Chapter 182: Ch182: Surroundead

As the fireball was about to strike him, a thick stone wall erupted beside Daniel, blocking the incoming attack.

Meanwhile, Zane’s attention on Daniel caused him to lower his guard.

The centipede’s tail slammed into him, sending him skidding across the ground before crashing down with a heavy thud.

"Agh..."

Daniel staggered to his feet, one hand pressed against his forehead, still dazed from the explosion.

Behind him stood a man with no skin left on his face, only raw flesh and flowing blood. Flames flickered in his outstretched palm.

*Whoosh*

*Bz! Krak!*

Daniel gritted his teeth and met the incoming attack with a crackling spear of lightning.

The two attacks collided before he darted past the fake Zero, catching a glimpse of Helen battling the other clone.

...

Chaos spread across the battlefield, and their situation grew worse.

The centipede drove Zane back with an endless storm of claws and whipping strikes, leaving him no chance to counterattack.

Helen struggled to break through the fake Zero’s relentless barrage of flames, while Daniel remained pinned down by the other clone.

None of them could help the others.

If the fight continued this way, the monsters would wear them down one by one.

One mistake... that’s all it’ll take to kill us.

"Not good... I need to team up with Zane. But how?" Daniel muttered as he kept his eyes on his opponent.

Then an idea struck him.

He sprinted toward her.

"Helen! Can you buy me some time?" he shouted.

"I’ll try!" she answered.

Daniel began channeling a greater amount of lightning. Before he could finish, a stream of flames shot toward him, but a wall of water rose between them and blocked the attack.

From a distance, Daniel hurled the condensed lightning like a javelin.

*SWOOSH!*

The lightning spear pierced the centipede’s face, leaving a charred wound.

Zane seized the opportunity. Spikes burst from the ground beneath the creature while boulders rained down upon its head, forcing it back.

Meanwhile—

*BOOM!*

A fiery blast exploded in front of Helen, hurling her straight into Daniel.

Before either of them could recover, the two fireballs spiraled together, merging into a single blazing sphere before hurtling toward them.

For a brief moment, Daniel saw his life flash before his eyes.

Then a dome of water rose around them like a shield, absorbing the explosion.

Even so, Helen coughed up blood as the barrier shattered.

"Shit!"

Daniel shot to his feet and unleashed a barrage of lightning blasts at both attackers, buying Helen time to recover.

Just then, the two Zeros split apart.

One darted to the right, the other to the left, circling him like predators closing in on their prey.

For a while, Daniel kept them at bay with a relentless stream of lightning, forcing both attackers to dodge instead of advance.

But the pressure kept mounting.

The two slowly boxed him in from opposite sides.

Then, without warning, towering walls of fire erupted around him, cutting off his vision and making it impossible to predict where the next attack would come from.

Fuck, I can’t see. Damn it!

*Rumble*

Suddenly, a pillar of molten earth erupted beneath their feet and blasted both Daniel and Helen into the air.

Before they could crash to the ground, a massive sphere of water enveloped them, absorbing the impact before gently lowering them onto the forest floor.

Although they had somehow survived, the two fake Zeros began channeling their fire into a single, massive fireball, intending to vaporize them.

Meanwhile, Zane found himself cornered by the centipede’s relentless assault, fresh cuts covering both of his arms.

*BzZap!*

*BOOM!*

A bolt of lightning tore through the air and struck the two fake Zeros as they channeled the enormous fireball, disrupting their concentration and causing the unstable flames to explode.

Daniel narrowed his eyes and looked past the fake Zeros.

It was Bernard, arcs of lightning dancing across his outstretched palm.

One of the Zero turned toward Bernard, only for another flash of electricity to crash into it.

Daniel pushed himself to his feet, taking advantage of the opening. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand.

Helen lay unconscious on the ground.

Dust billowed across the battlefield as lightning and flames collided.

The tide of battle was beginning to turn.

Bernard’s attacks were fast and executed with practiced precision. Every time a fireball clashed with a bolt of lightning, another bolt followed before the fake Zero could even begin casting its next spell.

Daniel’s attacks were just as fierce and deadly, but his casting speed was no match. Each time he launched his third form of lightning, the other fake Zero had enough time to prepare and fire another attack.

However, the fake Zero fighting Daniel reacted a fraction too late. It twisted its body and narrowly dodged the lightning.

The bolt continued past it.

*BZZZT!*

It struck the other fake Zero from behind while it was locked in battle with Bernard, sending it flying and killing it on the spot before it even realized what had happened.

Black smoke rose from its body as it dissolved into countless wisps of darkness, vanishing into thin air without leaving a trace.

The moment its companion died, the final fake Zero’s appearance recovered in an instant. Flesh and skin spread across its exposed face, restoring it to normal, while its eyes glowed a deep crimson in the darkness of the forest.

The moon disappeared behind thick black clouds, casting the entire forest into darkness.

Daniel didn’t waste a second. A streak of lightning shot toward the glowing crimson eyes.

The fake Zero slipped aside with ease and charged straight at him, abandoning its flames as though it intended to tear him apart with its bare hands.

"Fuck... it’s hard to see him in the dark," Daniel cursed.

At the same time, Bernard fired another bolt of lightning. It struck the fake Zero, stunning it for a brief moment and slowing its advance.

The moonlight broke through the clouds once more.

Its claw-like nails were already inches from Daniel’s face.

I can’t dodge this...
