Chapter 388: Branded for Eternity
"Ah, this is what’s called ’using a cat’s paw.’"
"I’ve never heard of that."
"It means using someone else’s hands to get rid of a troublesome enemy. Eila used her head well."
Simply killing them all wasn’t an option, since Eila still harbored sympathy and compassion for the human prisoners. But letting them go free wasn’t viable either, and she knew full well that I wouldn’t accept that.
Eila as an individual human being.
And Eila as the legion’s Princess Knight.
After an internal struggle, Eila arrived at one brilliant idea.
[If they find out these people mated with monsters, they’ll surely be burned at the stake in a witch trial. We wouldn’t even need to clean up the bodies ourselves. After having them go one round with our legion’s subordinates, we just drive them out of Raspica. The inquisitors will deliver a death far worse than sexual exhaustion.]
"I really like that we don’t have to kill them ourselves."
I couldn’t help but smile as I watched them being driven out beyond the walls, one by one. Cast outside Raspica without a single thread on their bodies, every last one of them was covering their forehead.
Monster-Fucker.
Men and women alike, every one of them covered their foreheads with their hands rather than their privates as they scattered in all directions. Where they would end up was anyone’s guess, but at least we no longer had to deal with disposing of corpses.
"There are too many to feed to the slimes, and having the ghouls tear them apart would stir up too much fear. Man, I’d been racking my brain over this, and it all worked out perfectly."
"Master, were you really planning to kill all of them?"
"Yeah. I figured we’d be stuck dealing with corpses for days, but this way it’s all taken care of."
The reason I hadn’t gone with the refugee attack was that the neighboring territory was the Leo Marquisate, far larger than a mere barony. A measly thousand humans wouldn’t have made a dent in such a massive marquisate.
"It’s great that we don’t have to do the killing ourselves."
"It is a shame, though. It would’ve been nice to use them for ghoul synthesis."
"What we’re getting out of this is even better."
Monster-Fuckers would spread to every corner of the world. And along with them, awareness of ’monsters that treat humans as sexual prey’ would gradually spread far and wide.
"It’s about time we stretched our legs. Time to make sure every two-bit nobody out there is too terrified to even look at our legion sideways; so terrified they tremble at the mere mention of our name."
This was the perfect opportunity for the Legion of Wrath to make itself widely known. All I’d done was add the ’Monster-Fucker’ branding to Eila’s brilliant idea.
Monsters that conquered a kingdom’s barony, kept the humans alive, and violated them en masse. That would be impossible to forget.
"As the head of one of the seven legions, it’s high time I started building up some ’infamy.’"
"Ah, you don’t mean...?"
"That’s right. It’s time to raise the dungeon’s rank, too."
Absurdly enough, my dungeon was still D-rank.
Compared to Gremory, I figured the results of this barony campaign had at least laid the groundwork for reaching not just C-rank but possibly even B-rank. But for now, what mattered most was getting the Legion of Wrath’s name out there far and wide.
"The multi-species eggs and leveling are all squared away. I might even be able to jump straight to B-rank, but right now, the priority is stabilizing the war situation and raising the dungeon one more tier. After we’ve revived everyone, of course."
I checked the Bond Summon list, which was shrinking one name at a time. The Bond Summon, essentially a death roster, was steadily having names crossed off.
"It’ll be hard to revive everyone who died using just what the sub-dungeon produces. But we can bring back at least some of them."
Reviving monsters through Bond Summon required magic stones. The yield from the sub-dungeon was limited, but having revived ten in a single day was certainly encouraging.
"Well then, shall we go farm some magic stones for everyone’s revival?"
Magic stone farming, powered by human desire, awaited us right before our eyes.
***
Early dawn.
The human prisoners had gone from an ambiguous status between captive and citizen to full members of the Legion of Wrath. As such, their loyalty was still rooted in fear.
That won’t do.
Fear is nothing more than a stopgap measure. If I kept them suppressed by fear indefinitely, dissent would surely arise, eventually leading to full-blown rebellion. There were already more than enough external enemies to deal with; an internal insurgency was the last thing I needed.
