Chapter 2328: Chapter 2328 Leave No Survivor
Ye Liuyun saw that the weapons, riches, and elixirs here were of far greater quality than those in the God Realm, but they were also significantly more expensive.
Despite seeing numerous appealing products in the merchant guild, Ye Liuyun did not rush to make any purchases. Instead, he followed Yu Yao to a pub to gain an understanding of the local food and drink costs, before eventually asking Yu Yao to lead him to Stygian.
As they veered off the major streets, Yu Yao led Ye Liuyun into the neighbourhoods where ordinary residents resided. They wandered for a long time before they came to a small, dingy tavern and went inside.
Upon entering, Ye Liuyun noticed that there was only one table occupied. At that table were three rough-looking martial practitioners drinking and chatting.
An attendant leaned over the counter, appearing to be half asleep.
Upon seeing Yu Yao, the three drinkers halted in the middle of their conversation, and the sleepy attendant scarcely raised his head to look at him.
Without a word, Yu Yao drew a dagger and thudded it into the countertop.
"Show the way!"
That was all he said.
The attendant glanced at the pommel of the blade and then transmitted the address to Yu Yao by voice transmission. Yu Yao then signaled Ye Liuyun to follow him as he wrenched the dagger out of the countertop.
The three martial practitioners exchanged glances before calling for their bill. They tossed some Spirit Crystal onto the table and hurried out, trailing Yu Yao and Ye Liuyun at a distance.
The attendant paid them no mind. He collected the crystals in his palm with a languid wave before slumping back against the counter to resume his nap, leaving the table uncleared.
Ye Liuyun’s Divine sense promptly detected the three guys trailing after them.
"The men from the tavern are on to us," he warned Yu Yao through voice transmission.
"Interesting. Predators hunting predators," Yu Yao replied coolly. "We’ll deal with them once we got out of the city. Get ready to summon your fighters."
"Leaving the city again?" Ye Liuyun raised his eyebrow in surprise.
"Stygian’s hideouts vary by location. Some of their lair are within city walls. However, in this city, the entrance happens to be outside," Yu Yao explained patiently.
"But how will you know which is their contact points?" Ye Liuyun pressed.
"By their signature mark," Yu Yao replied as he lightly tapped the dagger attached on his belt. "Its the same symbol as this. It’s how we recognize each other."
"Are the three martial practitioners also members of the Stygian?" Then Ye Liuyun probed on.
With a grim nod, Yu Yao affirmed. "No locals would frequent that tavern. The assassins are always at each other’s throats. It’s a world where only the fittest survive."
On Ye Liuyun’s lips, a wry smile spread. "It doesn’t matter where one goes. Certain things remained the same."
The trio followed them brazenly, making no effort to conceal their movements.
As they exited the city gates, Ye Liuyun and his company did not bother to shake them off either.
"There is a dense forest that faces a cliff three thousand km west of here," Yu Yao pointed out. "Beside a charred tree, you should see an entryway chiselled into the cliff wall opposite it."
Even as they soared westward, their shadows followed closely behind.
"That forest is probably where they’ll strike," Yu Yao solemnly predicted.
All Ye Liuyun could do was smile as he continued to keep tabs on their pursuers and survey the area ahead with his Divine Sense.
Soon, the dark forest and jagged cliff came into view. Undoubtedly covered by gears, the cliff face showed no apparent entry. Undoubtedly, it had been concealed by some hidden mechanism.
It took Yu Yao and Ye Liuyun mere seconds to get to the edge of the jungle.
The moment they plunged into the dense forest, the three martial practitioners behind them immediately accelerated their pursuit. Releasing the overwhelming aura of Omnipotent Level, they enveloped Ye Liuyun and his companions.
Three experts with Omnipotent Level ganging up on one was as easy as snatching candy from a baby. This was practically a free meal served on a silver platter.
"Don’t even think of resisting. Hand over your Interspatial Rings, and I’ll make your death short and painless." A muscular, bearded martial practitioner made the threat without hesitation.
Ye Liuyun was washed over with frustration.
"Shouldn’t the standard line be, ’Spare your lives’? Since when had the line been changed to grant your death short and painless?" he enquired, perplexed.
The three martial practitioners exchanged looks, astonished that Ye Liuyun remained unfazed under their overbearing aura.
But the bearded man merely scoffed. "When I, Lion Slayer, attack, I never leave survivors. Meeting me is just your rotten luck."
Letting you keep your corpses intact is already an act of mercy. Otherwise, I’d chop you up and sell your remains to demonic cultivators as cultivation resources!"
"So, you’re simply harassing us because we are outnumbered?" Ye Liuyun fired back.
"That’s right! We’re bullying you because there are fewer of you!" The bearded man nodded earnestly, as if to express an apparent fact.
Then, the three of them burst into raucous laughter.
"Alright then."
With a resigned shrug, Ye Liuyun summoned his clone, Xue Rongtian, Xue Rongwu, Thousand Faces, and Twin Strike in one swift motion.
"Kill them," he said, a small sneer playing on the corner of his lips.
The three martial practitioners halted their laughter, shocked by the abrupt emergence of so many experts.
Ye Liuyun purposefully refrained from deploying more forces. He wanted to test these few men’s talent and provided them with combat experience. The same reason he prevented Yu Yao from joining the battle.
Meanwhile, his clone kept a close watch on the group, preventing the opponent’s escape attempts.
"If I could, I would have refined the foreign race’s third eye, too." Ye Liuyun thought to himself.
It didn’t take long for him to notice that the bearded man wasn’t an easy opponent.
Xue Rongtian and Xue Rongwu fought valiantly but failed to defeat him. On the other side, the Twin Strike pounded their enemies mercilessly, while Thousand Faces barely held his own.
Lion Slayer and his team were on edge since they knew Yu Yao hadn’t even joined the battle yet. However, they weren’t worried about Ye Liuyun and his clone much.
"Boss, I can’t hold on much longer!" The Twin Strike’s opponent yelled out to Lion Slayer.
"Incompetent!" Lion Slayer snarled before summoning an Omnipotent Level Lion to reinforce the struggling fighter.
At the same time, he intensified his attack, aiming to vanquish one opponent before Yu Yao stepped in.
Upon noticing the arrival of reinforcements, Ye Liuyun wasted no time in using his Scarlet Phantom Eyes to cast an illusion spell on the lion. Suddenly, the Twin Strike’s adversary seemed like an enemy to the beast.
Without hesitating, the lion swiped its enormous paw directly at the unwary martial practitioner.
The victim, who had been expecting help, was caught off guard when the lion’s claws struck him and instantly fractured his skull. The beast then shifted its attention to the martial practitioner engaged in combat with Thousand Faces.
Panic flashed across the martial practitioner’s face.
"Boss, what’s going on?!"
Lion Slayer instantly realised that the lion had been charmed by an illusion.
"Damn it!" he roared and tried to snap the beast out of its trance.
But the lion remained unresponsive, charging straight at the martial practitioner.
The martial practitioner barely held his defence against the lion when Thousand Faces’ fan swiftly sliced across his throat in a lethal arc.
Simultaneously, the lion sprang into action, its teeth gnashing into the man’s skull with an eerie crunch. Its jaws ripped the head apart in a series of brutal bites, shattering bones as it went.
