Chapter 2333: Chapter 2333 A Breeze to Achieve
The deadly incident was a sobering lesson to Ye Liuyun and his friends. They were still in danger from the Sanctuary Land martial practitioners and their formidable artefacts.
"We can never underestimate the enemy again!" the clone warned the group sternly.
He then gathered the corpses and handed them over to Lan Xin to handle.
Now, even the martial practitioner’s virtuoso could be transformed into usable energy for the Demon beasts through the Multipurpose Cauldron, ensuring nothing went to waste. These were all premium cultivation resources.
As for the corpses, they would serve as nourishment for the Devil beasts. Making use of every part of it.
The others soon retreated into Ye Liuyun’s Spatial world. Without proper identification and unfamiliar with the area, it was wiser for them to stay out of sight to avoid unnecessary trouble.
He checked into an inn and then bought a map of the city from a merchant guild. With deliberate pace, he explored the streets, familiarising himself with each and every one.
He also took the opportunity to scout the three assassination targets assigned by Scythe.
The first target was a gambling den manager, the second was the eldest son of the prominent Mao family, and the third was a local tyrant notorious for his brutality.
Scythe’s intel had provided him with their usual haunts.
The gambling den manager was the easiest to locate since he never left the establishment. However, surrounded by numerous enforcers, he was a difficult mark nonetheless. Moreover, he seemed acutely aware of the threat to his life, constantly scanning his surroundings with wary eyes.
Even when Ye Liuyun merely passed by outside, the manager swept him with a probing Divine Sense. Only after confirming his low cultivation level did the scrutiny cease.
The local tyrant, meanwhile, was always escorted by numerous bodyguards as he extorted protection money from small businesses in the area.
The Mao family’s eldest son, however, remained elusive that day.
The next day, the clone altered his appearance using the Phantom Illusion and strolled through the tyrant’s territory with Mo Shaowen and Liu Yang in tow, deliberately drawing his attention.
"You there, come here!" the bully barked at the clone and his companions after a few spottings.
"Us?" the clone asked, feigning oblivion even though he knew exactly why they were being summoned.
"Do you know who I am? This is my turf..." The bully swaggered toward Ye Liuyun, already reaching out his arm, attempting to snatch their storage rings.
But the clone had no patience for his bluster. Seeing the man approach willingly, he signalled Liu Yang and Mo Shaowen with a glance. Instantly, they launched a Divine Soul attack, yanking the bully’s Ocean of Consciousness into the cone’s mental realm.
Meanwhile, the clone gathered dark energy in his palm, poised to strike the moment any guards dared to intervene. One reckless move from the guards, and he’d obliterate their divine souls without hesitation.
Earlier, the clone had drained his Divine soul with this technique. Now, hungering for replenishment, he saw this arrogant fool as the perfect fuel.
But he’d overestimated the guards’ loyalty. He thought this was just some local thug. No hired muscle would risk their lives for him.
Seizing the opportunity, the clone Divine Soul unleashed a brutal assault within the mental realm. He tore into the bully’s divine soul with thunder and Ghostic Fire, devouring his Divine Soul in full.
Liu Yang and Mo Shaowen withdrew their Divine Souls just as swiftly.
By the time the guards realised what was happening, it was too late.
Thud, thud, thud...
Three dull thud resounded one after another.
The three guards’ chest had been ripped with a bestial claw.
The clone had stationed Phantom Hand, Xenocide, the Vespera, and the Tiger King in stealth. With each of them executing their assignments with precision.
Later, in a blur of motion, the bully’s limp body suddenly lurched sideways. It was snatched by a martial practitioner speeding toward the scene.
"Hahaha! What a lucky break!"
The martial practitioner laughed heartily as he swiftly stashed the thug’s corpse into his Interspatial ring before he fled.
The clone wasn’t about to let anyone snatch his prey right under his nose. It was clear this martial practitioner was another assassin sent by the Stygian.
Without hesitation, the clone chased after him with Spatial Overlap, closing the distance in an instant.
"You’re dead!" Sensing the spatial disturbance behind him, the martial practitioner glanced back and saw that the clone was alone in pursuit. He raised his hand, ready to strike.
But at that moment, a beam of white light shot from the clone’s pupils, piercing straight through the martial practitioner’s skull.
With a casual wave, the clone collected the lifeless body into his Interspatial ring.
Meanwhile, Phantom Hand and Tiger King had already dealt with the remaining guards. Their corpses likewise had been collected into the Interspatial Ring.
"Retreat!"
The clone signalled, pulling them all into his Spatial World before donning his Concealcape and vanishing without a trace.
Ye Liuyun had long gone back to his inn by the time the city patrol arrived at the scene.
Nearby residents had fled in terror as soon as the fight erupted, with none of them knowing what happened afterwards or where the attacker had gone.
Besides, the locals had long despised the thug and his gang. They were practically rejoicing in his demise, let alone reporting it. With all the thugs and their guards gone, there wasn’t a single witness left to offer clues.
The only sign of a conflict that the patrol guards discovered was bloodstains on the ground.
Since the thug’s group often congregated there, they rationalised the altercation as just another of their brawl. They merely shrugged and moved on.
The clone returned to the inn and searched the martial practitioner’s possession. He then severed the thug’s head and retrieved the assassin’s emblem. Both were valuable items that could be exchanged for points and resources. He stored both of them in his Interspatial Ring.
The remaining resources were given to Lan Xin.
"These martial practitioners here seem surprisingly wealthy!" Lan Xin remarked after noticing that the recent plunder from the Interspatial rings far exceeded what they usually obtained from martial practitioners in the God Realm.
"Indeed. Once we complete the missions, I’ll seek out Weapon-refining masters in this area," the clone replied.
After devouring the tyrant’s Divine Soul, the clone donned the Concealcape once again and slipped out of the inn. He shifted into the guise of a gambler before removing the Concealcape and releasing Mo Shaowen. Together, they headed straight for the gambling den.
Upon arrival, Mo Shaowen used an illusionary spell to control the casino manager while Ye Liuyun directly targeted the man’s Divine soul.
The manager’s Divine Sense defences were weak, making him an easy mark.
As for the casino’s enforcers, Ye Liuyun left them to Phantom Hand, Xenocide, and the other invisible operatives to deal with.
The moment they struck, chaos erupted in the gambling den. Patrons scrambled to snatch gambling chips and Spirit crystals amid the chaos.
As soon as Ye Liuyun exterminated the manager’s Divine soul, he instantly hid the corpse to prevent other assassins from taking it. After that, he secretly returned his squad to the Spatial World and slipped out of sight in his Concealcape.
The moment he stepped outside, a swarm of patrol guards hurried towards the casino.
Hence, he stood by the roadside unmovingly so as not to raise any alarm.
The guards stormed past him without a second glance, charging straight into the chaotic casino.
In an instant, the clone completed two assassination missions and took a large haul of additional resources.
Next, he paved his way to the Mao residence to deal with the next target.
He first approached the estate gates and used his Divine soul to dominate one of the guards. Through him, he learned that the target had been holed up at home lately, too afraid to step outside. More likely aware that someone was after his life.
The clone waited until the guards changed shifts at night before taking action. He attacked and killed one of the off-duty guards, then assumed his identity to get inside the estate. Upon entering, he proceeded directly to the target’s quarters.
