Chapter 1895: Chapter 1895 Ambush in the Night
After the other wolves became alarmed by Ye Liuyun’s unexpected attack, they fled when they realised the Wolf King had been killed.
"Get down here and help!" Ye Liuyun called out to Zhao Mingcheng.
"Right!" Zhao Mingcheng also hurriedly descended.
If they did not swiftly deal with the numerous feral beasts that had perished here, it would attract even more feral beasts to come.
She instantly hopped down the tree and picked up her long spear.
"Drag the wolves’ carcasses away and place them around this tree, spread them out. About two hundred steps away will do. Then extract the virtuosos and bring them back. I will take care of this arrogant bear." Ye Liuyun and Zhao Mingcheng promptly started to execute the tasks.
Ye Liuyun hastily decapitated the bear, skinned it, and only kept the virtuoso and large pieces of bear meat, and its limbs. Then he proceeded to pull out the Anaconda’s tendons from its carcass on the ground, tied up the bear meat, and carried it up the tree.
He didn’t need the leftovers of the Anaconda and the arrogant bear’s smaller pieces of meat, so he helped Zhao Mingcheng and dragged them to a distance.
"This is quite wasteful!" Zhao Mingcheng regretfully stated.
"These are enough to feed us for at least half a month, we can’t carry more than this anyway!" Ye Liuyun persuaded her.
"Alright then." Zhao Mingcheng could only comply.
The two of them hurriedly climbed back up into the shelter of the trees after completing these tasks
Not long after, Ye Liuyun’s Golden Phantom Eyes spotted that some feral beasts were getting closer.
The band of wolves’ howling and the arrogant bear’s previous roar scared off the other feral beasts. Now the strong stench of the blood from the carcasses drew in the remainder of the wild feral beasts.
Upon seeing the strewn carcasses of the beasts on the ground, some of the feral beasts instantly began to feast.
Around them, feral beasts were attracted by the carcasses and began to feast before they approached Ye Liuyun and his companion. After having their fill, some of these feral beasts simply turned and left, while others dragged the remaining carcasses away.
Other feral beasts that arrived inevitably ended up fighting for the little that remained.
While the feral beasts rampaged all night long, Ye Liuyun and his companion watched quietly from a safe distance. They risked being noticed by those feral beasts if they moved.
They spent the night remaining vigilant. They could only relax when daylight arrived after the feral beasts had dispersed.
As soon as the dawn broke, Ye Liuyun and Zhao Mingcheng, each carrying a load of meat, quickly set off.
Soon enough, Ye Liuyun discovered other feral beasts. They killed some of it and wrapped the meat with their clothes. They ate some of the arrogant bear’s meat and roasted the rest until it was half-cooked, then packed up their bags and set off again.
Before they left, Ye Liuyun forced Zhao Mingcheng to consume Elixir again.
In the event of a battle, they would either have to put down their load or entrust them to Zhao Mingcheng.
A day later, Zhao Mingcheng began to feel the effects of the Elixir and was astounded by its efficacy.
At that point, Ye Liuyun gave him all the Elixirs he’d previously acquired.
"Now that you know the effects," said Ye Liuyun, "it’s up to you whether you want to take any more of it. From now on, you are not obligated to guard the packages. If you’re willing to fight, you can join in. Those responsible for the victims’ downfall would be entitled to their resources."
He added, "However, if you don’t want to travel with me, you can go on your way. The pack of meat you’re carrying, you can take them too."
"Thank you for your care all these while," Zhao Mingcheng stated her heartfelt gratitude towards Ye Liuyun.
"However, it’s still necessary for you to continue looking after me. I genuinely can’t find my way out. I can give you half of my lootings!" Sincerely, Zhao Mingcheng extracted half of the Elixirs and handed them to Ye Liuyun.
"Okay then. Consider it your protection fee," Ye Liuyun didn’t reject the offer and accepted the Elixirs straightaway.
Zhao Mingcheng chuckled, "Please don’t shoot at me with a crossbow again!"
Ye Liuyun laughed awkwardly, "I told you, it was just a mistake..."
Ye Liuyun started sleeping better than before every night after that, no longer fretting over whether or not Zhao Mingcheng would ambush him. He didn’t think she could find her way out with her ability.
Being with him for a few days truly helped Zhao Mingcheng a lot. In the future, her gain would only increase. Until they got to the stage, she didn’t have any reason to kill him.
Every evening, Ye Liuyun would pay attention to the roar of Lei Ming or Dragon Lady, whenever he heard a woman’s battle cry, he would investigate.
After walking for more than ten days, they encountered many martial practitioners, but they had never encountered Lei Ming or the others.
The opponents Ye Liuyun encountered were all ordinary, he didn’t even encounter a martial practitioner who had the power of heaven and earth. Hence, it had been a relatively safe journey.
Typically, he and Zhao Mingcheng could handle combat of about four or five martial practitioners.
Zhao Mingcheng and Ye Liuyun both were getting stronger physically. Zhao Mingcheng, after getting a taste of the benefits of the Elixirs, stopped being frugal with her Elixirs.
Everything a martial martial practitioner did was to increase their strength. Naturally, she wasn’t foolish not to.
During nighttime, they tried to avoid battling with feral beasts as much as possible. Hence, they carried less meat of the feral beasts.
Ye Liuyun claimed that the place was abundant with feral beasts. It would be enough for them to carry a day’s worth of meat. With their combined strength, hunting a beast at night with enough to supply them with a day’s worth of meat.
They not only enjoyed an increasingly pleasant voyage, but they also reaped several rewards along the way.
But later on, Ye Liuyun’s Golden Phantom Eyes noticed a sizable scale of martial practitioners of more than thirty of them.
These martial practitioners hid themselves, forming a pocket formation, encircling and hunting martial practitioners. They seemed to be garnering an impressive income.
The number of martial practitioners present greatly exceeded what Ye Liuyun and Zhao Mingcheng could handle. Without hesitation, he led Zhao Mingcheng to retreat and observed these martial practitioners from a safe distance.
During the day, these people would hunt around the area, and then retreat to a village at night, either hunting or hiding from the feral beasts.
Upon hearing the scale of thirty or so martial practitioners, even Zhao Mingcheng was taken aback and suggested, "Why don’t we just go around them?"
"No. These martial practitioners are exceptionally wealthy. It would be a huge waste to let them go. We will ambush them at night," Ye Liuyun insisted.
Despite being outnumbered, he would have the advantage during the night.
"But I won’t be able to help much at night," Zhao Mingcheng voiced her concern.
"That’s alright. Just stick with me, and we’ll assess the situation then!" Ye Liuyun was not too concerned. "These people have weapons and are well prepared. They’ll likely use fire at night."
"Alright then," Zhao Mingcheng conceded. She knew Ye Liuyun had a special vision advantage at night. Even if they couldn’t take out all of them, killing a few and seizing some of their elixirs still sounded like a good plan.
So, they waited until nightfall before making their way to the village where the martial practitioners were residing.
There were watchmen among the troops stationed for the night. They stayed up all night hiding in a ring in the middle of the hamlet. Evidently, hoping to entice the feral beasts, they spread out some of the meat and blood from the feral beast’s carcasses.
Ye Liuyun circled the village a few times and was able to accurately gauge the location of these watchmen.
After that, he and Zhao Mingcheng slowly closed into the spot of one of the hidden guard posts.
The guard had constructed a stone fortress and secured it from the inside. Except for a handful of small openings no larger than a fist, the post was impenetrable.
In this way, even if a feral beast could detect his scent, the guard would remain untouchable.
