Chapter 2212: Chapter 2212 Activating Formation

Mo Xiaotian was at the palace waiting for the praetorian to deliver good news.

Meanwhile, Ye Liuyun watched the oncoming praetorian indifferently, as he ordered the fort soldiers to prepare for the battle.

They needed to be fully prepared for the battle even with the Formation in plan.

An overwhelming sense of terror gripped the fortress’s defenders. But their loyalty oath forbade them from fleeing, they had no choice but to fight back.

The storming praetorian noticed their terrified expressions and charged on resolutely.

Even if the intelligence was wrong, the praetorian’s commander believed that he could avoid losing all his men in the formation attack by splitting them into two groups with one thousand charging in the front line and the remaining following behind.

By coordinating his efforts both within and outside the Formation, he would eventually break it. After all, Ye Liu Yun didn’t have any well-known Formation masters who could help him. No Formation would be strong enough to defend his ninth Realm experts.

So, he simply ordered his troops to retreat a little to maintain some distance.

"Charge!"

When the distance was right, Ye Liuyun instructed the attack.

He ordered his fortress troops to unleash a barrage of tremendous archery, crystal cannon fire, enormous crossbows, and arrows to halt the charging praetorian.

Once these experts got close, the fortress defenders would surely perish.

The thousand charging praetorians on the frontline had difficulty advancing because to the ferocious defences, and some of them even took hits and fell.

Upon observing that no defensive formations were forming on the fortress wall, the commander dispatched his remaining thousand praetorians to the front to withstand the attack.

Finally, they managed to charge forward towards the fortress wall.

"Three miles, two miles, one mile, half a mile," Ye Liuyun mentally estimates the distance of the approaching Praetorians.

City guards were on high alert. The martial practitioner’s eyesight was so much sharper than an average person, they could see details a normal person wouldn’t.

"Suppress them! Do not let them initiate an attack!"

With another command, Ye Liuyun drew his Tundra Bow and shot a charging guard.

The soldiers clenched their jaws and launched frantic attacks. Some had even started using their genuine energy to attack because they thought using arrows was too slow.

The commander of the praetorian noticed that they were about to charge into the city wall, and thought that the Formation had been deactivated.

"CHARGE!"

Upon his command, he rallied all of the guards who were determined in the battle and rushed straight for the city wall.

"Hold!"

Ye Liuyun cheered for his fortress guards as he drew his Demon Slayer and continuously emitted his sword intention in an attempt to hinder the praetorians.

His fortress guards continued to launch attacks on the praetorians.

More intense fighting ensued as some of the praetorians began to fight the fortress guards in close combat.

As more praetorians drew closer, Ye Liuyun suddenly felt an energy fluctuation.

"Oh no, it’s a trap! Retreat!"

The praetorian’s commander felt the energy fluctuation as well. He instantly issued an order for his men to retreat.

Many of the praetorians reacted swiftly and retreated three kilometers away.

However, they were already confined within the formation after it had been activated.

"D*mn it! We’ve been fooled! Their Formation is laid out beyond three kilometres!" The commanding officer of the praetorians soon realized.

"Follow me! We have to make a run for it." Taking the lead he broke one of the Formation points with his men.

Just then, a beam of white ray shot from outside the Formation, striking the commander squarely in the chest. It drilled a large hole right through him, instantly killing him.

Upon seeing the activation of the Formation, the city’s guards finally breathed a sigh of relief. Many collapsed on the spot from exhaustion.

Their cultivation levels were poor, and the intense resistance they encountered in the battle drained their genuine energy.

At this moment, Huo Lei also noticed that the Formation was activated. But he didn’t see any energy passing through the Formation lines he had just reconnected.

Qiong Qi was teaching him, "What are you blanking out for? Could such a vital line of energy transmission be revealed to others? Remember this in the future. Essential Formation link should only be known by oneself, especially when it comes to survival!"

"I see!" Huo Lei obediently responded, taking this advice to heart earnestly.

Qiong Qi was satisfied with Huo Lei and deemed him as part of his kind. He merely felt Huo Lei’s experiences were too limited and his thinking wasn’t nimble enough.

With the onset of the formation, Ye Liuyun was finally able to relax.

"D*mn this rascal! He truly knows how to remain calm!"

Ye Liuyun grumbled about Qiong Qi in his heart as he donned his Concealcape. He descended from the city wall and prepared himself to captivate some of the opponent’s soldiers.

Within the formation, countless fire dragons had already commenced their assault on the praetorians.

Although they were fighting valiantly, the praetorians’ numbers were slowly diminishing.

However, many of the praetorians gathered together to charge from the back.

"Boom!"

Suddenly, Formations continuously activated in front of them, and many flaming beasts appeared. These beasts not only used fire but also launched attacks on the praetorians, easily dispersing the gathered praetorians in just a few blows.

The expert who originally protected the praetorian commander had no one to protect now. They continued to charge forward, fighting against the flaming beasts.

The Inferno City, under the veil of a white sphere, had turned into a sea of fire.

Ye Liuyun was busy imprinting the injured praetorians with Slaving Seals and sending them into the Spatial World.

Because the Formations attacked simultaneously, some of them were burned to ashes by the Formation before Ye Liuyun could get to them.

The experts among the praetorians, who had exhausted all their strength to extinguish the flaming beasts, were immediately faced with more flaming beasts wielding battle swords. It charged aggressively at them, forcing them to retreat.

Without resistance, the losses of the praetorians were even more severe.

Moreover, even if the experts avoided the beasts, they still had to face the Formation’s attacks. Only the Formation attacks were slightly weaker than the beasts.

They depleted their genuine energy, with most of them being imprinted with Slaving Seal by Ye Liuyun.

The praetorians dispersed in every direction. Some of them gathered near the edge of the Formations, to evade the beasts’ assaults and planned to breach the defensive barrier.

However, a white ray suddenly shot from outside the Formation, sweeping across. More than ten people were cut in half as the ray sliced through them.

After being sliced open by the white light, the Formation’s protective shield instantly absorbed energy to mend itself.

Ye Liuyun lamented as he tamed the praetorians, "Qiong Qi has learned to be humble! At this rate, we can easily wipe out the praetorians! These praetorians absolutely cannot hold on for half a day."

The enormous distance they had travelled had depleted a significant portion of their energy reserves. Along with the pressing need to resist the onslaught of battle Formations, Ye Liuyun’s Golden Phantom Eyes had also noticed that their genuine energy was nearly depleted.

Ye Liuyun tried his best to select the praetorians in the advanced ninth realm to imprint his Slaving Seal. He barely had time to deal with the primary ninth-level praetorians.

He not only had to imprint Slaving Seal on every one of his chosen praetorians, but he had to wipe off their initial Divine Soul contract as well. Hence, it took him longer to process them compared to merely imprinting them with Slaving Seal.

Despite them being stronger than him, he had no other option but to implant the Slaving Seal before admitting them into his Spatial World.

While at it, he also multitasked and collected the corpses of the perished Praetorians into his Spatial World for Devil Vine’s consumption.