Their loyalty had to be made completely ours. More people remained in Raspica than we had soldiers, and the legion now had to manage them properly.
"Listen well, all of you."
I stood on the balcony of the baronial castle once more. Below me, Lime, disguised as the Baroness, supported me on all fours. The gazes of the citizens looking up at me were complicated.
Joy at having survived, but anger at having been made to mate with monsters. Confusion at the act having felt better than expected. Self-loathing at having been violated by force rather than by choice.
Of course, those who hadn’t been with a monster far outnumbered those who had. But they too would inevitably have their turn before long, and then everyone here would become a Monster-Fucker. They trembled with the fear that at any moment, they could be violated by an orc, a harpy, or an Andras, just like the others.
All of those emotions blended together in the square. Now it was time to redirect that anger elsewhere.
"Foolishly, a full half of you chose not to join the legion. They will all be executed. I plan to kill them in the dungeon."
Or so I said, but in reality, they would be branded with the ’Monster-Fucker’ mark and expelled, in accordance with Eila’s scheme. All we’d really done was kill them socially, ensuring they could never reintegrate into human society. Those who had already died of sexual exhaustion were beyond help regardless.
"As a result, there are now empty houses everywhere. It was never this bad even in Ras Vegas, but this place had so many residents to begin with that the number of vacated homes is overflowing."
It was only natural. Those who had lost family in the fighting wanted to escape the legion, even at the cost of bearing the stigma of Monster-Fucker. Now that everyone harboring even a shred of disgust toward our legion had left, ownerless homes were in surplus.
"From today onward, you are all citizens of the Legion of Wrath. And so, as my first command to you, I order you to ’plunder.’"
Puzzlement crept across the citizens’ faces. They were clearly wondering what there was left to plunder when everything had already been taken from them. So I dispelled their misunderstanding first.
"I have claimed the Baroness’s castle. I, and my legion, are satisfied with having seized the Baroness and her castle. Beyond that, I have no interest. Your property is your own."
The citizens’ expressions turned grave. A few of the quicker ones grasped my meaning immediately, their mouths falling open in shock.
"We belong to the Demon King’s Army, but my Legion of Wrath will be different. Now that I’ve claimed the Baroness as my own, you need only pay taxes to the Baroness as you always have. That’s right. The only thing that’s changed is that the ’kingdom’ you lived in has become the Demon King’s Army. Within these walls, you may go on living just as before."
Smack.
I slapped the Baroness on the rear. As I rose from atop her waist, Eila brought a chair from behind, and the moment I sat down, I lifted the Baroness, Lime, and sat her on my lap to face me.
"Hehe, now let’s see just how much the Baroness loves her citizens, shall we? If the Baroness finishes first, I’ll confiscate all your property. But if the Baroness makes me finish first... your property remains yours."
"Hah, haahh...!"
The Baroness placed her hands on my shoulders and began rocking her hips back and forth. Tears welled up in the citizens’ eyes.
The Baroness had saved their lives.
The Baroness had been made to have sex with a monster, just like them.
And now, to protect her citizens’ private property, the Baroness was willingly swaying her hips and debasing herself before an orc in front of everyone.
Loyalty doesn’t just appear out of nowhere.
A knight’s loyalty and a commoner’s loyalty are different things. For people whose only wish was to live day by day, eat, and be happy with their families, the lives and property that made that possible were everything they had.
As the head of the legion, I acknowledged that.
The Baroness had protected her people’s lives and property with her own body.
Even if loyalty toward the ’Legion Commander’ might never take root, loyalty toward the ’Baroness’ was surely beginning to swell.
"Kgh...!"
"Baroness...!"
As proof, the citizens watching the Baroness gyrate her hips before me showed open anguish. Even with her clothes torn away and her bouncing rear exposed for all to see, they watched the scene as though witnessing the noble sacrifice of a saintess.
Slap, slap, slap.
Of course, as the saying goes, put five people in a room and one of them will be trash. A few indecent individuals had their hands shoved down below, fondling themselves. I quickly scanned them with my eyes.
