Chapter 487: Chapter 126: Priests in the Divine Domain Are a Bottom-Tier Profession?! (Part 2)
"The second is to the east, at the Quicksand River. A Silver Moon City patrol is tied down by a large troop of Abyssal Fishmen. They need help clearing them out."
"The third is a gathering quest. The pitch-black mine to the south produces low-grade Divine Realm ore. However, you have to spend a fair amount of Fire of Faith to learn the ’Basic Divine Gifted Mining’ skill from the Mining Trainer first. Without the skill, you can’t even touch the special ore."
"The fourth is the most dangerous. It’s a delivery of weapons and equipment to a frontline fortress. That area is under heavy assault by the Abyssal Faction, and the road is crawling with their invasion forces. The risk is extremely high."
With that, Su Mumu waved the parchment where she’d copied the quest details.
"So, which one do you want to pick?"
"I think Mining uses too many early-game resources, and transporting the weapons is too dangerous. The two combat quests in Black Flame Forest and at Quicksand River seem like a good fit for us."
Qin Feng tapped his chin, pondering for a moment before looking up to ask:
"Hmm... what are the rewards for these four quests?"
Su Mumu answered without a second thought:
"Transporting the weapons has the best reward, about three times as much as the other three quests combined."
"Mining gives the least; it’s barely a drop in the bucket."
"As for killing the Abyssal Demon Wolves, the reward is just a tiny bit more than helping the guards at Quicksand River clear out the fishmen."
Qin Feng rubbed the body of his bow, analyzing the situation thoughtfully.
"From the sound of it, Mining is just pure manual labor. There aren’t any strong enemies around the mine, so it’s the safest fallback option."
His tone shifted, and his gaze fell on the notes for the Quicksand River quest.
"Clearing out the Abyssal Fishmen should be easier than killing the Abyssal Demon Wolves. I’m guessing that’s because the Silver Moon City guards will act as a backstop, so we won’t have to face the pressure of an army alone."
After a moment of contemplation, he looked up at Su Mumu, his tone firm.
"Transporting the weapons is the most profitable... but to be safe, let’s go to the Black Flame Forest and hunt Demon Wolves first. For one, we’re more familiar with the route. For another, Abyssal Demon Wolves are often found alone, which makes it easier for us to coordinate."
With the decision made, Qin Feng wasted no more time. He summoned his newly acquired Divine Gift weapon and led Su Mumu back to the Black Flame Forest outside the city.
Their old teamwork fell back into place. Su Mumu swung her longsword, engaging in close combat to draw the Demon Wolf’s fire.
Meanwhile, Qin Feng nocked an arrow about thirty feet away, aiming for the Demon Wolf’s weak points. If Su Mumu was accidentally scratched by its claws, he would immediately lower his bow, a gentle Holy Light gathering in his palm as he activated his newly promoted "Divine Gift: Healing Hand" to heal her.
The faint golden Divine Power seeped into the wound, instantly smoothing away the scar. However, each activation consumed a small amount of precious Fire of Faith.
The howls of wolves and the clash of metal once again echoed through the forest.
Throughout this time, Qin Feng never summoned his "Exclusive Mount" or the "Emperor’s Guard" to aid him.
For one, activating these two abilities consumed a significant amount of Fire of Faith. Furthermore, the longer they remained in the Divine Domain, the more Fire of Faith they would drain. For Qin Feng, who was currently short on resources, it was simply too extravagant.
Second, even though these Mounts and Guards could be considered Divine Gift heroes, they had not mastered any damage-dealing Divine Gift skills, nor were they enhanced by any Divine Gift equipment. Against the Abyssal Demon Wolves, who were protected by the rules of the Divine Domain’s "Shelter," they were completely useless in combat. Summoning them rashly would be nothing but a waste of precious Fire of Faith.
This was also the reason why Qin Feng hadn’t summoned his Exclusive Mount for transportation when he traveled from Silver Moon City to the Black Flame Forest earlier.
Fire of Faith, as the universal hard currency of the Divine Realm, was simply too scarce and precious.
Qin Feng had to hold on to every bit of his resources, keeping them in reserve for the cost of "Divine Gift: Healing Hand." He would never waste them on summoning the currently useless Divine Gifted Ancient Giant Dragons or other flashy Exclusive Mounts just to save a little travel time or show off in front of others.
...
A long time later, Qin Feng raised a hand to his bowstring, stopping the arrow he was about to release. He looked up at Su Mumu, who was forcing back a Demon Wolf with her longsword not far away, and said in a low voice:
"That’s enough."
