift, grabbed the laptop, and then retreated back through the portal.
A moment later, the rift closed, and the laptop was now in Asher’s hands.
Adam watched the entire process and then said,
"Now I understand how the door opened when you didn’t even get out of bed. You really are lazy... and talented."
Asher looked at Adam and replied,
"Magic exists to make our lives easier, and I’m simply making use of it. I’m not lazy."
Adam looked at him for a few seconds before saying,
"That’s exactly what a lazy person would say."
Asher immediately pointed at him.
"See? This is why I call you useless."
