Chapter 1803: Chapter 1803 Waiting for Reinforcements
When Ye Liuyun reappeared, the deputy lieutenant was so shocked that he gasped with a bewildered expression. He examined Ye Liuyun from top to bottom and only relaxed once he was sure Ye Liuyun was unscathed.
"Ye Liuyun, how on earth did you survive that?" The deputy lieutenant asked Ye Liuyun through spiritual communication.
Ye Liuyun looked at him and sighed, "You guys didn’t have it easy either!"
The deputy lieutenant nodded repeatedly, feeling as if he had found someone who understood him.
After a while, Xiao Yunfang composed herself and adjusted her mood, immediately summoning the deputy lieutenant.
"Where are we now?" She began to deliberate about how to lead the squad to safety.
After the deputy lieutenant replied, she inquired again, "Why did we enter the dense forest? How are we supposed to get out now?"
"You told us to follow Ye Liuyun’s orders, so we entered the forest as he instructed," the deputy lieutenant said.
"Then go find out why we had to enter the deep forest. What are the next steps? How can we get out?" Xiao Yunfang directed.
"Should I summon him here to answer?" the deputy lieutenant asked.
"I don’t want to see that pervert. If I tell you to go and ask, you do as said!" Xiao Yunfang stated, discontentedly.
"Yes, certainly!" The deputy lieutenant dashed out quickly, not daring to irritate her.
When questioned, Ye Liuyun said, "There were too many enemy soldiers pursuing us at the moment, and they had battleships. We couldn’t outrun them, so the deep forest was the best option for avoiding pursuit. What we need to do now is wait and observe their moves."
The deputy lieutenant then reported his explanation to Xiao Yunfang.
"How long do we have to wait? What should we do if the enemy’s army approaches and surrounds us?" Xiao Yunfang asked.
The deputy lieutenant was once again speechless. Hence, he was sent once more by Xiao Yunfang to ask Ye Liuyun.
"Let us wait for their attack. Their core force is far away and they wouldn’t mobilise their main army force simply for our three thousand soldiers, right?" Ye Liuyun inquired in response.
The deputy lieutenant thought for a while, and asked Ye Liuyun: “Or, would you like to go and tell Xiao Yunfang yourself?”
"No need, just let her wait!" Ye Liuyun replied casually.
Ye Liuyun was not keen to provoke her again either.
The deputy lieutenant had no option but to rush back and report to Xiao Yunfang.
As a result, the two alternated sending him back and forth. And yet, Xiao Yunfang still didn’t grasp what Ye Liuyun intended to accomplish.
But now that matters had reached this stage, they had to take Ye Liuyun’s advice and see what the enemy was up to.
Ye Liuyun’s Divine Sense quickly detected that all five enemy squads had begun to move.
The first squad to approach the deep woodland was the one they had previously run away from. Half of them were archers capable of facing head-on against Ye Liuyun’s team.
Just because their leader had perished, and the vice-captain’s position wasn’t high enough. Hence, the other teams sent them into the forest as cannon fodder.
After a while, all four squads of 3,000 soldiers entered the jungle one after another, pursuing Ye Liuyun’s army.
Feeling his clone’s location, Ye Liuyun summoned the deputy lieutenant and instructed him to prepare for combat.
"First, annihilate their frontline, then flee. Do not linger in the battle." Ye Liuyun commanded him.
The deputy lieutenant returned to report this to Xiao Yunfang.
"Listen to him!"
Xiaoyunfang had no options at this moment.
Furthermore, she felt that Ye Liuyun’s leadership skills weren’t inferior to hers.
The deputy commander quickly organised the squad and followed Ye Liuyun’s orders in preparing to confront the enemy.
The enemy’s frontline was extremely wary. After travelling over fifty miles without encountering any soldier of the enemy troops, their anxiety somewhat subsided.
They quickly, however, ran into a series of traps.
