Chapter 87: Since that Day, The World (2)
We were in the city too, Weiss and I, our one night dinner in the Blue Danube still pending.
"Enteki! Let me build that for you."
"Oh... thank you, Mr. Ent!"
The people were getting along well. Stone paths were spreading across the city like a web, bordered by roots of trees.
Tree magic was the best thing that the Ents had brought us, and with them the building of the city had switched up again.
Stone laid after stone. It was a spiderweb being made onto the forest floor.
Houses had started to change too. While I had developed the fertilizer with Enteki 1, our biggest goal was to build the architecture of the city.
And so we did.
Houses that were framed with wood and roots, a mix of stone slabs, bricks, and tree magic. Tree magic was particularly helpful in the aesthetics.
"So, you just take mud and bake it in a kiln?" Little Delka asked as we stood near the new facility we were building.
In the area, the riverbed where the trees were living, we had started by making a large oven. A kiln for a better, more accurate term.
It was quite simple, really. The bricks were going to be our main source.
On the side, I oversaw another part of the construction. The lord of the city and all the civil servants selected by the Aethelgard Empire were the main elements of this part of the construction.
An irrigation channel. They were redirecting parts of the flowing river, in proper metrics to build a farmland.
Lady Soyenne came next to me, wiping her head.
"The seeds for the plantation are ready. Only half of the warehouse came here, but we got lucky."
I nodded.
"At least we have enough crops to make things right now."
That was when, I heard a voice.
"Butler, Butler come here,"
On the cliff above, that overlooked this place (what with all the trees covering it now gone) I saw my dear witch standing.
I bowed to Soyenne, and she smiled.
"You two sure adore each other."
"Of course," I said. "I am her butler after all."
"Oh dear, I have been living the life of a noble for a long time, Mr. Phantom, you are no butler but her best friend."
I reeled back at that for a second. Then, a sigh left me.
"That’s true."
"How adorable. You two probably call each other by name back in the Grim Palace, yes?"
Delka chuckled at that statement, and I gripped his hand tight as if to shut him up. How embarrassing! This lady was seeing right through me.
"I wish you all the best, go now, she’s calling."
"Hah. It’s probably about some work."
"We just can’t thank you enough."
"I didn’t mean it that way, Miss Soyenne."
"Miss? Oh, flirt."
It was my time to shudder now. What the hell was this old lady saying. Without wasting more time, I rushed over to Weiss.
There, she stood with a brick in her hand.
Strangely enough... the brick was glowing.
"What’s that?" I asked.
She tossed it down the cliff.
I was about to reach for it, when she snapped her fingers and the brick itself changed shape into a butterfly. My eyes widened as the brick flew around, a spin behind me, and fell in my hands again.
"The magic stones we sold were all in the guild still, Goldberg came to me with them."
"Oh?"
"He’s also supposed to be dead, so he can’t go back either. But he will get in contact with his guild in someway he said."
"The adventurers sure have a strong sense of justice. Anyway, you made this with that?"
"Cool, right? The recipe is simple, make these bricks in your kiln."
Weiss and I met eyes.
A smile covered both our lips.
For us, and for these people, who were abandoned by the world once.
If we were going to make a city, we sure as hell would make it stronger than anything.
Anything.

The recipe for the bricks changed. On top of all of this, the wizards and alchemists in the city came together as well.
We let them have a lot of the books from the Grim Palace, and started building many different things with whatever little resources we had.
Enteki 1 had started to be very involved with the city building, especially from the Ents’ side.
The Gnome Golem at forefront, and Soyenne, the guards, and this tree now. We were still looking for talent and resources, it had barely been enough days since we came here.
Yet.
Life seemed a lot more hopeful.

The last obscurer was safely kept in the Grim Palace before we left. So, using that very thing, guests had come back to the city and the Grim Palace today.
Adam and Arlene were on their way to the city, along with them came some members of the Reinvelt Knights. Dumas, Nea, a lady named Rachel and one Keith.
It was in the Grim Palace they came afterward.
"Woah! Miss Weiss, Phantom? Are you here!"
A voice outside.
"Woah! WoahhH! Why are we fighting again!?"
"You don’t have to treat us as intruders again!!"
"Holy shit, these big guys are tough. Woah, Nea, Keith, get some training in—"
Treska knocked on the study door and stepped inside. Weiss was laying over her table while I sat on a chair nearby.
"We have intruders. I guess its better to call them guests now?"
"Adam?" I asked.
"Yup."
Weiss came out to the hall and so did I.
When Adam’s eyes fell on me, he jumped and ran over before pulling me in a tight embrace.
From behind, I could feel a burning gaze.
It was Nea...!
"My friend! How have you been?"
Arlene spoke from the side, smiling. "Miss Weiss, you people have started to transform the city. It’s the first time I am seeing monsters live with humans."
"They weren’t bad kids," Weiss remarked.
The chill kept coming to me.
If I wanted to survive in this place! I had to do something to make amends with Nea...
