Chapter 2390: Chapter 2390 Dragging The Main Troop
The commanders were in no hurry, but Lord Zhenxing thought otherwise.
Such a city-wide tension couldn’t drag on indefinitely. No one was willing to wait any longer, the two commanders initially advocated for immediate action were losing patient.
Therefore, five army leaders felt they had to launch a joint attack.
Their forces advanced in formation. Two main assault armies at the front, with three more covering the flanks, pressing toward the Shangwu Legion.
"Blue Armour vanguard, fall back!"
The clone immediately ordered the frontliners to retreat without engaging in the battle.
In an instant, the vanguard of the Shangwu Legion switched places with the rear guard, who now had the lead.
However, the onslaught of opposing forces had already commenced. The two commanders quickly conferred and decided to charge headlong into the new rear guard.
"Engage!" At the clone’s command, fifty thousand Black Armoured soldiers surged forward to meet them.
The elite Black Armour soldiers fought with dreadful efficiency despite being outnumbered four to one. And to really turn the tables on the adversary, the double-cross unleashed a legion of devil beasts on their ranks. The opposing forces gained no advantage.
In the opening clash, Ye Liuyun shattered their front lines and nearly broke through to their central command.
However, when the enemy’s two flanking armies of a hundred thousand men proceeded to encircle and reinforce, Ye Liuyun quickly withdrew his fifty thousand warriors. They retreated behind the Blue Armour forces and set up camp again to recuperate.
"Are they mocking us?"
The two hotheaded commanders, smarting from their losses, grew furious at the sight of their foes resting so casually after battle. They wanted to charge straight into the rearguard.
But the other three held them back.
"Their combat strength is formidable. We mustn’t act recklessly. If we succumb to their deceit, the loss of 200,000 of our troops would not ensure the elimination of their 100,000 troops.
"Exactly. They have no chance against us if we stay consistent, keep our momentum, and capitalise on our advantages."
With that, the other three commanders eventually managed to talk the two down.
After regrouping with disciplined precision, they launched another assault on the Blue Armour Army.
The moment they clashed with the Blue Armour forces, Ye Liuyun sprang into action.
He deployed all 50,000 of his soldiers in a coordinated strike against the Lord’s Manor.
Though the manor’s defensive formation had been activated, Ye Liuyun’s troops unleashed his puppet beasts, war chariots, and crystal cannons, shattering the defences in mere moments with ruthless efficiency.
"Charge!"
The battle cries inside the manor shook the heavens, yet the war chariots and feral beasts ripped through the Praetorian’s defences like paper. The constant onslaught of energy cannons instantly destroyed any guard who dared to counterattack.
Every martial practitioner and city guard in the capital gaped in disbelief, wondering where this mystery rebel force had come from.
No one could have imagined storing an entire force of 50,000 armies within a spatial world.
Lord Zhenxing panicked, immediately ordering the city guards to reinforce the manor while recalling the five commanders for backup.
But by then, the 50,000 Blue Armour troops had already entangled his 200,000 armies in brutal combat.
A retreat now would only mean disaster for the engaged forces.
The five commanders hastily gathered for an emergency discussion.
"Turning back now would be too late. The rebels have already breached the defensive formations of the Lord’s Manor."
"Besides, if we retreat at this moment, our losses would be even greater!"
"Exactly. The city has ten thousand praetorians, thirty thousand garrison troops, and martial practitioners from numerous major factions. Let them hold out a little longer!"
"Our priority is to annihilate these fifty thousand Blue Armour troops before we even consider sending for reinforcements."
After some deliberation, none of them responded to Lord Zhenxing’s frantic call for help.
Little did they know that Lord Zhenxing’s mansion’s defences were significantly weaker than they imagined.
In reality, it wasn’t the mansion’s guards who were lacking. Rather, Ye Liuyun had spent the previous three days training his forces to get familiar with the enemy’s equipment.
Once they used these weapons, the praetorians would be completely defenceless. They would be like lambs to the slaughter.
When Ye Liuyun breached the Lord’s Manor, he stationed ten thousand martial practitioners along the surrounding walls to repel the attacking garrison troops.
The major factions within the city, witnessing such a massive assault on the Lord’s Manor, dared not intervene. They merely watched as the garrison forces charged in.
Although the garrison troops outnumbered Ye Liuyun’s men, their cultivation levels were significantly lower. Ye Liuyun’s elite soldiers quickly surrounded and slaughtered them.
At that point, Ye Liuyun had already attacked the praetorians into disarray and led his army into the main hall.
No one came to Lord Zhenxing’s aid, despite his repeated calls for reinforcements from the army outside the city and the major factions within. The only ones who responded to his plea were the garrison soldiers.
Knowing his doom was imminent, he beheld Ye Liuyun’s entrance into the hall. He was ready to make a last, desperate stand with the help of a small group of devoted followers.
However, Ye Liuyun’s Golden Phantom Eyes flashed, unleashing a ray of white light that struck him dead.
With another swift slash, Lord Zhenxing’s head rolled onto the ground. Without hesitation, he swiftly collected his interspatial ring and the corpse before he dashed toward the royal treasury.
With the fall of Lord Zhenxing, the remaining praetorians surrendered en masse.
After thoroughly ransacking the Lord’s Manor, Ye Liuyun immediately commanded his troops to split into multiple forces, storming into the merchant guilds and several major factions.
Outside the city, the Blue Armour Army fought desperately, stubbornly pinning down the two advancing forces.
The other three divisions, however, were warily watching the remaining 50,000 enemy forces, not daring to withdraw prematurely.
Since time was still flowing in his favour, Ye Liuyun took advantage of the situation to plunder more resources.
Anarchy has spread across the entire capital. The merchant guilds, particularly those in the city, were extremely wealthy, making Ye Liuyun feel like he had struck gold, and every major party was being plundered.
He also captured numerous blacksmiths and alchemists from the Lord’s Manor and the guilds. By the end, he didn’t even bother with the martial practitioners anymore.
Once the looting was complete, he immediately rallied his soldiers at the city gates, stashed them all into his Spatial World, donned his Concealcape, and slipped out of the capital unnoticed.
Meanwhile, his clone had already made the rounds through the enemy tents, one by one, and had likewise stowed away all fifty thousand soldiers into the Spatial World. Cloaked in his Concealcape, he left behind nothing but an eerily empty camp.
The sacrificed Blue Armour soldier battled valiantly until the end. Their ferocity was so overwhelming that they nearly wiped out a hundred thousand enemy troops.
By the time the Blue Armour Army was annihilated, the two forces that had engaged them had suffered losses of over half their numbers.
They quickly fell back to serve as the rear guard while the remaining three divisions moved to surround the rear camp of the Shangwu Legion.
Yet when they charged in, they found nothing but deserted tents.
"Where are they?"
"D*rn! We’ve been tricked!"
Only then did the five commanders realize they’d been fooled by Ye Liuyun.
They immediately turned their troops around, but before they could enter the city, they spotted chaos erupting within the walls.
"It’s over! Lord Zhenxing seems to have been killed!"
"What? How is that possible?"
"Maybe he’s just in hiding?"
The commanders stood frozen in shock. Rushing in to investigate before they finally confirmed the grim truth. That Lord Zhenxing had indeed been slain.
