Chapter 126: Meeting At Small Shop
However, Andrew wasn’t there to supervise the work; he was there to find someone to accompany him on more food tastings. There was only a small section of the restaurants in Blackthorn City that he hadn’t yet tried.
"I’m treating everyone to food today. One for each man and woman. It’s voluntary, first come, first served!"
Andrew stood at the studio door and spoke loudly, but none of the dozen or so people inside paid him any attention, making the scene rather awkward.
"..."
He walked over to Hannah and asked her, "I’m treating you to something to eat, are you sure you don’t want to come?"
Hannah removed her hand from the mouse, turned around, sighed, and said to Andrew, "Boss, just tell me the truth. If you offer to treat us, it’s never a good thing. We’re probably going to eat junk food."
"No! In your eyes, I’m the kind of person who’s incredibly stingy and never does anything good, right?"
"Isn’t that so?"
"..."
Andrew fell silent after being told off. He admitted that he could be a little stingy and a little bit like an animal at times.
"Oh, I’m just looking for hidden gem restaurants that offer good food at reasonable prices, so I can prepare for the group-buying ordering feature we’re launching soon. Even if it’s terrible, it’ll fill my stomach, since I’m the one paying."
Andrew still wanted to trick Hannah into going.
But Hannah had been involved in pyramid schemes before, and having been scammed by Andrew so many times, she was no longer susceptible to his tricks.
"I’m working hard too. I’m also responsible for operating the official account and website, which is very tiring. Boss, you also need to have a spirit of sacrifice in this critical moment! I believe that if we work together, we can definitely get through this difficult time!"
As Hannah spoke, she began to persuade Andrew instead.
Andrew couldn’t help but twitch his eyebrows, "So they’re going to start making empty promises to me, their boss? Are they trying to turn the tables on me?"
Seeing that he couldn’t fool the old fox Hannah, Andrew had no choice but to turn his attention to the only other woman in the company, Claire.
Claire sensed something was wrong, her whole body trembled in the chair, and then she stood up and ran to the toilet while clutching her stomach.
"Ouch, my stomach suddenly hurts so much! Ouch, boss, I’m going to the restroom. You can talk to me later if you need anything."
"..."
Left with no other choice, Andrew finally thought of his good brother.
"Hey buddy! Got a bit free?"
"Why are you looking for your dad?"
"I’d like to invite you to dinner, are you coming?"
"Is that really true!"
"Seriously, eat as much as you want! It’s on me! If anyone else in your dorm wants to eat, they can come too."
"Godfather! We’re coming right now."
It’s good that more people come; the results will be more authoritative.
When Ethan arrived, he called out " Steve," and they genuinely thought Andrew was taking them out for a nice meal.
As a result, after a day of wandering around, they were somewhat disheartened.
"You deserve to die! I shouldn’t have believed your nonsense, what kind of rubbish is this?"
Ethan lay in the back seat, too exhausted to even curse Andrew.
As for Steve, he ran away halfway through the journey for the sake of his health.
"Don’t worry, don’t worry, this last restaurant is definitely delicious. Eat however you like."
"What if you fucking lie to me again?"
"If I lie to you again, I’ll go back and eat my girlfriend."
"Fuck you, just say you want to eat it!"
...
However, this time Andrew really didn’t fool Ethan. The last restaurant was the one Hannah had mentioned before, a restaurant run by an elderly couple in an old alley.
The restaurant’s name was very ordinary; it was simply called Toe’s Little Restaurant.
When the two entered, the elderly couple were taking a nap in a chair, while the other was sitting next to them listening to the radio, looking very content.
Upon seeing Andrew and Ethan enter, the two quickly greeted them.
After eating so much junk food, Ethan took one bite and then buried his head in his rice, as if he hadn’t eaten for days.
Even Andrew, a picky eater, thought the elderly couple’s cooking was indeed delicious.
These dishes are nothing special; they are just very authentic home-style dishes with an addictive flavor.
The two elderly people were very hospitable and chatted with Andrew and his friends, during which they learned the names of the two people.
The old man’s name is Parry and his wife’s name is Sally.
"Grandpa, your cooking skills are so good. When you opened your shop, why didn’t you think about choosing a better location? Your business would definitely be booming." Andrew asked the man.
