Chapter 286: Chapter 286 – Brutes.
Brutes
A special form of organization that is serving directly under the duke Karol Dun.
This organization is many things and does many different kind of jobs.
However, the best way to describe them is this.
The extermination squad.
Most of their jobs involves in exterminating something or somebody.
Be it an assassination.
Or a full-frontal war.
As for their leader?
His name is Gerald.
He was once the royal knight captain of the Warmur kingdom.
However, he ended up quitting hist post.
But why?
Simply put, he was brutal.
Too brutal.
He was a beast. A murder.
A scum.
But at the same time, he was far too effective.
The position of the royal knight captain was nothing more than something that held him back.
....So, the duke Karol made decision.
To create a brand-new military group.
The Brutes.
It doesn’t care who or what they are or were.
As long as they were useful, they were used.
And the moment Gerald joined Brutes? He was able to let loose.
He shown his real potential once the restrains over him were gone... And he was able to show off his pure brutal nature.
"So, let me get this straight." – said Gerald.
"The entire territory isn’t watched directly by empire, but by the looks of things they have some people placed around in the neighboring territories."
"And you believe that they are watching or if not maybe also making sure nobody enters the territory." – said the hooded chhipakalee, a humanoid race being with lizard-like traits.
"From what we had gathered, the dungeon has really done anything, like at all, ever since the peace treaty was officially signed."
"But the people still don’t trust the dungeon."
"Same on our end." – said the younger brother of duo.
"The people, especially those who had fought the golem dungeon and those who originally lived in Mevon territory, are straight up boiling with rage."
"The atmosphere in the place we were staying at was somewhat... Well? Sad." – said the older brother.
"I think it maybe because of all the refuges that were relocated there against their will."
"But still, I didn’t heard anything either about attacks or even golems appearing near the boarders."
"Hm.... I don’t think we will find much with this kind of investigation." – said annoyed Gerald as he just sat down on the massive fallen tree.
"?"
"Em, what is that?" – asked the older brother as he noticed a massive brown skinned bear with a back completely covered in spikes, which was laying right next to Gerlad, with its head being detached from the body.
"Hm? Ah this. Some random ass bear that suddenly appeared." – said Gerald.
"Don’t worry about it."
(Isn’t this a berserker bear? A C rank monster?) – thought the older brother.
(And from what I see, he must had decapitated it in a single strike before it could had done anything.)
(Still... One thing if it was any C-rank monster, but the berserker bears are known for their high offensive power AND high defensive power... And yet, only single strike?)
(You don’t even need to wonder who is the beast between the two.)
"What about that dungeon invested territory?" – asked Gerald.
"No good. They are not moving like mindless monsters. They are moving like soldiers, doing patrols and what not." – said the female hooded figure.
"Honestly speaking, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some golems there with detection ability."
"?"
"Golems can do that?" – asked Gerald.
"According to our intel, golems can be attached with magic devices and be even given some item skills."
"However, there is problem regarding their knowledge of using the said skills in the first place."
"It apparently takes a lot of talent, understanding and personal skills to be able have golem use any of these things."
"And if this dungeon can truly produce golems with detection ability, then the threat level ended up increasing at the alarming rate."
"How much?" – asked Gerald.
"Enough." – replied the hooded woman.
"..."
"Maybe it will be fun." – said Gerald.
"Still, are you saying that we cannot sneak in?"
"We maybe could sneak some of our stealth specialist.... But sneaking in large number of combatants, directly in the middle of that monster infested territory won’t be easy." – replied the hooded woman.
"And I do know you like fighting, you crazy bastard."
"But taking on the entire army of monster with our current numbers may not be enough."
"The only way we could pull it off would be with entire Brute group. Each squadron may need to be present."
"You say that, but we are talking here about more than 300 people." – said the chhipakalee.
"All of them maybe elites, which are worth more than 10 soldiers each."
"But still, sneaking in over 300 people, here, so close, it won’t be easy."
"It already took us sometime to sneak into this place with just 30 of us."
"Hm... Can’t we just attack the dungeon head on?" – asked Gerald.
"Again, army of monsters." – replied the chhipakalee.
"Then why don’t we just our own army to deal with those fuckers?" – replied Gerlad.
"You said that the people despises the dungeon and want it gone, right?"
"Then why not rally them up and have attack the dungeon, acting as out meat shields while we go for the kill?"
"Bad idea boss. The empire has too many eyes in the entire area around that monster infested territory." – said the younger brother.
"Tch. So, it won’t work? I thought I had it....Hm... What about feral monsters?" - asked annoyed Gerald.
"Won’t work either. The empire was dead set on dealing with monster after it had formed, that they have shit tons of countermeasures ready to deal with monsters." – replied the younger brother.
"Hm..."
(This is really annoying then.) – thought Gerald.
(One thing is reaching the dungeon and another is army of golems on standby.)
(Not only that, there is also empire in the mix.)
(And I don’t fucking want to do a suicide run.)
(Empire has too many eyes here....Do we just wait until every single member.... No. We also would need some equipment with power.)
(Probably we wouldn’t get far without getting spotted once we start for moving for real... Extermination of these "eyes" would be the only way to go, but it would only delay the alarm... However, at the same time, it would alarm set off with 100%)
(We could probably reach the dungeon by having some heavy loses, but returning back would pretty much we could end up getting wiped out.)
(Manifested dungeon monsters will not die or disaster after the dungeon they were born from were to get destroyed.)
(But what would these golems even do?)
(I mean, would they fallow their original order of destroying the invaders? Or would empire get a full control over them?)
"Ah.... The problem is numbers, isn’t it?" – said Gerald.
"Is there any way we can secure enough meat shields for us to get enough time to go and destroy that dungeon and get the fuck out?"
"...Should we give up on this job?" – asked the hooded woman.
"Look. I get that the pay is extremely good and what not."
"But from what I’m seeing right now, this would be nothing more that a suicidal run that could wipe us out by the hands of empire." – said the hooded woman, as one by one, each of the gathered members were agreeing.
"Hm.... I honestly don’t really like this job... But again, if we lose the Warmur kingdom, which is our home and our best clients... So pretty much we would have to start all over and we would be nothing more than criminals, with what we are." – said Gerald.
"Maybe if we had some kind of spare plan, then I would be willing to do it.... But let’s think bit more."
"Is there really nothing we can’t do?"
"Boss, you are straight up asking for impossible stuff now." – said the younger brother.
"What? Are you going to have some kingdom attack the empire to create a distraction?"
"..."
"Actually... Wouldn’t that work?" – asked Gerald.
"The only possible way it could even work for us, if we make the empire have their hands full with something."
"You want them to get locked in the war with somebody? Are you freaking crazy?" – asked the younger brother.
"I need to agree with this guy on it." – replied the older brother.
"Our objective is to get rid of that dungeon as soon as possible, the more we delay it, the more golems will be made and the more dungeon will grow."
"Starting off the war won’t be easy nor will it be quick."
"Yes, that is correct." – said Gerlad as he revealed his massive grim on his face.
"But let me rephrase that."
"We need army that is just big enough to distract the empire."
"It doesn’t really need to even wound empire."
"It just needs to keep them busy for just a moment."
"Again, where the fuck we would get something like that?" – asked annoyed younger brother.
"Oh, don’t worry about that." – replied Gerald.
"I have already a perfect ally who will do that dirty job for us."