Three men, five women.
"Eila."
"Yes."
"Send the ones I point out to the ranch. Milk the men until they’re on the brink of death, and the women... have them lay eggs. Yes, release them after five."
"Understood."
Creak, creak.
The Baroness silently rocked her hips, urging me to finish. Though she looked like the Baroness on the outside, it was actually Lime doing the work, so even doing it out here in front of everyone, I hadn’t even come close to the edge.
To actually finish, I’d need at least several more minutes. When I first took the Baroness, the shock factor meant taking my time wasn’t an issue, but if this dragged on any longer, the citizens might start getting bored.
"Hraaah."
I threw my head back, pretending to climax. On cue, Lime pressed her hips down firmly, then collapsed limply against my body like a woman who’d just peaked.
"Hehe, I was still a long way from finishing, but... the Baroness tried sooo hard that I’ll let it slide. Congratulations. Your property is yours."
Silence fell over the square. But in their faces, I glimpsed relief and hope.
Now it was time to breathe desire and frenzy into them. I lifted the Baroness off me and handed her over to Eila.
"But here’s the problem. Our legion’s soldiers already have homes of their own. However, there are far too many empty houses. Managing them all individually would be a hassle. So..."
Clap. I clapped my hands. At that, something like silver flames blazed to life in the sky. The flames took the shape of a house, and when I snapped my fingers, the house crumbled to ash and vanished.
"I will destroy all the empty houses. And in their place, I’ll erect new structures for our legion. It won’t affect your daily lives in any way."
The slime sappers would devour every last scrap of debris, so there wouldn’t even be any noise from the demolition. A few people opened their mouths, looking dismayed.
There they are. I pointed at a bespectacled young man.
"You there. What’s got you so disappointed?"
"Huh? M, me?"
"Master."
Eila leaned in and whispered in my ear. What she told me surprised even me.
"...A real elf actually slept with that guy?"
"Three of them wore Andras disguises and went around doing it for real. If you’re displeased..."
"Why would I punish them? They did it because they wanted to. Tell them they can take the disguises off from now on."
"Thank you."
Eila breathed a sigh of relief and stepped back. I felt a mixture of envy and pride at the thought of a guy who was obviously a virgin until recently losing it to an elf.
If it weren’t for me, when else would an elf ever get the chance to take someone’s virginity?
While I was lost in thought, the bespectacled young man was fidgeting nervously, waiting for me to speak.
"...Ahem. You there, looking all meek and scholarly but actually the type who scored with an elf. Go ahead and tell me. What’s got you so disappointed?"
"Oh, uh, well... it just seems like a waste to lose what’s inside the houses..."
"Exactly!!"
I pointed at the young man and clapped.
"Houses obviously have belongings inside them. Leaving those behind would slow down the demolition work. So they need to be cleared out, but..."
"Ah...!"
The young man gasped as if something had clicked. Others began fidgeting with nervous anticipation as well. I grinned at them and gestured all around.
"I’ll give you an opportunity. Plunder the property from the ownerless houses. This is not stealing another person’s belongings. You are following my ’order,’ and I am commanding you to increase your own wealth."
A transparent ruse, but plundering was plundering. Think about it once and they were taking dead people’s belongings. Think about it twice and they were claiming the possessions of people who had been their neighbors just the other day.
People began exchanging glances. When the situation at hand clashed with their common sense, it was only natural to look around and gauge how everyone else was reacting.
Clap.
Flames blazed to life in the air once more. They began to dwindle ever so slowly, like an hourglass.
"Two hours. I’m giving you two hours. After that, our legion’s soldiers will claim everything left inside the houses."
The distinction between ownerless and occupied homes had already been clearly established. Legion soldiers were stationed in front of every empty house.
"First come, first served. However, anyone who uses this opportunity to target an occupied home will be punished."
I didn’t specify what kind of punishment. If anyone committed a crime, I’d intentionally kept the sentence hidden so I could make an example of them.
"Now then..."
Clap. I clapped my hands one more time.
"Go take what you can."
I plunged the humans into a crucible of desire.
