Chapter 94: Chapter 94 First The Alpha Then The Father
Kevin’s breath caught in his throat, a raw scream tearing from his lips as Reginald yanked his hand free, taking a massive piece of flesh with it.
"What... what..." Kevin’s chest heaved violently, his pulse thundering as he struggled to process what had just happened to him.
Reginald gazed down at Kevin’s crumpled form on the floor. Crimson spread beneath his body while his healing powers desperately tried to save him, but it was useless. Without a healer’s intervention, he would bleed out completely.
"This..."
"Screw you, Kevin. You really think I’m gonna help you?" Reginald’s laugh was cold and mocking. "I haven’t forgotten how cocky you were, thinking you could push me around just because you’re the alpha. Alpha, my ass."
Reginald dropped to a crouch as Kevin reached out with trembling fingers, trying to wrap them around Reginald’s throat. The other shifter just laughed at the pathetic attempt.
"Now you’re at my mercy. How’s it feel being the weak one?" Reginald cocked an eyebrow, then seized Kevin’s hand. One by one, he snapped each finger.
Reginald savored every moment, Kevin’s screams like music to his ears.
"Bet you never saw this coming, huh?" Another finger cracked. "That I’d be the one to end you someday. You should’ve been nicer to me. Should’ve made me your beta, but you didn’t because you thought I was too wild.
Still think that now?"
Another finger crushed.
"Go... to hell, Reginald. You’re gonna pay for what... you’re doing to me." Kevin’s breathing was ragged now, his heart fluttering like a dying bird.
If looks could kill, Reginald would be dead. Too bad that’s not how the world worked.
"Nah. I don’t think so." Reginald grabbed Kevin’s face. "You should’ve treated me right.
Or at least, you should’ve shared Phoebe with me when I asked nicely. Now it’s too late for you."
"Screw you... Screw..."
Kevin’s curse died as Reginald shattered his jaw. Gurgling sounds replaced the alpha’s cries, then silence fell as Kevin’s jaw went slack and he stilled. His heart had stopped.
But Reginald wasn’t done. He tore the heart from Kevin’s chest and crushed it in his fist.
Blood splattered across his face, warm and invigorating. Reginald relished the sensation. He’d dreamed of this moment for years.
"You should’ve treated me right."
Reginald rose to his feet. He stared down at Kevin’s mutilated corpse with cold indifference. In his mind, Kevin deserved worse. Unfortunately, time was short - he still had to help with the coup.
But first, he had a visit to make to Cameron and his step-sister...
A vicious smile played on his lips, but it vanished when he turned to his warriors. "The king killed alpha Kevin. His body’s still inside. Go get it. I’m going to find former beta Cameron."
The five warriors were stunned to learn the alpha was dead. Something felt off, but they didn’t dare question it.
"Yes, sir."
Two of them entered Kevin’s cell and saw the alpha’s condition. They couldn’t help but vomit. It was a horrific sight.
Meanwhile, Reginald headed to Cameron’s interrogation room first. He opened the door to find Cameron sitting on the floor, blood seeping from his wounds. He’d been through hell when Timothy extracted information from him.
"Dad," Reginald called out. He approached his stepfather and crouched in front of him. "You okay? It’s alright. Backup’s here. You’re gonna be fine."
Cameron lifted his head and looked at Reginald. "Kevin..." he said breathlessly.
"Don’t worry. I killed him," Reginald replied.
This had been their plan all along. They would eliminate Kevin during the chaos while trying to kill the king.
"Good." Cameron nodded with relief. He’d hatched this plan in secret, finalizing it when Reginald visited him in the dungeon.
With Reginald’s influence over the warriors, slipping in had been easy.
Cameron’s motivation for killing Kevin was simple - he despised the man, and he’d hurt his daughter.
It was difficult to admit, but seeing Phoebe and her terrible condition during the year Kevin used her as his plaything had sparked an anger he’d only recently acknowledged.
"Come on, let me help you," Reginald said, extending his hand. But Cameron didn’t take it immediately. Instead, he showed the silver bracelet on his wrist.
"Remove this," Cameron said calmly.
Reginald stared at the silver bracelet a beat too long, then did as his stepfather asked.
His skin burned when he touched the silver, but he made no sound.
"Let’s get Phoebe," Cameron said, standing up. He walked toward the door.
But he sensed it before he saw it. The sudden killing intent radiating from behind him, from Reginald.
Cameron immediately shifted into his beast form.
This was exactly why he’d asked Reginald to remove his silver bracelet first, while still pretending he was there to help.
After all, if Reginald could betray his alpha, Cameron wouldn’t put it past him to betray him too.
Unfortunately, Reginald’s claws raked across Cameron’s back as the beta’s beast whimpered and collapsed to the ground.
