Chapter 82: ProtestEnt
Our trip started by going down the cliff. Not from the area where the Ents were, but through to the place where we had found the first one.
"So, it was crying on that day too?"
Weiss nodded. "It kept saying forest this forest that, we were all too busy resting after escaping with our lives, so we shooed it away."
"As you should."
What was anyone supposed to do, pat the Ent’s back and tell it did well? As if that would work.
Once down, we started walking through the trees. The way to find the Ents was quite simple, any of them could hear anything through the trees.
So I dragged out a small knife and started scratching on one tree.
"Miss Witch, let’s set this entire forest on fire."
"I like that idea. Then we can plant new trees in the ashes, and set them to fire again."
"Oooh, sounds perfect to me."
The tree started writhing in pain. Soon enough, we heard large tremors. If someone heard this they would generally think an earthquake was underway, but this was not too unfamiliar for us.
"S-stop! What are you planning to do, thy heathens!"
Without waiting even a second, Weiss snapped her fingers and dragged the Tree up high in the sky.
"EEEEK!"
It screamed.
"Unhand me! Unhand me you foul beast."
"Hehehehehe..." A chuckle left her.
Even the two living armors behind were not immune to the sight. Generally, wouldn’t a demon be holding and playing around with the beautiful girl while making this creepy laughing sound? And the beautiful girl should be saying things like...
"W-what do you want to do with me! Unhand me! I don’t wish to be sullied by the likes of you!"
"Ew..."
Weiss was pissed off a bit more. Thinking about it, this girl was really no different from the evil monster that lives deep in the dungeon. The final boss level character.
She leaned in, and whispered in my ear.
At this, even the tree had nothing to say anymore. It’s branches fell limp and weak, surrendered to its fate.
This girl was cracked. There was no way anything was getting through her.
"You’ve had so much practice..." I muttered. "Why are you doing this?"
She whispered in my ears again. Khus khus phus phus.
"Drunk? Ah, as the leader? Oh... I see."
With a sigh, I finally turned to the tree again.
"Oi, Ent, long time no see, huh?"
"We are starting from there? you are unbelievable heathens!"
"Alright, alright. What is that protest about? This city is under Miss Witch’s protection right here."
I presented her with both hands, and Weiss cutely nodded.
"You don’t do jackshit if you don’t want to be beat up."
"I-I am afraid I can’t do that! You guys are the ones who have invaded our territory, you must leave!"
Oh? Bold. We didn’t expect it to be coming at us with clear statements against the settlement.
"We were here first!"
"And?"
"Kuhhh! Evil human! W-what do you expect us to do? We have nowhere else to go, you have taken most of the safe parts of the forest!"
When it shouted that bit out, we finally exchanged glances again and let it come down.
Maybe it would be best to talk to this thing after all.
"I’ll show you..." the Ent said. "The real problem with all this."

The Ent led us deeper into the forest. We sat on its branches (again, just for the fucks of it) while the two living armors, who were just a little smaller than a tree, walked behind us.
It couldn’t complain about this too. Further into the forest, below the small cliffside, we reached a spot of the forest that was littered with tiny patches of grass.
There were no sitting trees here, but a lot of Ents. Though none of the roots in this place extended all the way into the depths of the soil, all the trees here made it seem like a real forest.
There were small trees, and old trees.
Their leaves had started to become brown and yellow as the sun overhead streamed down.
"Hoh?"
I muttered as I saw this place.
"All your Ents living here?"
"Most of us..." the Ent said. "There is little rain here, and there is not enough water to sustain all of us."
The Ent said.
When it bowed down, the other Ents started looking at us as we got off. Even the little trees were thin and shriveled, while the old ones and their branches and roots looked brittle and dry.
On the ground, alongside the grass, was a cascade of yellow and brown leaves.
The ents hesitated to come closer. They were big in numbers, but they were weak.
It was then, that another tree from behind them all came forward.
"Brother Enteki! You have brought humans here!?"
This one was green, much like our Ent. So he had a name.
"Brother Enteki..." Our Ent called back to him. What the fuck? Both of them were named Enteki?
"Go away! Humans. Do want this space too? We will die before giving you more land!"
"Enteki! That’s not what this is about."
"Enteki is right, Enteki. We must hear them out."
"You stay out of this, Enteki, this is between Enteki and I!"
What the fuck was going on.
I quickly stepped forward and shook my hands.
"Listen to us first. Enteki, Enteki, Enteki. Since we humans are here, isn’t it better for us to speak?"
Weiss looked at me with narrowed eyes. She couldn’t digest how quickly I had accepted this Enteki mess.
I wanted to see how many Entekis I could say before it stopped making sense to them, but well.
"We should have a conversation first," I said. "You are saying you will attack the humans if they don’t leave, unfortunately we can’t have that."
"D-do you not see our young? Look at little Enteki, and at little Enteki there," the one on the other side, should I just start numbering them? Ours was 1, this annoying one was 2. I decided to hold off on 3 and 4 and so on, it would be best to keep them safe.
"You humans have all kind of place everywhere, so just leave us alone."
We would... we would.
Unfortunately, they were standing on really tasty land.
And I wanted that.
