Chapter 157: Stopping the Prison Break
"The extraction operation begins in exactly twenty minutes." Corvus pointed a gloved finger toward the inner sect courtyards. "The cultists plan to breach the holding cells located beneath the Disciplinary Pavilion. They organized three distinct teams to execute the prison break simultaneously."
Solomon followed the operative’s gaze. He analyzed the layout of the distant buildings and mentally mapped the intersecting paths. "Are we splitting up to intercept them, or are we hitting the main group together?"
"I will handle the perimeter guards and the diversion teams." Corvus pulled a small silver dagger from his robes. "You need to drop directly into the central holding area. Your objective is to catch the extraction squad completely red-handed while they attempt to open the cells."
Solomon grinned and adjusted the leather strap across his chest. He fully intended to test his basic skills against the hidden traitors. He cracked his knuckles in preparation for the upcoming ambush.
[GoonLord: SHOW NO MERCY TO THE TRAITORS!]
[Fatal_Beauty: stealth mission turned loud in three two one]
[Grim: Solo Man never does stealth.]
[Shadow1749: those spies have no idea what is about to hit them.]
"I will head to the Disciplinary Pavilion right now." Solomon stepped toward the edge of the clay roof. "Just make sure you keep the diversion teams from slipping past your net."
Corvus nodded and took a single step backward into the shade of the chimney. The operative dissolved instantly into the darkness.
Solomon bent his knees and leaped from the sloping roof to initiate his descent toward the target location.
He plummeted through the night sky and crashed violently through the high windows of the Disciplinary Pavilion. Shards of glass and splintered wood showered the floorboards of the subterranean holding sector. He landed perfectly on his boots amidst the falling debris.
Five blue-robed instructors stood in the dimly lit corridor. They held brass rings loaded with iron keys. Two captives wearing ragged tunics had just stepped out of their open cells.
The extraction squad turned their heads toward the sudden intrusion, completely failing to process the arrival of a first-year student.
Solomon entirely ignored the armed traitors.
He sprinted directly through the center of their formation and tackled the fleeing prisoners. He swept his right leg across the floor, knocking the first captive onto the cobblestones. Driving his boot into the man’s shoulder blade, Solomon pinned him firmly to the ground.
He grabbed the loose chains dangling from the second captive’s wrists. He violently yanked the iron links forward and wrapped them tightly around the reinforced cell bars.
He secured the iron padlock with a swift twist, entirely immobilizing the primary targets.
[1Fizzy: wait he went straight for the prisoners?!]
[Mezz_3863: Solo Man ignoring the enemies entirely.]
[James_hayes: bro just locked the guy back up.]
[Fatal_Beauty: tactical genius at work.]
Solomon dusted off his spider-silk shirt and turned to face the five bewildered instructors. The spies gripped the hilts of their curved sabers. They stared at the secured captives, utterly stunned by the unexpected maneuver.
"If I immobilize the prisoners first, your extraction operation fails before it even begins," Solomon explained, resting his hand on the hilt of his executioner’s sword. "You guys only have three options left. You can try to run away, you can desperately try to free your friends while I stand right here, or you can draw your weapons and fight back."
[Chi_Master: he literally ruined their whole plan in ten seconds.]
[Grim: reverse extraction.]
[Berrel: making the traitors choose their own beating.]
[Shadow1749: stealth is optional when you just cancel the objective.]
[Harry_Hart: they look so confused right now.]
The lead spy bared his teeth and drew his blade. The other four instructors immediately followed suit, spreading out to circle the silver-haired boy with lethal intent.
’Securing the captives means the rest of the night just turns into an extra cleaning and beating job,’ Solomon thought.
He pulled Eden’s Penance from his back and rested the pristine steel against his collarbone. He offered a bright, unapologetic grin. "I suggest you choose the third option."
The three lead instructors charged forward in perfect unison. Their curved sabers interlocked to create a spinning vortex of steel. They moved with a bizarre, interwoven martial art, stepping on each other’s shadows to completely mask their thrusts.
Solomon ducked beneath a sweeping blade and parried the second strike. The third spy vaulted off his comrade’s knee to drive his weapon downward.
Solomon pivoted on his heel and analyzed their shifting footwork. He quickly grasped the mechanics of their combined formation.
Stepping directly into the center of their overlapping guard, he swung Eden’s Penance in a horizontal arc. The pristine steel sheared cleanly through their defenses and bisected all three attackers.
The kinetic force knocked the blue hoods and silk veils entirely off their severed heads.
Solomon lowered his greatsword and inspected the lifeless faces scattered across the floorboards. He failed to recognize a single feature among the dead men.
The administration had initiated a strict lockdown curfew, ensuring only veteran sect members and recognized instructors remained within the walls. Those specific faculty numbers were highly limited and easily identifiable.
These dead fighters did not belong to the Azure Dragon Sect at all. Solomon wiped a speck of blood from his jawline and processed the implications.
’A completely unknown third party is involved with this. What’s going on?’ Solomon wondered.
The cultists never actually intended to extract the immobilized captives currently chained to the iron bars. This entire prison break merely served as a massive distraction. The infiltrators possessed a much darker, hidden goal elsewhere.
[1Fizzy: wait, who are those guys?]
[James_hayes: they definitely don’t look like teachers.]
[Mezz_3863: Solo Man figured it out. the prison break is fake.]
[2Lazy2Care: if this is a distraction, where is the real attack happening?]
Solomon tightened his grip on his hilt and immediately turned his gaze toward the ceiling. He realized the true threat was currently targeting the upper pavilions.
The cultists were likely hunting the royals while Corvus was occupied elsewhere.
"What the hell are instructors and guards doing?"