They were caught unawares at first, but quickly figured out how to avoid incoming traps and started to remove them. As they progressed, they gradually relaxed.
They continued into the woods and soon reached the area where Ye Liuyun had set up his ambush archers. The unexpected assault dealt a devastating blow to the opposing forces.
Ye Liuyun used his divine sense to observe the battle. He gave the order to the deputy lieutenant to pull the archers back as soon as he thought it was time.
The enemy was unable to continue with the chasing. The number of traps at the front was too many and wide, and they could only dismantle them piece by piece.
Suddenly, Ye Tiandao took advantage of the enemy’s delay and, using his Golden Bow, targeted and shot the enemy’s deputy leader. After it was done, he hurriedly regrouped with Ye Liuyun’s troop.
The remaining enemy squad argued for a long time before finally choosing a temporary commander to lead them forward.
Everybody’s patience was nearly depleted by the seemingly never-ending traps up front.
But just then, Ye Liuyun’s army unexpectedly began to launch an attack.
Neither side had enough space to set up their formations in the thick woodland.
Ye Liuyun, nevertheless, was able to elevate everyone around him. He used Golden Bow to take out the enemy’s few commanders while leading the martial arts practitioners on the front line. The surviving soldiers lost their spirit and unity when he killed off every commander of the enemy. The opposing forces were thrown into disarray, and a few of them fled the scene.
After chasing and battling for some time, Ye Liuyun ordered his forces to retire further into the dark woodland.
"We have only eliminated one of their teams. There are still four left. What do you intend to do?" Finally, Xiao Yunfang couldn’t hold back her query to Ye Liuyun.
"We’ll wait for them to go deeper into the forest, then annihilate them there." Ye Liuyun replied.
"Then why didn’t we chase after them when we had the advantage?" Xiao Yunfang asked, puzzled.
"With your three thousand men, you’re planning to fight against over ten thousand?" Ye Liuyun retorted.
"So, you’re planning to annihilate them?" Xiao Yunfang raised her voice with Ye Liuyun.
"Be patient, just wait!" was all Ye Liuyun said to her.
"Waiting for what?" Xiao Yunfang demanded an answer in a fury.
"We wait for reinforcement!" Ye Liuyun replied with a smile.
"Reinforcement?" Xiao Yunfang was dumbfounded. How could they possibly have reinforcement?
But Ye Liuyun merely smiled and said, "The reinforcement is already here. We’re waiting for the opponent to get deeper into the forest. Prepare yourself for the counterattack!"
"What reinforcement?" Xiao Yunfang asked again, but Ye Liuyun did not reply to her.
The enemy group absorbed the dispersed troops who had just been defeated and then started to move forward again.
Ye Liuyun continued to lead his people in a retreat until the final enemy squad had travelled fifty miles into the forest before directing his soldiers to prepare for war.
By now, his clone was cloaked in Concealcape, tailing the last troops as they ventured into the dense woods.
Discreetly, his clone drew his Golden Bow and took down the leader of the troop they were trailing.
"Enemy attack!"
The final group devolved into chaos almost immediately.
Yet another arrow by, claiming the life of their deputy leader. But the opponent could not locate the assailant.
"Scatter, now!"
A few team leaders directed the troops to spread out. Each soldier moved apart from one another, increasing the troop’s radius.
However, as soon as they scattered about, they found demon cultivators suddenly appeared by their side.
Each of these demon cultivators had a wicked expression. Their eyes were crimson red, and they attacked aggressively, unconcerned about the agony.
The demon cultivators totalled over ten thousand, and almost half of them had no cultivation stage.
Even those that had not advanced to the cultivation stage mobbed every individual soldier in clusters, biting indiscriminately.
Those demon cultivators who had reached the cultivation stage began an aggressive murdering spree.
More than half of the last enemy troop was eliminated. The survivors of the massacre dispersed and fled, as the troop was completely crushed and disintegrated.
