Chapter 119: Chapter 119

The morning came far too quickly for Dron.

He hesitated opening up his eyes only for a moment, and then he realized when he did, he would be able to see Tempest again.

His eyelids burst open like a spring.

He didn’t want to miss even one minute with her. Didn’t want to miss one minute of seeing her perfect face. How he would miss this.

Dron ground his teeth hard so as to not make any noise. He didn’t want to wake her up and have her face the stressors that would be the day. He knew the moment she woke up she would be worried about what he had to do to get ready to leave her. Right now, as she was sleeping, he could pretend that this was all a bad dream. That in a few hours’ time he wouldn’t have to walk out of her life for what might be forever.

Dron knew all there was to know about war, he was the silver mark chief for a reason, but he also knew the high royals would stop at nothing to save face even if it meant sending him off to an unwinnable battle.

He would think about that later. Right now, all he wanted to think about was Tempest and the connection they shared. He wondered if it were truly as strong as he thought or if it would break to pieces the minute something went against them. Or someone.

Slowly, Dron slid out of bed and placed his feet on the ground. He looked over his shoulder at Tempest’s sleeping form. He had to do this if he had any chance of staying with her. Not because she wanted him to do it but because those that would go against them needed to know that he would stop at nothing for his mate.

He would burn the world down and everyone in it if it meant that she was safe and happy. The problem now was he was about to leave her with none of those. He wouldn’t be able to ensure her happiness or her safety. He had an idea of how he could but he didn’t like it.

Dron pushed himself out of bed and walked over to the bathroom to relieve himself. He took his time taking note of all of the finer things he had at his home. Things he wouldn’t have the privilege of being enar for a long time. Things like running water or a toliet. He didn’t look forward to using the bathroom outside.

By the time Dron had finished with his bathroom activities Tempest was still sound asleep. He knew he should take that time to start packing his bags. But there was something else he had to do first. Someone he had to go see.

He didn’t want to leave Tempest on her own but he was hopeful that the secret meeting wouldn’t take very long. If all went as he planned then by the time he came back to the house he would have solidified someone to help watch over her. To give her what he couldn’t while he was away. He ground his teeth again. He wasn’t going to like this one bit.

The ride to the academic class was longer than Dron would have liked. He chose to go a more scenic route simply because he didn’t want anyone to follow him. He couldn’t be too safe now that he knew there were people actively trying to get rid of him.

The transport slowly came to a stop in the middle of the already bustling town. Blacksmiths hammered away on armor. Scholars walked the streets with books in their hands, and merchants waved down prospective buyers.

It was so out in the open. Dron was instantly uneasy. He should be home but had to do this.

He took a deep breath and walked into a shop he’d been to only once before, and that was to get Tempest from inside of it.

The alpha he’d come to see was sitting in the back with his feet up crossed at the ankles. His hands foled behind his head.

Rynax.

"I would say this is a pleasant surprise but I’d be lying." The ostentacious alpha kicked his feet from where they were perched and stood to his feet, walking in Dron’s direction.

Dron crossed his arms over his chest, "Trust me I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have to be."

"What are you doing here then?" Rynax had his signature smug smirk on his face. To think he was making that expression long before Tempest ever made it to this planet.

"I’m sure you’ve at least heard about the mess that has been going on with the poor class."

"Yes, and I’ve also heard that it was at least in part because of you and Tempest that those people lost what little they had."

Dron was instantly hot around the neck at that statement. It ws so far from the truth.

"That is not what happened." Dron seethed.

"Whether you think that’s what happened or not, that is the story. Now once again, I’ll ask what it is you are doing here? If you’re not going to buy anything I think you should leave the store. You wouldn’t want to scare away my customers would you?"

Dron stretched his neck from side to side and took another deep breath. This was going exactly how he thought it would. With Rynax getting on his last nerve.

"I’m here to ask if you would do me a service..." Dron let the words hang in the air and grumbled as Rynax’s eyebrows shot up to his hair line.

"What makes you think I would do anything for you? In case you haven’t realized, you and I are what I would consider friends."

"No, we are not, but I think you would help Tempest." Dron tilted his head and waited for Rynax to get up to speed. Ha hadn’t come for himself. He’d come here for Tempest.

"Of course, though, if the blessed omega needed something from me, I don’t understand why she wouldn’t just ask me herself.

"She doesn’t know I’m here. She doesn’t know I’m asking?" Dron clarified.

"What exactly does she not know about but need from me?" Rynax narrowed his eyes at Dron. Dron gulped hard. He didn’t want to do this, but he knew it was the best option. The only real option to keep Tempest safe, no matter how revolting it sounded every time he thought about it.

"She needs someone to watch over her." Dron moved a little closer to Rynax before he continued, "I’m about to set off on a mission to find out exactly who is behind the attack on the poor village. I don’t know what kind of resources I will have or where the mission will take me. I don’t know what I’ll face, but I do know that Tempest will be here on her own for an extended period of time. Gerax and another alpha by the name of Maznik have all agreed to look in on her but they aren’t warriors, at least any more. Tempest seems to attention of the lethal kind more than I would like. She needs someone who can protect her. Another alpha who isn’t out to just show her off to the masses. She needs someone else who knows just how important she is."

Rynax was silent for a long time, and Dron thought that maybe he wouldn’t go for what he was proposing. After all, Rynax wouldn’t get any of the perks that come along with taking care of an Omega, but Dron had to hope that deep down there was some honor in the man. He was about to trust his heart to someone who felt as if they had been cheated at the choosing ceremony.

"She wouldn’t be able to stay with me. That would cause too much of a controversy for all of us."

"Agreed, but she doesn’t need to live with you. She has a home. My home. I was assuming you would just come check on her from time to time and be available on the communicator. Just be near by.

"So you want me to play babysitter?" Rynax smirked again.

This was a bad idea. Dron could feel it in his bones. He was giving the man too much power. Too much hold over him. What happens if Tempest doesn’t want Rynax to watch over her? Will she fight back against him?

"Maybe let’s not tell her you’re a babysitter. I don’t think that will go over too well with her."

"Yeah, she’s a fiesty one. She just needs a little taming." Rynax shrugged his shoulders.

Dron growled low in his chest. "She doesn’t need you to do anything but watch her. I suggest you keep your personality training and your hands to yourself."

The smirk on Rynax’s face got bigger. "I’ll do my best, cursed one, but you should know the fickle nature of an omega. If she wants something more, I’ll give it to her."

Dron knew it was a possibility, knew that leaving Tempest alone for a prolonged period might push her into the arms of another alpha. He only hoped that the connection was strong enough to endure.