The alley was full of very old storefronts, many of which were closed and couldn’t be rented out. There were no restaurants shown on the map either. Andrew only came because Hannah told him about it.
Party smiled and waved his hand, "Young man, you don’t know, I’ve been running this shop for quite a few years. When I opened this shop, there was only your Blackthorn University and a few scattered buildings around here. Back then, the government was building a new university and some residential buildings around here. It was all a construction site. There were so many workers coming to eat here every day that there wasn’t even enough room for everyone to sit down."
"Oh, I see. That explains it."
Hearing this, Andrew thought it made sense; the elderly couple must have made a lot of money when there were construction sites nearby.
"In that case, why don’t you gentlemen take a break and retire, instead of working so hard every day to run the shop?" Andrew asked with a smile.
"It’s good to earn a little more. I have a grandson now, and his family in Brooklyn City has it tough."
Hearing this, Ethan, who had been eating alone, nodded in agreement, "That’s true, prices in Brooklyn are definitely much higher than here."
Upon hearing this, Parry became somewhat excited, "You two are also from Brooklyn City?"
"Yes, our home is right there."
"Then maybe my son and you two are neighbors."
After chatting and joking around for a while, Andrew asked Parry, "Grandpa, have you ever thought about doing takeout like other stores? I see your store hasn’t joined any takeout platforms."
Parry shook his head as he listened, "We’re not very good at using smartphones, and the food delivery platform said it has a lot of unfair terms and conditions, so let’s just forget about it. If someone comes to the store, we’ll cook; if no one comes, we’ll just leave it."
Andrew could sense from the old man’s words that he was somewhat resistant to the food delivery platform.
So he gave up his idea of collaborating with the old man.
Although his planned group-buying ordering method doesn’t involve as much price-cutting as other platforms, he still needs to make money and has certain requirements for the merchants he chooses to cooperate with.
He didn’t say anything to avoid upsetting Grandpa Parry; he could just come and patronize the business when he had time.
Just as they continued chatting, a familiar face walked into the store.
"Grandpa Parry, the usual, one order of stir-fried shredded potatoes and one order of stir-fried green peppers with pork."
The familiar voice made Andrew and Ethan both look up.
"Squad leader?"
"Hey? You guys are here too?"
Andrew was quite surprised to see Lucy.
He had originally planned to invite Lucy as well, but she said she was going to visit her mother, so he didn’t invite her.
Lucy was afraid that Andrew would misunderstand that she was lying to him, so she quickly explained, "Grandpa Parry’s food is delicious than more restaurants, so I like to eat from here."
Andrew listened and nodded.
Parry listened and joked with a smile, "You two are in the same class, what a coincidence! Your class monitor often comes to visit me, but I’ve never seen her bring any other classmates."
Andrew jokingly replied, "The class monitor didn’t tell us how delicious your food is. If we had known, we would have come much earlier and made less money. You’ll have to blame our class monitor, sir."
This made Lucy a little embarrassed, "This...this isn’t my fault, I didn’t think about promoting it either."
Parry burst into laughter, "Hahaha, your classmate was just joking, I’m sure you won’t be upset."
He then stood up and walked towards the kitchen, "You guys chat, I’ll go cook."
Lucy sat down next to Andrew and the others and asked curiously, "How did you guys find this place? I discovered this shop by accident when school started. After all, this place is too remote. Sometimes I would pass by without even noticing that there is such a small alley hidden in a high-rise building."
"I heard about it from Hannah, so I came to try it out. After all, I’m planning to add a group-buying and ordering feature, so I’ll definitely need some good quality and affordable restaurants to join."
"Grandpa Parry is definitely good at this! His food is really delicious."
Lucy said excitedly, still worried that Parry might have to close down one day, "You’re bringing more customers and orders to Grandpa Parry’s place, isn’t that great?"
However, Andrew waved his hand and said, "I didn’t mention it to the old man. He seems quite resistant to takeout."
"Those are the unfair terms and conditions of other platforms. If you didn’t make those unreasonable demands, Grandpa Parry would definitely agree."
"Forget it, it’s better than me bringing it up and making everyone unhappy. At worst, I’ll just patronize his business a little more."
"What can we possibly do to help? I’ll talk to Grandpa Parry, he’ll understand."