"Let’s stop here for now."
He glanced down at his Attributes panel, his brow furrowing at the few remaining points of Fire of Faith.
"I’m almost out of Fire of Faith."
"We need to save some, just in case of an emergency."
Qin Feng lowered his bow and turned, his tone cautious.
"After we go back to the city, turn in the quest, and get more Fire of Faith, we can come back and continue hunting these Demon Wolves."
Hearing this, Su Mumu flicked her wrist to sheathe her longsword and nodded lightly.
"Okay."
She currently had no Divine Gift abilities of her own and had to rely on Qin Feng’s "Healing Hand" to heal her during the fight. Because of this, she had decisively given all the Fire of Faith she had saved up from quests to Qin Feng to manage before they even entered the Black Flame Forest.
It was only by pooling their two shares of resources that Qin Feng could sustain the cost and last this long with Su Mumu in the treacherous forest.
However, just as the two of them finished packing and were about to turn back,
A sharp, ear-piercing voice that made one’s hair stand on end suddenly emerged from the shadows of the dense woods to their side.
"Heh heh..."
The voice was laced with undisguised ridicule, like a poison-tipped steel needle drilling straight into one’s ears:
"Well, well, aren’t the two newbies quite the killers?"
The voice paused, then added a sinister chill:
"Too bad."
"This is just your unlucky day."
"You ran into us from the Cyan Dragon Gang."
Several figures slowly emerged from the shadows of the woods. The man in the lead stood with his arms crossed, his greedy gaze sweeping over the pile of Demon Wolf carcasses on the ground. His tone was outrageously arrogant:
"Here’s a piece of advice. Hand over ninety percent of the Abyssal Demon Wolf carcasses you just hunted, and we’ll let you leave in one piece."
The leader took two steps forward, grinding a broken Demon Wolf fang under the tip of his boot. The greed in his eyes swirled with malevolence.
His followers immediately understood. They all took a step forward in unison, the weapons at their waists clashing with a cold, sharp sound as they subtly blocked Qin Feng and Su Mumu’s escape route.
Then, the man curled his lip into a vicious sneer. The arrogance in his voice turned into a naked threat, as cold as a viper flicking its tongue:
"Otherwise!"
"If you mess with us from the Cyan Dragon Gang!"
"The two of you can forget about living peacefully in Silver Moon City ever again!"
At this, Qin Feng’s eyebrows shot up, and a frigid glint flashed in his eyes.
He looked up, his heavy gaze sweeping over the group before him. His tone was deceptively calm, yet it carried a daunting chill:
"So arrogant?"
He took a step forward, gently shielding Su Mumu behind him. His voice suddenly rose, each word striking their ears with clarity:
"We are here to help Silver Moon City fight the Abyssal Faction. What you’re doing is clearly weakening Silver Moon City’s forces. Aren’t you afraid of being punished by the Deities in the city?"
Hearing this, the group of Ascenders who called themselves the Cyan Dragon Gang burst into raucous laughter. Their voices were coarse and grating, as if they had just heard the world’s biggest joke.
The leader laughed so hard he bent over, pointing at Qin Feng with a voice full of mockery and disdain:
"Punishment?"
"Kid, you must be new to the Divine Realm. Hasn’t it clicked for you yet?"
He paused, his gaze suddenly turning sinister as he looked over Qin Feng and Su Mumu like two lambs for the slaughter.
"Do you know how many new Ascenders flood into Silver Moon City every day? And do you know how many of them die silently in some dark, forgotten corner outside the city?"
A follower beside him roared at the top of his lungs, spittle flying everywhere:
"Let me tell you!"
"Stop dreaming that you’re some one-in-a-million super genius!"
"To those high-and-mighty Deities, we Ascenders are nothing more than bugs to be pitted against each other!"
The leader picked up the thread, his voice rising with a hint of arrogant pride:
"They couldn’t care less if some bugs live or die. They certainly aren’t going to offend the leader of our Cyan Dragon Gang—who has already ascended to become a Junior Deity—for the sake of an empty-handed newcomer like you!"
He took another step forward, his eyes fixed on the mountain of Demon Wolf carcasses on the ground, his greed plain to see. His tone shifted to a mix of threat and persuasion:
"Be smart about this. Voluntarily hand over ninety percent of the loot, and from now on, the Cyan Dragon Gang will have your back. We’ll make sure no other gangs in Silver Moon City bully you!"
"Otherwise!"
"You two new Ascenders dare come to Silver Moon City without paying respects to the local power!"
"Just wait to be bullied to death!"
