Chapter 118: Chapter 118
The silence was oppressive.
There was nothing that Tempest could say to Dron.
She felt like all of this was her fault. If she hadn’t pushed to find out what was going on in the other classes, none of this would have happened. They had finally gotten to a point where they were getting used to each other, really falling for each other, and now they were about to be faced with the prospect of being without each other.
"I’m tired." Dron announced and started walking back to his room. Tempest followed behind him. Still, there didn’t seem to be anything that she could say to him. She searched her mind for a way to break the tension.
Dron walked into his room and unceremoniously started to undress. Tempest followed his lead. She noticed that even though she was getting naked, Dron didn’t even send her a passing glance.
She wanted to cry.
She waited until Dron crawled into bed, and she followed him under the covers. They lay there in the bed, neither one of them touching the other.
"Dron ..." Tempest squeaked out; she had to say something. Had to get out the emotions that were running rampant inside of her.
He sighed but didn’t respond more than that. Tempest couldn’t figure out if he was just mad with the system or if he was mad at her. She would understand if he were mad at her.
"Dron, please talk to me. I’m going crazy here."
"I’m not sure what you want me to say. I’ve failed you. I know it. I don’t necessarily want to rehash it."
Tempest gasped and turned quickly in Dron’s direction.
He failed her? How?
"What are you talking about? What makes you think that you failed me? You didn’t fail me!" Tempest let the words come out in a steady stream.
"Tempest. You were there. You heard what the high royals had to say. They are going to ship me off tomorrow, and there’s nothing that I can do about it. I can’t protect you. I can’t fight for you. I can’t do anything."
Tempest heard the defeat in her man’s voice, and it broke her heart. She moved over and placed a soft hand on his heart.
"Dron, this whole system is set up against us. We are right here. You did the right thing, and I’ll never ever hold that against you. You didn’t fail me. The system failed me."
"I can’t leave you." Dron grabbed hold of her and pulled her closer. She could feel his body trembling.
"Oi, I don’t think we have a choice. I don’t want you to leave either. Maybe there’s another way. Maybe they will allow me to go with you."
Dron’s eyes widened. "No, absolutely not. I don’t know where they are going to send me, but I’m sure wherever it is they send me will be no place for you. I can’t fight the battles that are going to be thrown at me and watch over you. I’d try, but I know it won’t work. You can’t be there."
Tempest felt like she was some helpless little damsel. He was right when he said that where he was going was probably no place for her, but she also knew that she was capable of taking care of herself to a degree. At least that’s what she wanted to believe. She wasn’t a warrior in any sense, but she was a survivor.
She wanted to press the matter but knew this wasn’t the time. He wasn’t going to budge when it came to her safety. She’d have to find a different way to get there with him.
"What do you think is going to happen? How long do you think the search will take?" Tempest asked.
Dron sighed again and pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear so he could see her face clearly. "I don’t know. Honestly I don’t even know where to start. I know the high royals had to be behind the attack, but I doubt they went and did it themselves. They sent others to do it for them. I’m sure it will be someone in the military class, but they could be hiding out anywhere. I really don’t have a clue how long this could be."
Tempest bit her lip; she didn’t want to use this card, but if it forced the people running this show to change their minds, she would.
"What if we told them we were fated mates?? Isn’t that supposed to be a super important thing? If we told them we were bound to each other, would they go back on their decision to send you away?"
Dron smirked at her and moved in closer to press a soft kiss to her lips. "I love it when you say that. Fated mate. "The smirk slid from his face slightly as he continued, "Even if we did tell them about what we are, either they wouldn’t believe us or they would subject you to a number of tests. I’m not who they would expect to be blessed by the moon goddess with a fated mate. I’m sure it would just prolong the inevitable and be much more uncomfortable for you."
Tempest closed her eyes and let her thoughts run wild. She wanted a solution. She wanted to fix this problem, but the more she thought about it, the more it seemed like there were obstacles popping up all over the place.
"What can we do?" Tempest questioned, her voice thick with the emotion that she was trying so hard to hold in.
"We have to make our way back to each other. Will you stay?" Dron’s face showed everything that he was feeling inside, but what broke Tempest the hardest was the fear.
The tears flowed from her eyes once again. She couldn’t hold it in any more. "Of course, I’ll fight for you. Needing you. Loving you."
"My temptation, you don’t know how much I needed to hear that. I’ll come back to you. I’ll finish this mission and be home before you know it." Dron nodded, and Tempest nodded right along with him. She saw it as gospel, but part of her couldn’t help but feel like this might be the last time she was in his arms like this. What if this was the last time she was in the bed with him, sharing his space?
She wanted to feel every part of him, wanted to feel the love that he held for her.
She leaned forward and kissed him deeply.
He matched her passion. Tempest was sure he was feeling the same way.
After all, he was about to go off to battle. He was about to go back into a warzone. Facing unknown enemies for an unknown amount of time.
Soon the passion exploded out of them, and Don was kicking off the sheets so he could get to her body.
Tempest allowed him to do everything he wanted to her. She wanted him to have something to remember when he was off on his own. And she wanted to remember him when she was stuck in this house on her own.
She held him as tight as she could.
But she couldn’t get close enough. She wanted to feel him in her soul.
"I’ll go through the fires of war to get back to you. Believe me, neck, and she felt it in her heart. She knew he was telling the truth. He truly meant that, but she didn’t want to leave anything up to chance. She knew that she would find a way to get to him.
Even if it wasn’t what he wanted her to do.
Slowly, they came together. This session of lovemaking wasn’t lacking passion or desire, but it seemed as if they didn’t want the night to end.
If this was the last time they were guaranteed to be together, Tempest was more than okay with taking things slowly.
Even her orgasms built up slowly. Dron still made sure that she got her pleasure.
They held each other and whispered sweet nothings in their ears. Tempest told Dron how much she cared for him and that he was strong enough to get through whatever was thrown at him. She wanted him to be completely aware of how much she believed in him.
Tempest was scared. Probably more scared than she had been since she was brought to this planet.
She was about to be on her own again. Sure, Gerax and Maznik promised that they would be around to watch over her, but she knew that wasn’t the same as Dron being there.
Tempest put all of that out of her mind; she would come up with a plan on her own, but right now all she wanted to do was be here on her last night with Dron.
Their connection was strong, and she knew that it wouldn’t go away simply because they were apart.
Tonight was about them being together and remembering exactly what they were both about to sacrifice for.
